aaaaawwwwww, Sammy telling Arsenio he'd be there for him.....OMG, how sweet and moving❤️💋❤️! Looked like Arsenio was about to cry, and so was I!
A true entertainer. He’s still one of my favorite singers. Rest In Peace, dear Sammy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Jesus! When he got up and walked over with ALL his talent and experience and sang that song with the band did Anyone else???? have tears in their eyes? I'm 65 so really have been around and knew SD Jr was a major talent but this guy was at the top of his game! PS: Can you imagine the band went home floating on air--WE played for SD Jr tonight!
Wow, just to think he was suffering from throat cancer at the time. Genius! Rest in praise Sammy!
@rudy2fat He passed in May 1990, so this has to be 89. His battle with cancer from diagnosis to death was for 9 months.
This is probably during initial symptoms, before diagnosis. Always sucks looking back on stuff like this. @@thecjb2003
This Man's Voice Is: PASSION, DEPTH, HEART, CONVICTION, AND REVERENCE. "He Will ALWAYS Have My Standing Ovation!" What A GREAT* Mr. SAMMY DAVIS JR. XOXOXOXOXO!!!!
I seriously believe that Arsenio wanted to cry during this interview.
Matasha Lee Arsenio did seem touched by Mr. Davis' praise - and rightfully so
Who wouldn't. Sammy's sincerity was felt. Hell that would make anyone what to cry. Sammy was a class act hands down.
Tears of joy..😂😭thanks Sammy ! The band was great too.
About time y'all got y'all lazy butts up, you should of gave him a standing ovation when he first came out, he's a LEGEND
A beautiful human being. His talent and work are unparalleled, through the pain and ridicule people have to suffer through he took the high road and gave us all the love he had and we will never ever see the likes of this again!!
You're absolutely right when royalty like Sammy enters the room YOU stand up and show your respect!
One of the greatest entertainers to ever live! R.I.P., Sammy!
Damn he promised Arsenio that he would be back but died a year later 😢😢😢
I'm glad we have a record of Sammy Davis Jr.'s talent or the world would scarce believe a man of such talent and grace ever lived.
Stuff like this leaves me at a loss for words. Amazing!
Even in the face of all those setbacks in life and all that struggle and all that success, Sammy stayed humble, happy and appreciative of what he had. That's a rare talent all in itself.
Legend. Plain and simple.
Sammy Davis Jr. was an entertainment master! A gifted singer, dancer, actor and musician. And at age 63 he was doing some "A-plus" crooning!
So talented, so gracious, so polite, so moving - they don't make 'em like this anymore. A true show biz legend RIP.
I miss him so he had a beautiful soul for the hard times he went through.
Sammy was a class act and an amazing talent and entertainer up to the end. He was the gold standard.
Don't we all, But his time will come again. This life is truly a testing ground. Wow. I'm listening to Lou Rawls sing IF I COULDA WOULDA SHOULDA and it's just fabulous. And really describes LIFE.
the60sKid you took the words right out of my mouth. couldn't agree more. may he rest in peace.
So much respect, So much love. Sammy Davis is to be honored and respected for ever.
Thank you for posting these! What a treasure!!!!! I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to see him perform live twice in my lifetime....He had more talent in that little body than most alleged "entertainers" have in their toes!!!!
🥇🥇🥇 Sammy Davis Jr 🥇🥇🥇
He's been gone from us for 32 years but obviously will never be forgotten. What a man. He did it all. He handled life's ups and downs with class, style, and humour in such a way that he made you feel grateful to be alive and around that. That is a rare ability found in only the top performers.
As Jessie Jackson said at his funeral service, there will never be another Sammy Davis Jr. cuz there NEVER was one before. Godspeed Sam !
I can never watch this video only once!
This was beautiful to see. I remember watching it live. Sammy was so spiritual and giving.
Wow! There are these talents and those talents. And then there's Sammy Davis Jr. No-one else even comes close.
MsG

