The 4th method is just use your fingers, it’s great value for money too.
I never understood why there are so many gadgets for this. What's so hard about peeling hard-boiled eggs?
I have a hard time peeling the eggs. The problem I have is I lose chunks of the egg white when I peel them. I was told it's because I use fresh eggs and I should let them sit awhile first. Well, I want to be able to cook and eat my eggs when I get more at the grocery store! LOL
They sell pre boiled, pre-peeled eggs at most grocery stores. They are packaged in duos and they are great for lunches and they last for months in the fridge.
That's right Pamela. Buy 2 dozen and keep one to age a bit for boiling, and the other to use right away. But the key to easy peeling is to roll the egg around on the counter with your palm until the shell pieces are as small as possible.
I crack the shell by rolling it on the counter. Then I peel it while holding it under rolling water. Works really well on eggs that i peel a day or two after cooking them
I do the same, except only after 10 minutes of cooling time, and start by peeling from the big end first where the air pocket is.
Tap it with a spoon to crack all the shell then slide the spoon under the shell and go around.
Same. I let the shells fall in a pasta strainer for super easy clean up!
I’m a fairly new cook. I’ve tried a few methods but the one that works for me is to peel them by hand as soon as they are cool enough to handle. I’ve had the most success doing it that way.
i twist with both hands going opposite ways ! it rips it apart in two whole peices
have you tried teh roll and pop? roll it on the counter and remove the shell with your thumb
For me the best is rolling them on the side on the counter. Usually can get a good number of the shells to come off in two pieces.
As soon as they are ready make sure to have the sink running put em in a bowl run water over them then take one out quickly pound about half the egg on the counter then with your hands put egg back under running water and peel. 💯 percent perfect every time
Whatever happened to just rolling an egg on the counter with light pressure and washing the shell off under running water?
This is how I do it. Works better than these methods and the cooldown time isn't nearly as long. Just put in cool water until you can handle them.
I lightly tap the egg all around, myself. Every time I try to roll it, I squish is, no matter how lightly I try. It either doesn't break, or it squishes...I have no finesse. XD
The way my grandmother taught me was with a flat palm roll it ONCE across the counter with medium pressure.
The idea isnt to get a mosaic pattern. But just to crack it enough so it comes off in just a few large pieces. Try it
Hey James, I'm from Puerto Rico and I just wanted to say I love your videos. Also when we were hit by the hurricane a year ago, I saw your video about the Atomic Beam light and for the 7 months I didn't have electricity that was what I used around the house so in a way thank you for that. You are the best!!!
I know this comment is 3 years old, but I just wanted to say I hope things are better for you now. When the hurricane hit, my husbands aviation unit took their chinook helicopters down there to help get things back up, like power lines. He had nothing but wonderful things to say about PR. Sadly, I am also from the area where the PRANG C-130 crashed. It was just a couple miles from my house. We haven’t and will never forget that tragedy. We have two memorials set up to honor the 9 men that passed. I hope things continue to get better there for y’all.
I don’t know if you will get a notification for my comment to you 5 years later here (it looks like you might not have for the person who last wrote you 2 years ago - _OR_ you just didn’t feel like replying haha), but we shall see…
I just had a small question for you: Why were you out of electricity for 7 months? I’m just curious because I was friends with someone who lived in Puerto Rico back then when the hurricane hit, and they weren’t out of electricity for _THAT_ long.
Every time you shake the egg, the auto subtitles come up as "applause" :)
The eggstractor is magic! 😳 The 1st time you tried it, the yoke came out 1st. The 2nd time you tried it, the cabinet door opened! The 5th time you tried it, only the yoke came out! Either you're a magician, bro or......😱
Happy 2nd Anniversary on UA-cam! I am looking forward to what you have in store to review this next year.
I found this video enjoyable to watch with you and your son together. He has your smile which is contagious, I just help but smile too.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful day!
Congratulations on 2yrs!!! I love watching your videos. They really are very helpful. Thanks for another great review!
Very impressed you got the Eggstractor to work! I didn’t have any luck. I loved seeing the cameraman help you out. Congratulations on 2 years! 🎉
Ever since I started making my eggs in a pressure cooker I can peel an egg with ease lol
Seriously, I was blown away at how easy they peel fresh out of the instant pot. Best way to make hard boiled eggs for sure.
Who needs all the King’s horsemen or all the King’s men, Brandon put Humpty back together again!
