In fact, this album came out 8 months earlier than Queen. Thanks for your reaction guys. I have a lot of weird bands that few people have heard of, but which are very interesting. Long live prog rock
I find it incredible that you haven’t heard of 10cc as they were massive at the time. I’ve heard music critics say they believe that Queen got their influence from 10cc. They had huge hits with songs such as Rubber Bullets, I’m Not In Love, Dreadlock Holiday & others.
10CC released this 6 months before Queen but whether this was an influence at all to Freddie is unclear. Queen did support 10CC at one point but I don’t think any direct connection has been admitted or claimed. I’m sure Freddie would have loved the song for its subject matter and production.
You're right, both 10cc and Queen were heavily influenced by the Beatles production techniques. I bought 10cc's albums from the start. When I first heard Bohemian Rhapsody I thought it was 10cc. There is a real annoying complication with 10cc, because the original art rock foursome split up after the fourth album and the other two continued on under the name 10cc, but for many people that later band was a lesser outfit than the innovative original line-up. On that same album you'll find "I'm Not In Love", which was the sound of that summer and has since become a piece of pop history. The backing harmonies were created by the band singing separate notes and literally creating a kind of instrument from the voices. (There is a UA-cam documentary about the song.) It's best to just listen to it to hear the effect. The song preceded Bohemian Rhapsody and was also around 6 minutes long. But those weren't the only songs of that length being released around that time. There was also John Miles "Music" and Eric Carmen's "All By Myself". I'm sure there were others too. I was also a Queen fan and was aware that while 10cc were busy breaking up, Freddie in particular was developing that genre of art pop. Of the two bands Queen moved beyond simple pastiche while 10cc never quite moved past that, with a few exceptions. Queen's early similar pastiche type songs include "Seaside Rendezvous" which is well worth a listen and is playful the way 10cc are playful. Thanks for listening to the Paris song. I hadn't heard it in years.
Being a teen in the seventies, I do know 10cc, a band from the UK. Their most recognizable song is probably "The Things We Do For Love" from about 1976. They sounded a lot like Queen which was one of their contemporaries in England. I hadn't thought about them since the seventies until this.
Hello there...... On the contrary ..... Queen sound is like 10CC. ...... Un nuit in Paris came before Bohemian Rapsody and yes ..... The foundations of rock opera is from the Beatles.
In their prime 10CC was a fragile business arrangement between two sets of songwriters (though in 1972-74 they intermingled a lot). The "pop" side - Gouldman & Stewart. The "art" side, the writers of this song - Godley & Creme. You can guess who had the more interesting post-1976 career. Where to turn if you want music with links to the Beatles and Hollies and Hermits, and where to turn if you ever imagined a more tasteful Mael Brothers, or a two-headed frankenstein fashioned from bits of B Wilson, F Zappa and D Fagan.
I am old......enough to remember their first chart single Donna, then the legendary Rubber Bullets, which seemed every time you walked past a house with an open window, or a car passed with an open window, Rubber Bullets was on the radio. And this great song. Amazing band.
Mercurial von Frederico cited this song as an inspiration for Bohemian Rhapsody. As far as a theatrical production/play in music ? This is far superior than Queen's attempt. Une Nuit à Paris is brilliant !!🚬😎 10cc was named by their original manager, Jonathan King. Supposedly 7 or 8cc is the average amount of a male ejaculation. To impose more virility ? 10cc !! Of course, right ? Now it all makes sense, lol....🚬😎
Queen was 10cc’s support band in Liverpool november 1974. 10cc was massive and Queen was struggling with their creative direction. As you could see in the movie . Both super bands! Queen and 10cc. I preferred 10cc. More intelligent music. What a time the seventies with all these great bands.
The 1970s. A decade where creative musicians used minimal equipment to great effect to create classic music. The 2020s. A decade where fly-by-night pop starts use so much technology (i.e. fucking auto-tune) to create absolutely nothing special at all, in any way whatsoever.
10cc played this live on stage and Mercury heard it. They both toured the same shows during these days. Listen to Somewhere in Holywood from 1974. Also typical 10cc.
5 to 8 months between 10ccs and Queens. I think it did influence Bohemian Rhapsody, though to say it was a rip off would be a gross overstatement. And of course The Beatles are there - how could they not. Even Simon and Garfunkel. The only way you can be forgiven for not knowing of 10CC is to make sure you appraise yourself of the rest of their work.
I've listened to this since I was 6 years old and I've never picked up on the policeman being shot. Here's a theory lol. Bohemian Rhapsody is a very fine part two to this tune 🤔
this album with Une Nuit and I'm Not in Love came out 6-8 months before Bohemian Rhapsody. Love 10cc - it's too bad there were only 4 years of them all together as a band. They were masters in the studio and it really helped that they had their own studio, Strawberry Studios (North) in Stockport and Strawberry Studios (South) in Dorking (named after Strawberry Fields Forever), with most of their records engineered by Eric Stewart. ‘I’m Not in Love’ (which you MUST do ua-cam.com/video/3oxe4mlsQos/v-deo.html) the 2nd song following ‘Une Nuit a Paris’ off ‘The Original Soundtrack” was voted best single of all time in the UK at the time. Of course Bohemian Rhapsody came out 6-8 months later the same year. They recorded this with analog tape. No digital recording or effects back them. They basically recorded a separate loop of tape for each chromatic voice note and ran them through different channels of the board and turned a giant mixing desk into the world's biggest Mellotron. So badass and inventive. Another cool fact -- the vocal loops on 'I'm Not in Love' are all being fed into a huge mixing board. And each note (and remember 16 vocals doing a single note) is going to its own channel. For example channel 12 was an A, channel 13 was a B, channel 14 was a C and so on. During mix down, some one was "playing the faders" on the mixing board like they were different notes on a keyboard. So "bah-bah-bah-baaaahhhhhhh" was someone quickly sliding up the correct faders at the right time and quickly back down, to create those vocal riffs. Also for most of the song, all of the loop faders were brought up to a constant low level to give that droning angelic long "baaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh" sound. There is a great Making Of video available on UA-cam. Well worth finding!
10CC were brilliant. Probably more famous for "I'm Not In Love". Their name comes from the volume of male ejaculation. Loved your reaction & I'm subscribing in case you do more 10CC. :-)
@@WelpHereWeAreOnUA-camthe problem was. They had no image. They were not a brand. They were all about music! Every hit was different. You could not recognize 10cc as Queen did with a frontmen. That is why many don’t know 10cc. But as soon you do…. They are the seventies Beatles….amazing!
relatively unknown band??????? I hope that isn't serious? 10CC was a well known band during the 70's with several number 1 hits. But yes, you are correct about the beatles. The members had the following saying: without John Lennon, no Beatles. Without the Beatles no 10CC.
Are you from the UK or the US? 10cc was massive in the UK. Here in the US, except for their cult following, they're only known for "I'm Not in Love" and "The Things We Do For Love." Such a shame, but that's the way it is over here. The UK radio charts were much more interesting than ours.

