You would not believe how far I haf to scroll through youtube, forums, etc to find a golf with the blue-green yellow connector. My golf has an aggressive battery drain due to the monsoon amp, and I couldnt find any information on how to wire an aftermarket radio to that specific connector. Every other monsoon setup I saw had a quad lock... but this radio might actually be the solution since its plug and play!!! Ill let you know but im glad I found it. Thanks for a clear tuitorial!!!
Make sure you reach out to the seller, and tell them specifically which year/model of MK4 you have, and that you have the Monsoon system. As I understand it, the piggyback connector for that specific unit alleviates the battery drain as it tells the amp to turn off when the radio is off, otherwise it has an "automatic" power feature that is supposed to make it turn off, but the internal switch that is supposed to trigger that goes bad and causes the drain. When the signal from the headunit toggles the power this isn't supposed to be an issue.
Yes, the BlueTooth function works nicely for calls. Recently have had to spent a lot of time on the road and it's been trouble free. Not sure if it's got a built in mic, or if it's using the mic from the phone, but no complaints from folks on the other end.
So far so good. No issues. I've got another one in our other Jetta, and if I didn't already have the factory navi unit in my R32, I'd have put one into that as well.
I haven't seen one with green lighting, but I'm pretty sure Matthew Litke (Clusters By Litke) could do custom work to change the lighting if you really wanted to spend the money.
Usually when that happens, it’s because the wrong wiring harness adapter is being used. Reach out to the radio manufacturer/seller with the information about which specific model year and options your car has, so they can get you the right one.
I have a problem, with taking out the radio, I manage to fix one side with a cheap key and the other side I can't at all, I don't know what to download, how to take the radio out, if you could help me, thank you
Cheap tools don't work well for this. Best to invest a little more in some better radio keys, they work much better since they don't bend and the grip the radio better. No need to spend a lot. I spent about $12 and those keys were much better than the $5 versions.
@@CliffjumperCars I ordered the kit through amazon, I wouldn't take it off but I didn't put the radio plug in, but I plugged in the radio without any plug-ins, my radio light doesn't come on and it won't bluetooth
I have not looked into that for this unit. Haven't really found a need... it uses the mic in the phone, and plays audio through the speakers, and that seems to work nicely.
Yes! The 2000 uses the same early adapter harness as the one we used on our 2001 Jetta. We removed the cubby above the single DIN radio to install this one, and it's plug & play!
@@christopherrose3399in my case, I tied into the audio signal going to the LR & RR channels at the factory amp in the back to supply audio signal to the amp for the sub, which I mounted in the trunk. As with any aftermarket amp installation I had to run a dedicated fused power back to that amp, and in this case the amp had a built in auto power on/off feature that I used to control it.
Angle the keys so the flat side is outward, the angled cut is inward toward the center of the radio. As you insert them you should feel a click as they lock in to the radio release tabs. If you're using the cheap ones that come with the kit, you may need to wiggle them a bit to get them inserted fully, and press the handles outward to make them push the release tabs in. If you're using the Amazon release keys, they just lock in, and you can pull the radio out using the round ends on the keys.

Hy, the BT function it's working for phone calls too? If yes, how is the sound quality? The caller can hear you well? Thanks

So 9 months later, how's the radio holding up? All buttons/,functions work?

Hey, thanks for the video. Are you aware if this will work with mk4's with steering wheel controls?
None of my Mk4s have steering wheel controls, so I cannot report on that one way or the other.
Did you go for the radio? Did they work?
Is there any possibility where i can get the same unit with green backlights?
I haven't seen one with green lighting, but I'm pretty sure Matthew Litke (Clusters By Litke) could do custom work to change the lighting if you really wanted to spend the money.
BT doesn’t even show as an option for me and can’t find any info online. Have you heard of this happening?

Will it fit a 2004 VW Golf?
Yes indeed!

There’s a mic on the top right next to the cd slot

Thanks, I’ll do that, yes I’m using the one that was include in the radio.
Does the radio turn on and off when turning in and off the car or do you have to do it manually?
It turns on and off with the car. You can turn it on manually with the car off too, just like the original Monsoon radio.