Now that was funny! I loved your and Brandon's reviews! And watching those eggs explode was awesome! Thanks for the review! Your the best!
I've always had decent luck with a jar - still fairly hot eggs, and two or three eggs in a larger jar.
Thanks
I don’t even like hard boiled eggs, but I had to watch because your reviews are always so entertaining. LOL
Looks like you guys had fun making this video I was laughing through most of it
This one had me laughing so hard. Thank you I so needed that.
The eggstractor is one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever seen LOL.
Great review as same as usual 💙
So interesting there is so many items for just peel eggs 🥚
Nice father and son!
Love to watch your video 🔥
You guys and eggs. Lol. Maybe you need to have a chicken farm to keep up. Love your videos, and always happy to see a new one out by you, though I’m not getting notifications like I’m supposed to.
I have yet to see the eggstractor work and ive watched quite a bit of videos but yours was the best i have seen.
The Eggstractor had me laughing. Best way I've found of peeling hard-boiled eggs is to crack the shell a few times all round, then roll the egg on a hard surface with the palm of your hand. Keep egg under running water when taking the shell off and the shell should then come off easily and usually in one piece :)
Hey, I really enjoyed your demo, best of all I have seen, you convinced me my old jar method is good. I just have to work in the amount of water. Thanks
Happy 2yr anniversary! The Collins family loves your videos!
Watching at 7 a.m. and got my laugh on for the day. On a positive note, very informative.
Lol you guys! First laugh of the day and it's actually 9pm. Thanks :)
I found this video so eggpeeling that it made me eggcited to watch this video! Bravo James good work!
I've found if you put your eggs in cold water as soon as they are done. The white pulls away from the shell better. I roll them on the counter cracking the shells)and then peel them under a stream of cold running water. If you can't peel them right away, refrigerate them and peel them when they are completely cold.
These "time savers" always crack me up...(get it? lol) Just crack the top and the bottom on the counter and then roll it under your hand which will crack the shell all over. The shell will usually just slide off easy-peasy....but then, what they DON'T tell you is that the age of the egg usually determines how easy they are to peel. Older eggs peel easily because the membrane on the inside gets larger with age. Fresh eggs are notoriously hard to peel....no matter HOW you do it! Great video...I so needed the laugh. At least these "devices" give you a fantastic arm workout...right? lol
Congratulations on 2 years keep up the good work
the negg is awesome i love it, once they are done cooking i put cold water and start using the negg right away, and in the few times ive used it because i just got it i have had 5 eggs completely peel while shaking in the negg. you dont have to shake as violently as they are just a simple back and forth motion and its great
Congratulations on your two year anniversary. 💖🎊🎉💞💕 And congratulations on 200,000 subscribers too.🎉💞💕💖
You're using very fresh eggs. Those are always harder to peel.
I thought fresh eggs were easier. Maybe that's been my problem. I like to make homemade pickled eggs, sometimes it looks like the battlefield they had! Is there an age I should wait for, like after I buy them?
@@nate_d376 Fresh eggs are full of whites. As they age, the amount of fluid decreases (egg shells are actually porous.) So, when you cook them, the shell isn't as tight.
Debra Baker, thanks. I'll definitely let them sit for a week before cooking them! 👍
The Egg pooper thing was a riot. Thank you for the laughs, guys
the face when shaking, priceless
Great vid James! You guys are too funny!
The Negg thing looks like it would only be as good as bashing the egg on a bench until the shell is super cracked. I've not used any of them so I can't be sure. Good range of tests this episode.
Soak eggs in cold water, drain saucepan, bang eggs around til shells are cracked, peel.
you are literally the only person i've ever seen get the eggstractor to work.
A good tip for peeling eggs is to really shock it in ice water directly after you boiled them and leave them for at least 30 seconds. That will make the thin membrane holding on to the shell release and make it much less likely that the egg-white sticks to the shell when removing it. if you leave them off after cooking that will not happen. so you need to do it quickly.
A video I never knew i needed. I think just hand peeling is fine. All seemed like alot of extra work for no reason. I don't even ice bath them just run a little cold water until I can pick it up
I always found it easiest to to have a mixing bowl of cool water. Tap them a few times around the shell to crack it, and then peel them under water. The first time the shell lifts a little bit, water gets under it and the rest of the shell basically falls away. It does not use more water in the long run as you are cooling them quickly in the water bath to begin with.
