Try wrapping it in plastic after you apply paint stripper, it keeps the stripper liquid for longer and rips straight through all the paint. Best little tip someone told me years ago, works so well.
Damn, you beat me to the punch. The build I'm working on now is going to be an "asmr" video but I'm hesitant to put that in the title. IDK. Excited to see your build finished. The attention to detail on this tank is incredible, something I need to work on myself.
Thanks man! I didn't film this with the intention of it being asmr but as I was editing I thought maybe the asmr crowd might enjoy it! I'm glad to have majority of the paint work done so the bike should come together pretty quick in the next month or two.
Thank you! There are two pins on the underside of the tank that secure it to the frame as well as sliders on the front. The brackets I cut off were mounts for side panels that come on the K100 that I will no longer be using.
I understand. Just a heads up, be careful with that method, I have read that those pins can potentially cause the tank to puncture in the event of a collision. Something to look into, better safe than sorry. Best of luck with the build.
Lovely color and finish. However 99 pct of all k rebuilds "fail" to remove the flange on the tank. Maybe a conscious choice, but it can be done and it looks 100 pct better...
I think people are scared to cut it because it’s so close to the welded seam of the tank. To me if you remove the side panels it is a must to remove it for aesthetics.
Don't forget that gasket. Looks amazing 👏
Thank you! I had the gasket on the underside of the cap :)
@@BayCityRestorations ahhh, sneaky sneaky, be safe
Cheers man!

Thanks for sharing! I will give that a try on the next one.
Scraping off the old paint looks so satisfying 🔥 great paint job bro
It was such a pain but watching it back through video was satisfying haha. It took me 3 days to get that tank completely stripped.
Beautiful paintwork.Lovely.

You're killing it buddy, can't believe how quick you're getting this built!
Thanks bro! It's been much easier the second time around.
Wow bro loving this new intro 🔥❤
I appreciate that! I hope to make it better as my editing skills progress
@@BayCityRestorations keep it up 👌🏼
Bravo... Jolie travail.
Thank you!
excellent work as always!!
Cheers! thank you!
looks great.
Thank you!
Such a satisfying transformation! Nice one dude 👌👏
Appreciate it buddy! What probably doesn't come across in the video was the fact that it took 3 days to strip that tank haha!
@@BayCityRestorations I remember your IG stories... What a pain in the butt!
Incrível, um dos vídeos mais satisfatórios que já vi! +1👏👏👍
Great video! How do you plan to secure the tank to the frame without the mounting brackets?

That kind of adhesive pad is always very messy to remove. How did you decide which Tabs to cut off? I really love the Blue, a superb finish.

What are you using at 10:13 when you’re smoothing the tank out? I’m worried I’m doing it too hard because I’m getting shavings of metal when doing it
it is a scotch pad that I am using. You could probably get away with 400 grit or high sand paper to smooth everything out.
@@BayCityRestorations thank you
Nice work men! What is the green pad around 10:19 to polish it up? I love the bare metal colour. Greets from the Netherlands
Thank you! It is just a scuff pad/scotch brite pad. It is good for cleaning the surface but not causing deep scratching in metals like aluminum.
What about cleaning from inside?
Inside was already cleaned and coated by previous owner so I did not have to worry about it.
hey man - what did you use to put the emblems back on?
I bought new ones that have fresh adhesive on the back. I put a link to where you can buy them in the description.
How many ounces of paint did you end up using on your tank do you know?
I bought a pint of the blue and used probably about half of it doing 3-4 coats on the tank.
@@BayCityRestorations thank you 👍
Where can buy custom gas cup
Kpartsholland
Why wouldn't it be possible to scrape off all the paint with a metal brush on a drill right away?
I guess you could but this is an aluminum tank. You would risk deeply scratching metal if you went too aggressive with metal brush.
I need a gas tank where do I get one

If Thom doesn’t have any listed on the website send him a message and he should be able to get you sorted out.
タンクのフランジ切り落としてるの偉い
フレームは切ってるのに、なぜかフランジはそのままの奴が多い
でも、もうちょっと綺麗に出来たんでは。
