One of my best friends posted this song the night before he died. It was almost as if he'd found the perfect song to relay his message of what was going on in his head. Even this video gives me a sense of anxiety that only he brought me. The good kind. Rest easy Mercury Griffin
i listened to her CD for a week straight while sleeping in a tent in my friends living room in montreal while being totally lovesick and it was the most beautiful thing that has ever happened
"You wanna try something else for us?" "Mh Mmm. I'd rather play this." THAT IS THE FREAKING SPIRIT. Don't let anyone sidetrack you from your path. She was like, "Nah uh, I'm gonna play this freaking song even if I screw up a few times or a lot. You can leave if you want, but I'll still be here getting this song right." Hake yeah!
She's definitely a very gifted musician. People like her get neglected by the music industry because their music is not as marketable, but it's not always the marketable music that is necessarily the best; although, I do know some radio artists who are really good, but on a general scale, 80% of the radio bands or artists today have little or no musical skill. She ought to attempt classical guitar because she would be very good at it.
That fact that she wrote the song, and she has trouble playing it makes learning to play it much harder. I love her guitar. And her voice. My god. She has the prettiest voice
One of the world's top acoustic players playing to no one! The world just goes by: probably what make this vid so good. She's got her own signature series Ovation 1581, that might be the guitar used.
great vid.... immediately reminded me of Joni Mitchell's "For Free" where people just walked past the performer , completely obvious to the musical magic. Don't know the open tuning but love it !
this is definitely one of her best songs, but I also love "Jessica" and "Pull Me Out Alive" as far as vocals go. But her instrumental songs are purely outstanding- "Bone Chaos in the Castle" is great and "Magazine" blows my mind. I can't get enough of "Gay Sons of Lesbian Mothers" either. I could go on forever... haha.
People criticize the strangest things when it is just sound to your ears and sight to your eyes. All of sudden, you are judging as though you were there. Then turn it around and say something nice.
Love it! So natural. She had me in stitches when she was fucking it up @the beginning, I know the feeling, you're going to get it, if it's the last thing you'll do. I know she's come out here so many times, but I've only jsut found her music, so, PLEASE Miss King, come back to OX OZ even :) Andria
the tuning is drop A - e a c g a e it's just barre chords for the recording. for this she throws in some more layered minors and stuff that i can't figure out. hope it helps.
she does alot of tunnings. Check out some of her oldest stuff when it was just her and a guiter. Everybody Loves You. and then love it. That carmine st. song and Happy As A Dead Pig In The Sunshine are my favorite. Andy Mckey is a good one if you like her too.
hah the beginning is hilarious but I love this song, I can't believe the people that are just walking by, I would probably stand there drooling if I saw Kaki King playing an a park :D
i must admit that she doesn't have the strongest voice, but it's hard not to fall in love with this song because the chords are SOOOO nice. so beautiful, great job!
i read somewhere that with dreaming of revenge, she's trying to veer away from the "solo instrumental musician" vibe a bit so if you search for it, you'll find that when playing live she's collaborated with a backing band at some shows. and she's played with tegan & sara an foo fighters live. but yes, it doesn't seem like she has a permamanent backing band. but i like it that way though - no overshadowing of her playing and she's free to collaborate. and she's an amazing drummer too!
@Stanfordcounty i used to think playing songs with this guitar style were impossible to play, but you just need to get the tuning down and it isn't so bad
Pretty sure she played at a pub not far from my house when she was in Sydney, unfortunately i wasnt into her at the time so didnt bother going...rueing it now i am...
@millerdakiller amen ta that shit man...culdnt agree more...breaks my heart every day cuz so many folks jus simply do not fekn get it...but thank lil goodness there are stil sum of us round that apreciate real talent n art...n that it aint bout titties n sneakers n such..
She has a ton of good songs, though I think I like her earlier stuff better; especially her second album Legs to Make Us Longer. There's not a single song on that album that I don't love, besides Can the Gwot Save us. XD It's all instrumental though.