You know this videos are great, when you get so much fun waching a ten minute video about eggs... great video!! Saludos desde México 👍
At 5:50 I laughed so hard. That was both spectacular and hilarious. The most funny clip so far ;-) Please do a full length comedy of testing kitchen appliances :0)
You cant believe how much money you have saved me doing these reviews. Thank you!
Egg-cellent video. This egg-speriment is eggs-actly what we needed, and now we can all benefit from your egg-sperience. Well done! (Or sunny side up, if you prefer.) 🤣
I always use a spoon and slide it under the shell as I peel, it helps.
I don't think it was the number of shakes with the Negg, but the force of the shaking. I've used the jar method for both peeling eggs and peeling garlic (no water for the garlic btw, just a dry bulb). It works, but takes a bit of oomph. That's a scientific term. lol In a like manner, that light tap tap tap of the big end of the Eggstractor probably could have been a one-tap, slightly more forceful tap. In the jar, far less water and more vigorous shakes. Since my content is partially made up of kitchen tips, maybe I'll drop a video using the jar method soon.
My wife says use older eggs not fresh eggs are much harder to de shell.. Great job James, been watching you since the beginning congrats!
I always think brown eggs are harder to peel...
Congratulations on 2 years haven't missed a video there have been several times I have been asked about something and I have them watch your reviews😁💕👏
Love them all...
The older the egg the easier it is to peel, The reason is the membrane separates more as the egg ages.
Also one of the easier methods is crack them, then place under running water and use a spoon. Press the spoon just under the membrane and then turn the egg around removing the shell easily.
Interesting! I haven’t heard of the spoon method before… I think you should clarify that it should be cold water though, obviously. Coldwater, from what I understand, helps separate the membrane as well (and this should be done right after the egg is finished boiling).
It’s kind of interesting in that the older an egg is, the better it is for eating it as boiled, while the fresher it is, the better it is for eating poached. :)
I just realized I am sitting here watching two guys peel hard boiled eggs-and enjoying it.
I don't like eggs but the comment about the "Egg battlefield" and the "casualties" made me laugh so hard. Thank you James and Brandon.
I havent laughed that hard in awhile! Best video ive seen in awhile!
Another channel suggested that it's science... start the eggs by lowering them into boiling water, then into ice water when done. Said the membrane attaches to the shell and not the egg white as opposed to putting in a cold pan of water and then heating it up. I tried and that worked, I also used a Nescafe Instant Coffee jar, put 3 eggs in with about 1/2 C water and shook 6 times. The shells came right off. But I ALWAYS peel under the water faucet. Thanks for this video!!!
Very entertaining and informative review. Always enjoy watching. I'm left with a rotten taste for the devices .... But an overwhelming craving for eggs. Go figure!!!
I've always been told that if you overcook your boiled egg, the outside of the yoke turns dark, but it was perfect when you put it in the fridge, and the next day it was dark. Hard to say whether it was age or temp that caused the darkening. I think the eggs have to be freshly-cooked for the gadgets and hack to work effectively.
As you know from my comments on other videos, I always look forward to your videos. I think you should feature Brandon more often in trying out gadgets with you. I think this video really proves that different people might have more or less success with the gadgets, and Brandon is also a worthy, handsome young man to feature on-camera.
I use a little jar to mix my scrambled eggs in the morning. They usually get "all shook up" and then I can just cook them. And the eggstractor is good for funny noises, if you like that kind of thing in the morning. That being said, I'll stick to the counter top crack and peel method. and it helps if they are a little damp, too.
7:12 i was laughing when the cabnet opened lol
The best way ive found is doing it while theyre hot under cold water
I find getting the water to a boil first then slowly dropping the eggs in will make the peeling process much easier.
Then I hit the big end on the table and usually peeling from there is the easiest, usually falls right off even days after.
That's about how the eggstractor worked for me, too. As someone who doesn't like to quit, I went through a dozen eggs and couldn't get it to work, I think I didn't have them cooled enou5, however. I'll have to try one more time.
Congratulations on 2 years!
The Eggstractor is a take on a way to do it by hand. Tap the egg on both ends.. Peel a little back on the ends. Put it in your hand and blow on the back of the egg.. holding your other hand out in front to catch it.
A little practice and you can blow the egg out off the Shell. Not really a great way if your serving it to guests.. not very hygienic.. but for yourself. It works.
I suspect your eggs are harder to peel than store bought.. they look like farm fresh eggs.. and the shell seemed to stick to the egg more.
If you try the Eggstractor again.. when you tap the rounded end.. try and get it cracked all around the curved part..not just the point... I bet it works better.
