@@voids9360 It never as Hip Hop was influenced from Jamaican Dance Hall. So even hip hop is doesn't have American roots it is Afro Caribbean just like UK rap is.
@@rickyguthrie5532I think Hip-Hop comes from Dancehall and like 60s/70s soul/funk from the U.S. Since it literally started from scratching the instrumental parts from older songs. You could even go back to scat singing from Cab Calloway, Muhammad Ali's rhyming poetry delivery, or even Gil Scott Heron for influences on the vocal delivery. Grime is more so a subsidiary of Dance Hall and UK Garage music (evolved via the UK Dance music/hardcore continuum). The hip-hop influence is merely the fact that artist rap over a beat, however, the rap in Grime derives more closely from Dance Hall. IMO
@MisterZoe Yeah of course. It was a major influence on UK Garage music. Although as was, if not more so, UK Hardcore, Jungle and Drum'n'Bass < 3 genres which are authentically UK developed. Hence why I talk about the dance music continuum. I personally think the Chicago House influence was only a musical one and not entirely a cultural one.
spot on bruv.. even the way Grime MC's pass the mic is straight out of dancehall (via Jungle and Hardcore). if you listen to bits from back in the day and compare it to (US) hip hop from the same era you will see how different they are. Plus we had rappers in the UK directly influenced by US and they were on a very different wave from Jungle / Hardcore MC's
I suggest you read 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life' by Bill Brewster. The book provides great insight into nightclub culture in the UK and US. From this, I believe it will prove the authenticity of UK nightclub culture and furthermore UK Dance music culture. I have discovered first hand, Black people in the UK have created authentic scenes and culture. Afro-Americans started to build new cultures from the slave trade era, largely disconnected from their African roots. Over here, in the UK, significant cultures started developing from the Windrush Era. Don't forget, Bob Marley chose to move to London! Following that, Punk and Ska collaborated, again, significantly British cultures. Hybrids of dub were developed and celebrated here in the UK, following that we had Jungle and Drum & Bass. Ask the pioneers themselves, UK Garage (the underground sort at least) was birthed off the back of DJs playing Jungle and D&B 12"s at 33 instead of 45. Please don't get me wrong, the UK does borrow and develop culture initiated in the US, but ultimately it derives from the lifestyles we live and have chosen to express and explore in authentic ways.

they're pretty rude speaking louder and intercepting what Dave has to say after they even asked him for his opinion.
WOW Dave is killing it.
Grime is more so a subsidiary of Dance Hall and UK Garage music (evolved via the UK Dance music/hardcore continuum). The hip-hop influence is merely the fact that artist rap over a beat, however, the rap in Grime derives more closely from Dance Hall. IMO
Silas Gray we also can't forget that most of the first Grime MCs were originally Jungle MCs
Precisely!
spot on bruv.. even the way Grime MC's pass the mic is straight out of dancehall (via Jungle and Hardcore). if you listen to bits from back in the day and compare it to (US) hip hop from the same era you will see how different they are.
Dave doing bits, so proud.
Legit doing the UK proud Man like Santan Dave keep doing your thing man, you're gonna inspire the next generation the more wisdom you talking bro
UK slang is not that difficult if you've traveled a lot or just pay attention. If all you know is one thing it's probably hard to understand.
So true... Plus in this day and age we have genius so it's not exactly hard to do a little research?! 😂 👊
Very impressed with Santan Dave's maturity, especially with his deserved success at a young age. The American radio hosts seemed shocked that a British black londoner could come across so articulate with such wise words. Big up Santan Dave #moresuccess #morelife #LDN #🇬🇧

Hes been awake for 24 hours.

there was a time when i would have NEVER have imagined seing people from my country, let alone the ends blow up and take their craft world wide, do you guys know what its like to see people you know are talented and gifted just flourish and become who they were meant to be, its beautiful man, when i see people like skepta, AJ Tracey, Dave, Dizzie etc take it world wde when i have been listening and supporting from the very start of their career, it feels me pride and joy, im so proud of these brothers, but its only the start of their journey, they must stay humble and maintain it now
so far gone is drakes best project I've heard so far. Haven't listened to more life yet though. Dave is a wise young man btw.

Now wouldn't that be an amazing interview.... Maybe not though because he would probably speak about things they couldn't comprehend? 😂
He won't put up with the constant interruptions either
Hes so sweet he melts my heart bless him
Dave was so well spoken. If there's any artist representing the UK rap/grime scene, I want it to be him. The fact that he's just 18 means he's got so much more time to grow with the scene, he's gonna make it big.
Great, thanks Ebro and the team.....I literally learnt nothing about Dave from this conversation that I didn't already know...
I’m dying 😂😂😂😂😂💀💀💀
Dave is such a great artist. It's awesome that he has the amazing mind and the musical capabilities to really communicate his thoughts.
Santan Dave is just really British and doesn't find bad american humour funny. He just chilling
23:50 I'm very glad Dave touched on this subject, i'm British and i love Americans and the culture but dang some of y'all be acting like your god gift some specials type of people who are above the world and ish xD like forreal america isn't the number one at anything nore is anyone or country. all parts of the world have different things to offer!
Z6N3 big facts
the lady didn't ask much questions at all, but her reactions and face expressions to they are saying is priceless.
I consider grime as a subgenre of UK Garage personally
Drum n bass as well lol ultimately though it all comes from dancehall
And UK Garage and subgenre of US House?...
Dazzlr no it isn’t
Dave is very intelligent and almost wise beyond his years, he has the mentality to match his status and talent, i have a feeling he'll have a bright future and be remembered for a long time even after he retires...
They don't wanna hear any real talk, they just wanna condense and Americanise the truth he's trying to share!
facts, these ppl give the US a bad image, always sayin nothin but nonsensical bullshit
HOT 97 is trying with more variety of guests and new segments on the youtube. big up for featuring the UK artists