I've watched this about a billion times and it still cracks me up everytime she says 'Shit.' :'D
She is the reason I switched from learning rock on guitar to learning fingerstyle.
Thank you Kaki.
This is so hillarious. Also my favorite songs by her :)

ive listened to this like 500 times today
i can't believe no one even stops to watch her. i would be in total awe if i were one of those people. damn, she has great music
I like how she refuses to play another song after she messes up and then just fucking nails it

lol, you are right is great, and lucky you for gettting to see her!
"i just can't shit" and "i just can't stay till your fuck" are my favourite lines although somewhat strange bed fellows to the air of the song

Played by an uber talented musician!
Haha. Kaki is amazing.
@silverbeatle130 No matter how much you practice the song you will always make mistakes, Its called being human.
Love it!
So natural.
She had me in stitches when she was fucking it up @the beginning,
I know the feeling, you're going to get it, if it's the last thing you'll do.

Sounds awesome acoustic.
the tuning is drop A - e a c g a e
it's just barre chords for the recording. for this she throws in some more layered minors and stuff that i can't figure out.
hope it helps.
Sounds good! Real good. She sounds kind is like Lacey Mosley from Flyleaf. I like her voice.
she does alot of tunnings. Check out some of her oldest stuff when it was just her and a guiter. Everybody Loves You. and then love it. That carmine st. song and Happy As A Dead Pig In The Sunshine are my favorite. Andy Mckey is a good one if you like her too.
this is so f-ing good!! my ears are dancing on the table
Beautiful indeed ...song and the singer ...heheheh
Unique.
UGH. I love her. Want.
No words to describe the amazing talent kaki king has. I think the tuning is (from high to low) E-A-G-D-A-dropA, if anyone is interested.
hah the beginning is hilarious but I love this song, I can't believe the people that are just walking by, I would probably stand there drooling if I saw Kaki King playing an a park :D
me encanta su frescura y su manera de interpretar, errar es humano y asi uno siente q el musico le pertenece.hermosa!!
I'd love to see this song done as a duet with Paddy McAloon. Brilliant stuff.
I love her. that is all.
@Gunnerss09 I think it might be open A Minor 7th. It's such a jazzy song, so good.
i must admit that she doesn't have the strongest voice, but it's hard not to fall in love with this song because the chords are SOOOO nice. so beautiful, great job!

Lol funny to see that even Kaki Fucks up from time to time :)
See this woman live you wont regret it.
@legnaleama it is an Ovation guitar. You should find her precise model on their site ;)
I just can't... Shit
LOL!
she still rocks
why yes i am. thank you.
was this song in a movie? sounds so familar? beautful song, harmonic melodies are her specialties.
hmmm her guitar tuning is very very interesting ... i wonder what it is. beautiful.
I love the face she makes at 1:37. She's so CUTE~

On the Album it is AACGAE but I believe she's a full step up here.
"shit.. fuck... sorry I didn't practise it"
she's so lovely. [2]
Pretty sure she played at a pub not far from my house when she was in Sydney, unfortunately i wasnt into her at the time so didnt bother going...rueing it now i am...
I actually really enjoy "Pull Me Out Alive" and "Yellocake". As for the purely instrumental stuff, try out "Playing with Pink Noise".
Every time I see her she gets hotter. It's cute when she messes up.
She's so goddamn TALENTED!
Her songs are so raw. Full of emotion.
everyone has an appointment at NOWHERE's office and they're late
@millerdakiller amen ta that shit man...culdnt agree more...breaks my heart every day cuz so many folks jus simply do not fekn get it...but thank lil goodness there are stil sum of us round that apreciate real talent n art...n that it aint bout titties n sneakers n such..
hot damn that's some pretty guitar
"shit.. fuck... sorry I didn't practise it"
she's so lovely.
if i loose my fait in humanity would be because of war, not because a stupid (fantastic) video of miss Kaki King
she is excentric, and a truly character, maybe a genius just like kurt cobain
I pass Hyde Park everyday, why the hell can't she be there too! --
@4rescue U hate, cuz that's what you do. But u got a point when u said she's awesome no matter what shes playen ;)
someone told me A A C G A E
my favorite song off of dreaming of revenge :]
She has a ton of good songs, though I think I like her earlier stuff better; especially her second album Legs to Make Us Longer. There's not a single song on that album that I don't love, besides Can the Gwot Save us. XD It's all instrumental though.
