Watching you use state of the art technology to make the things that craftsmen made 100 years ago makes me admire those builders so much more.
I was thinking the same thing.
Woodworking is becoming a lost art. The new tools may help keep it alive. Talent and tools!
Dan has really streamlined the process of preparing the timber, he has tremendous skill in everything he puts his hand to

Your doing amazing job 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I don’t think I’ve seen so many people so excited about a roofing job. 😉❤️
@@CenturyHomeProject Because we aren't paying for it.

The building, the filming, the editing, the knowledge & skill....Absolutely phenomenal 👏 🥇🏆
I think you and Billy Petherick are single-handedly keeping the French lumber industry in business!
Don't forget that church in Paris. It used a lot of wood, too.

AGREED!!! Love both channels to bits!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! For putting me onto his channel! I was reading the comments and saw you mention his name and I thought "You know what, Im going to google that name in the hopes of coming up with more content like this channel" And boy... am I glad I did lol. Ive just spent the last 5 hours binging Billys videos. I went down a rabbit hole I couldnt escape from... and I loved every second of it :) so thank you ONCE AGAIN!!
It is absolutely incredible that you’re doing this A frame by yourself thus far. Very impressive.
I walked through Pompeii last week and could not help but think this could be Dan’s next project.
Fantastic to see the tools delivered by Axminster tools in action!
Having the right tools makes a huge difference.
Hooray for sponsorships!
I am impressed that he has integrated so many new tools into his work process. He is very clever!
I just watched a Batman movie and I’m reminded of one Joker comment “where does he get all those wonderful toys?”
What type of tool is that that is making the tenons?
Especially when one knows how to use them ... I watch to learn how to do stuff...
The second best part of a new video from Dan is reading the comments from around the world! Truly amazing

Good morning from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
Good morning from Canada!
You make this 84 year old great great grandmother’s day. Watching from the Central Coast in New South Wales, Australia🦘🇦🇺🦘🇦🇺
Great day to you!!! from Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸 peace ✌ out my friend
In a sentence: it has been an amazing journey watching Dan gain master-level proficiency in woodworking.
I think that today's video cinched the final step: wearing safety glasses.
I love that you are doing actual timberframing on it not just doing modern construction.
Your catalog of tools and your mastery of using them is astonishing. To think back to when you started and what you had to work with, while still creating amazing things…. Just WOW!
When I first started watching your videos I thought you were crazy for trying to restore such a derelict, old building, but I'm now happy to say you've been slowly proving me wrong.
When I watched him in the garden at La Lande and restoring his little house I knew he was up for this. It just takes a bit longer!
Slowly?? 😂
With your natural ability to 'see ahead' and figure things out, combined with some great tools, you are a one man wonder Dan! I love it that you're not a bragger, just one heck of a worker!
Nice to see you wearing the safety glasses. Nick must be would be so proud. 😇
Well done Dan and a HUGE thank you to AXMINISTER for sponsoring you with the magnificent Machinery and the right tools. Sure has made the rebuild so much faster! Amazed by your progress! Well done from New Zealand 🇳🇿 👏🏻👍🏻
Peace ✌ out my friend, from Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸
You are very fortunate that Axminster are supplying you with all those excellent tools. That chain mortiser is a real time saver
Watching a Mansard Roof being built from the inside to the outside is fascinating! Thx! 👏🏻☺️✌️🐾🐾🌻🇱🇷
"How wrong can they be?" A question I never ask myself. I'm always afraid "they'll" show me precisely how. 🙂 Awesome work Dan.
I seriously can not believe how fast you have gotten things going in the last few months. It’s like you put your foot on the starting line, and just took a step and are almost at the end. Remarkably. You alone and with your friends have gotten so far. Congratulations! You’re almost there.❤
You are a bright young man, Dan. You have learned so much in the past two years. It is amazing. Your work ethic is amazing too. You can be very proud of yourself as you continue on. You certainly have a huge cheering section. Please be careful, we all worry about you.
well, there is still a fair bit more to do...
I truly admire your capacity for work and ingenuity well done! Godfrey Australia 😊
better he slow down, otherwise he soon has nothing to do.
His work rate is amazing

