    I find it interesting how the music relies entirely on tempo and textural changes to evoke the sadder events in the prelude, rather than shifting into a minor key or pouring on the drama.

    Many years ago I attended a lecture of classical music in cartoons at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. After the lecture there was a reception in the lobby. I was amazed to see Richard Sherman there! And later on I ran into Michael Giacchino in the bathroom lol! I wanted to approach him but considering the circumstances I was way too embarrassed! When I saw him again he was chatting it up with Richard Sherman which really overwhelmed me to approach either of them.

    I love your analyses. They’re incredibly useful for when I’m struggling with a piece. I found your video on the Revolutionary Etude particularly useful!
    If you intend to do future analyses on film themes, I can thoroughly recommend Joe Hisaishi’s scores for Hayao Miyazaki’s films. They’re quite interesting harmonically, and many of them have great melodies.

    Thank you for this analysis. I actually enjoy the, "Stuff We Did," cue. That cue has that beautiful F Maj7, and even extends to a 10th (I can't reach that). That F Maj 7 has so much nostalgia because of that modal mixture. I also enjoy those mediant thirds relationship (ex. F Maj to D Maj). All in all, this music being in a CHILDREN's film really surprised me.
    Film scores of this nature, with rich orchestration, strong motifs, and colorful harmonies are very rare, today. We are in a trend, today, where we are steering AWAY from strong thematic development, the use of a classic orchestra, and replacing it with more obscure drone sounds. Much more synths are being used, today, and the music is more of a soundscape with more emphasis on blending sounds with sound effects.

    I found a resemblance to Satie's "Je te veux," your thoughts? Thank you for discussing your arrangement decisions they are helpful as I struggle to arrange some orchestral works

      The music definitely sounds very "French" to me. I find a resemblance in Mel Bonis's Gai Printemps

    I love this music. Thanks for arranging it. What grade do you think this piece is?

    • @SonataSecrets
      @SonataSecrets  12 днів тому +1

      It's quite advanced, but mostly the part I skip over in the video. Maybe around grade 4-5 for the most part but like 7 for bars 41-45 and 101-108. It's hard to say for certain...

      There are definitely better arrangements for lower grades out there, I just haven't looked into that.

    If one wouldn't know the corresponding movie scene, there would be NOTHING "tear jerking" in the music. It's just one of these usual "old-timey", "circus/fair"-feeling, schmaltzy pieces. Harmonically and formally, it's even a bit clumsily written.