Magnificent track from a brilliant band.

One of my favorite bands
All four are amazing singers.
With some truly epic somgs.

Prefer 10cc to Freddy and the Drama Queens. 4 brilliant composers, vocalists and musicians. Full of wit and surprises.
Check out L by Godley and Creme from 10cc. It will chock you.
I bought the album the same year it came out, it's brilliant, moving and funny all at the same time.

Yes. If memory serves me well, Queen were until Bohemian Rhapsody, very teeny boppy (could be wrong) and the sudden change in style shocked somewhat.
The 1970s. A decade where creative musicians used minimal equipment to great effect to create classic music. The 2020s. A decade where fly-by-night pop starts use so much technology (i.e. fucking auto-tune) to create absolutely nothing special at all, in any way whatsoever.

8 months is enough time to copy a song...😲
10cc is a unique artrock band with 4 multi instrumentalists, singers ánd composers. Listen to there second album ‘Sheet Music’. It’s fantastic!
Great album.. They were the "Worst Band in the World" but didn't give a shit. LOL
Have you ever heard of Alan Parsons?…. Good lord am I that old?😞😆
Orgin of the name 10cc is the average of repreductive fluid in a male which is: ten cc's...good to know

Don't you no Dreadlock holiday, that is such a famous song of them
10CC are known as an art rock band...... this is probably the most bizarre section of their repertoire ...... more interesting than great
Other brilliantly freaky 10cc album tracks include : iceberg, baron samedi, hotel, hospital song and i wanna rule the world.
Love the band in their original line-up! 10cc is supposed to be the average amount of semen from an ejaculation...
Amazing how you don’t know anything about 10cc 😂
I could ask 100 people and they’d know nothing too. Not that crazy