Arsenio on Howard Stern made me look for this. Man I teared up watching this. A true legend and gentleman.
I really don't know what to say here in 2022, but in 3022 this clip will still be incredible. Hail Mr. Sammy.
He was a great performer. He was performing on stage since he was very young. I love his impressions of the greats and his thoughtful interpretations of ANY song he ever sang!!
Ever the consummate professional, the entertainer, the magnificent. I sure do miss the most talented of the Rat Pack, the most brilliant entertainer of a long gone era. Sammy Davis Jr.
This was fantastic! I have such a huge admiration for the great man and artist Sammy Davis Jr was...
Talent pure talent.
Arsenio never gets enough credit for documenting the history of African American classical music and talent. In this Arsenio has few equals and no superiors.
There isn't anyone cooler than Sammy. First time seeing this. It was so real.
A pleasant surprise, excellent impromptu performance! Classy professional and smooth
All Class!
That guy, Mr Sammy Davis Jr had some class 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Wow. What a man. What a great, great soul. Thank you for sharing this, Joe Wellington. Thank you Sammy.
Fantastic his voice sense of humour his smile beautiful love him .. Sammy ♥️🙏 2022..
Born 8 Dec 1925, and being 63 as he said he was, makes the year either late 1988 or 1989. Wow, these days I remember full well. Going down to Memphis, then San Diego, El Paso and the Frisco Bay. As he pointed out society in the 1950s wasn´t ready for mingling of people. Today it´s possible to an extent not to be even dreamed of then.
So much to love about Sammy. I grew up in the 60’s and my dad was a musician and I was lucky enough to appreciate the standards and people like Sammy.
@JoeWellington.....Thank you so much for posting this classic episode , (1-3), of Sammy in it's entirety!!!
What a talent he was.....So dearly missed.
very heartwarming! love you Sammy! sleep well..
Awesome interview with a great man. Thanks for sharing.
The Master in the House!!
A rare "Magic Moment" in time.

Love him miss him ... Sammy this guy right here . ✊🏾❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Same here. He died a year before I was born. What bad timing on both mine and his part.
Still I can see the vids of him and still appreciate his incredible talent.
That was a true artist. He was jonzin' to hit the stage like he was fiending for drugs. No money involved. That's the best kinda artist. He was a legend, man. Stone Cold Legend. God bless him.
I did, in fact, shed a tear. Shout out to Sammy Davis Jr. 👍
Sammy Davis Jr was SHOWBIZ ROYALTY!!
He could still belt it out.
I just feel blessed to have lived in the era of Sammy Davis Jr. What a blessing he was to this planet. What joy he brought to millions during his time on earth when it wasn't easy to do so. He pushed through and got it done.
Pound for pound , the best ever , what a talented man !
THE GREAT SAMMY DAVIS.........WAS A JAZZ SINGER.....FIRST AND FOREMOST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed seeing this. A real class act no doubt.
The House Band after the song: dude we just played with Sammy Davis jr. Wtf!
this interview was only about a year before Sam died. Prophetic words indeed.
I worked at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles back in the early eighties. I was a Medical Transporter in the Comprehensive Cancer Center. They called me to the station and send me to one of the Doctor's office. When i went to the Doc's Office. There he was. Mr. Sammy Davis Jr. He was in his final months of his life. I sat him carefully (as with any other patient sincerely)...I was a mere 20 something years old guy. As I took him and his wife to their car, I remember well he gave me a $5 Tip telling me...."Here Kid" for a sandwich. He seemed and looked very tired and I remember saying a silent prayer for him. 2 or 3 months later he would die. That day this very humble man showed that sparkle in his eyes tired of feeling pain and physically weak due to cancer. Still he was this noble soul within a broken body. A class act even with cancer upon him.
Sammy was amazing . I wonder if he and the band had even met prior to this song. All amazing musicians . What a treat for the audience .
I was a boy when I first saw this and loved it like you wouldn't believe. When I was in High School I had this on video and played this episode out. I used "Time after Time" as my all-state audition.
Class....Class....Talent....Talent..Show-business....The Top!!!!
Lovely.
ThANKHS for this!
he was u p there with the greatest of the greats in showbiz but yet so humble here with arsenio. thats a great personality

first time i hear him sing,,im hooked!!
Did Sammy Davis Jr. ever come back to the show as he promised
(at 6:35)? He died about a year later on May 1990. Excellent all-around entertainer. RIP
Arsenio was a jerk and his show was cancelled after only one year on the air.
@@busterbiloxi3833 not even close arsenals show lasted for 6 successful seasons and years and arsenio himself chose to leave show business to focus on his family
@@AladeenMusic His show barely lasted a year and his career has gone nowhere ever since.
I have to say I'm really not very familiar with Sammy's work, but I keep re-watching this because of his warmth and soulful grace.
Iconic sammy Davis jr.
What a great and talented & caring and respectful & sentimental & loving man Sammy was 😊👍
I heard Arsenio on Howard Stern talking about this. I remember it from when I was a kid but I had to watch it again. Sammy was the coolest of all the cats man.
Gives me the chills. How great is that.
My God... what a class act!💛

Thanks for posting 🙋👏👏👏!
Now that was perfect. Sammy was that equal, personal idol of mines. Rip great one yell
My quick Google shows that this was in 1989? He passed pretty much shortly after huh? Man, what an interesting guy and what an incredible talent. Will be interesting to see how this new Hulu series that is in plans comes out about his life. I kind of want to read the book it's based on before I see how they adapt it for a film. Books often have so much more richness and detail. Rip Sammy.
Great video, wonderful sketch
Greatness... Hopefully never forgotten
WOW! Thanks for posting!
Sammy would pass on within a year after this interview. A true gentleman, you can feel his love and energy through the computer screen. RIP Sammy
Sad man very sad😢
