What a great era for small sedans, 2002, alfa, 510, rx3. i still own a 2002 and owned an rx3, both great cars. My buddies owned a 510 and celica gt. Those were fun days.
Putting my 70s IMSA BMW 2002 back together right now. These videos help motivate me through the long hours wrenching in the shop. Hoping to bring it out west to Laguna and other tracks where it was run back in the day!
I had the AFX version of that 510 , I also had a puke green 71' 510 that I took the B&W automatic out of and put a 2000 cc pickup engine into. With a 4 spd but left the rear end gears from the automatic which made it extra fast
im so wrapped that adam corolla gets to race cars and the ones he loves. his story of being super poor and now the results of his constant hard work is there for him to enjoy
Troy worked on my 68 1600 for a very short time before I told him to stop, body work is not Troy, Datsun yes, BMW no.... Though I speculate Datsun also, but then again, I guess they all blow up, but when you only see a 510 once in a great while, and this one had a blown engine Troy! No harm black flag respect the guy either way....

Old post but even 8 years later in 2022. You can still find them out and about. I personally know of 4 or 5 currently for sale under 10k I own a 2 dr and a wagon both 69. Owned the 2dr forever first of many 510s. Got the wagon last year for $2500 off fb guy selling it was moving out of state and just wanted to see it got a good home. Idk but if tony wanted bad enough then he could or already has one come on It’s been 8 years now. I’ll point you in the right direction of a few if needed.
Nope. 6 is a light dab on the brakes, maybe a gear depending on the car, little pitch into the corner and HARD on the throttle. There's a dip at the apex that settles the car and shoots you up the straight. He's missing all that and turning the car through 7 instead of straightening it.
Come on, Adam, when, oh when, will you run an 1800 instead of that 1600. ;;;;;you would get the hill-climbing ability to match the two-liter BMW,s without the too-tall deck of the 2.0 Datsun engine, which is great on torque, but you would not get the RPM,s which I give you props for, keep it between 5,000 and 7,500 in third gear, and you should be able to beat anything. You have a 610 parked right next to your 510, find a donor car, a 1974 710, then you can use a cannon four-into-one 45mm weber single dual side-draft carb, it will clear your brake booster, and is legal, as it is not a split manifold under sanctioning rules. Best of all, no carb syncing issues, and a smooth idle. I would think the J-spec closed chamber head, and the SSS camshaft would also be legal. You can do it Adam! The rear end in those Beemers? Rare, 1968 model 1602 factory limited slip, 4/11 gears. I had one, and ran the stock 1600, just to stay original, it must have been one of the first of the body-style ever sold. I also bought an old racing 510 with actual documented racing history, and it was a 1968 model, they only imported a four door that year, and the windshield wipers swing in, and meet in the middle. It was as close to a Works car as possible, it was never even registered off the boat, it spent it's entire life on the track. it ran a tube frame, and had 12 inch wide slicks on it, and box-fender-flares. Maybe I should have kept it, huh?

Love Datsun's...... nice to see them racing again.
there use to be a dip there. the first time i drove there it was pretty big but after the big motogp renovation it was pretty much smoothed out
I LOVE DATSUN'S!!!!! Please post more!!!!
Adam, you've got to figure out how to carry more speed through 6. You're giving up a lot of momentum there. Loving this video!

@adamcarollascarcast. What carbs. you running? Webers, solex, mikunis or dellortos? Beautiful 510 by the way!
Nice driving Ace!
if he did it would probably equal them out. that yellow 510 definately has a few more ponies but its only advantage was in that climb

Perlumbaan yang sebenar..perlumbaan yang penuh keiklasan ketulusan dihati..
Could not agree more. WAY slow through 6 and WAY late on the throttle too. It ain't the gearing or power...it's the nut behind the wheel.
I so envy you adam, cannot find a 510 to save my life
tonyrocks951 me too! Sold my 69 510 about 20 years ago and regret it every day....

could just be the gearing. that climb is really steep
Thanks. I am recovering from a grand Mal Stroke..watyPOV video makes my left hand, currently paralyzed, well, it moves!
id like to see adam drive at buttonwillow or thunderhill

I love the videos, but can you PLEASE get the color sorted out on these and quit interlacing shit. These videos could so easily look much much better.

I don't agree with today's car much more lighter??? unless you have a all lotus race.