You’re a genius !!!! It’s amazing to see how quickly you’re moving with the second mansard. A M A Z I N G !!!
Kirsch chisels from Germany are just the best you can get. Great tool choice, I’ve been working with them for years.
Waiting for next episode every day. A year long fan from the Netherlands . So inspiring!
I have been to your lovely country. Such wonderful memories. From Florida, have a very happy day!
Honestly, you make this precision cut work look like childs play. Wonderful tools and your carpentry skills are spot on. Carrry on..
My day is not complete without these videos
The red handcrank lift should be placed somewhere in the garden as an ornament and a testament to this project
With a little plaque of appreciation, like a shrine for its valuable service 🫡
Or, the entry hall

Toronto says hello to all and especially to Dan.
Hey back to ya from Florida!
Hi from Hanover Ontario 👋
Wow Dan you are going to have that roof done before the cold weather! Maybe not totally done but at least waterproof! You make “impossible”dreamers proud! Good on you!
He is looking for a forever chateau for his kids and maybe for his grandchildren. He doesn’t have to deal with molds. Thumbs up for his crating
Can't believe how quickly you are building this roof all by yourself. Rock on Dan.
It's so great to have the equipment to make the cuts in the wood easier.
How you've mastered all the tools and can just throw up a mansard roof is just astonishing. You're clever!!
Never like to miss an episode.
Dan, you just tell those bits they'd best fit! There's over half a million folks watching them.
Missing your mates. Nic who looks like he should be in a bike movie and Brian who should be the next James bond. Keep up the great work
Good evening from Ulm, Germany.
It's not A frame day. It's THE frame day!
Great evening from Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸, peace ✌ out my friend

Isny im Allgäu also says hello . When I watch him I think to myself wy is there not one single German doing this ?
Greetings from Illertissen!
The sound of the machinery is all you need, the sound of progress 😊
Do not forget the smell of cut wood❤
It is so cool that it all being dried in is coming into view!! It will be a HUGE milestone. Working in the dry. What a concept!😃
Having watched entire build of the first roof, and witnessing just how quickly this part is coming along, I can only admire how much having amazing tools and previous experience means.
No radio needed with the song of the birds
Do you remember the video where the bird was singing through the whole episode. I forgot what Dan said about it. It sounds like the same bird! Lol
All the best tools, finally. My man Dan is going crazy right now! Love to see how far you've come in appreciating high quality woodworking tools and being able to do such great work with them.
The Festool sponsorship sure doesn't hurt either..
I would say the lack of experience shows. Using dominos for a structural element is pretty dodgy.
@@BunkerMentality Depends on the direction of load, I'd say. Can't remember what he used them for specifically, but I think it was just something to help align a standing post?
@@capslock9031He didn’t actually install them in the video, so it’s hard to be certain, but it appears they’re used on the joint between the studs and the top plate for the wall that supports the kink of the mansard. Not under any shear load in normal circumstances, but tbh, they’re either under no load and are therefore pointless, or they’re under load and are therefore not strong enough.
Remember, this is the guy who mortared steel beams to the tops of the walls for no apparent reason. No additional fixings and not even attached to each other.
@@capslock9031I take my previous comment back. The new video shows that he’s used them in the top of the upright supporting the A frame. This will be subject to a shear force as the weight of the roof will be loading down and outwards at that point.
I get that the amount of work he’s doing is impressive, but he is also half-arsing so much of this. Having a load of expensive new tools hasn’t changed that.
Those tools have made an astounding difference
Love the simplicity of the wedges to hold down the beam. Genius
Dear Dan! You are so full of passion and desire to work on this project, but don't forget the most important thing: to protect your body, eyes, ears from injuries. .You are a talented and smart man, take care of yourself to complete this wonderful project successfully. On behalf of your hundreds of thousands of devotees and admirers..
You have gotten to be a real pro with the complicated roof. And good tools make all the difference.
Another great day for Dan and for us viewers! He's just rollin' along on the build!
Good morning Dan from Tasmania Australia. I admire your skills to be able to know how to use all those fancy tools. You go from strength to strength and get things done with enthusiasm and confidence. I applaud your tenacity. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!

Love where Dan is deftly and repeatedly getting more swing happening to lift the wood hanging in the stairwell. Yesterday he nearly flipped but today he’s mastered it 😁