I've always tapped the egg against the sink and then start it on the larger end and once you get hold of that membrane the whole thing comes off pretty easy.
I have never seen eggstractor work so perfectly.😮
Edit: maybe I commented little bit earlier.
I wonder how fresh your eggs were BEFORE cooking. Martha Stewart says they should be at least a week old. This creates a larger space in the wide end, allowing for easier peeling. Also, Americas Test Kitchen says 15 minutes in the ice bath is best for peeling. I loved this review!
Hey,
I have came up with my own hack. What I do is take a small plastic box like those small Ziploc containers. I add the egg directly into the container without cooling it because I like my eggs served hot. I also add the reserve water from the pot, about three to four spoons. Then I shake it vigorously and the skin peels off in the container. Try it.
The bit with the cabinet door being open after you got the Eggstractor to work had me laughing.
I've used a Tupperware bowl and lid. It peeled 5 out of 6 eggs at a time. Add about a quarter to half cup of COLD water, put in the eggs, snap lid on tightly and shake it with 2 hands. Peeled great.
Thanks for the review.
Idk why but when the cameraman did it and just the yolk popped out I was cracking up, no egg pun intended 😅
Lol... who'd have thunk watching an egg peeler review could be so fun! Yeah...I rinse mine in cold water in pan after done boiling...tap along the sides of the pan while dipping in a little water I leave on the bottom of the pan (about an inch)... the trick is to get the water under that sometimes spandex tight membrane... once that's accomplished the peel comes right off... not always easy and the eggs do need to be somewhat warm. I've never peeled a cold hb egg... lol. Smiles and blessings...
With the eggstracter try cracking and peeling the top and bottom of the egg then rolling the egg on it's side cracking the shell. Put it in the device and with moderate pressure push down. Using that technique I have been able to cup the egg in my hand and by putting my thumb and forfinger up to my mouth and blowing have had success forcing the complete egg from its shell.
Even though the eggstracter doesn't perfectly work i love it for the entertainment value alone
THE SON HAS BESTED THE MASTER!!LOL!!
So much of how a egg peels is how it's cooked. I've heard tossing eggs into ice baths after cooking will help with peeling. I've no idea if this works because I don't really do hard boiled eggs often if at all.
And if all else fails, it's EGG SALAD FOR DAYS!!!LOL!!
eggs seem very hard to peel in the usa ,does the chemical cleaning have anything to do with it ? in europe and UK we dont chemically clean eggs they come into our supermarkets unwashed and unprocessed ,u even see some dirt or hay on them ! and when hard boiled the shell peels off so easily even without ice cooling it ,i think how usa washes eggs makes the shell very brittle ?
After trying the Negg, eggstracktor, different cooking methods and all the hacks seen on youtube, I came to the conclusion there is no decent way
to peel a hard boiled egg. Then I found the perfect solution... the electric pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot). I use the GoWise USA pressure
cooker and use the egg setting for 3 minutes and natural release for 10 minutes, ice bath for ten minutes and the eggs practically fall out of their
shells... It's like a miracle!!! My prayer has been answered.
The problem with these convenience products is that they don't factor in cleaning time and kitchen space. For just peeling a few eggs, definitely just use your hands
You don't need to use a jar, a small juice glass works great if you hold your hand over the opening. You don't need much water and once you perfect the technique, you can peel eggs very quickly.
This. I don't even put water in mine. I just tap the air cell end on the counter, drop it in the jar, and shake it a few times before lifting the shell off.
Congrats on the two year anniversary!
I have the same egg cooker and what I do is put all the eggs in a Tupperware container with some ice and kinda shake them and for the most part they all come out with the shell about to fall off. Then I peel under some flowing water
Thank you so much for this video, now the only way I peel eggs is with my mason jar!!! Saves SO MUCH TIME! We eat hard boiled eggs for breakfast and make egg salad and I hated peeling eggs, now it's not a chore and the little ones like to shake the jar! You can reuse a glass jar from pickles or something just wash it. Also if you have a pressure cooker they seem to peel quicker anyway.
Big fan sir thank u for ur reviews !
Love ya man, n where's my Bailey dog. Tyfs these reviews, it's a great help
Hahaha that eggstractor should be renamed to yokestractor 😂. It was hilarious when the egg exploded the first time and then when the yoke popped out only.
I could be wrong but I thought you're supposed to shake the egg so it rattles against the sides of the glass or Negg, not the top and bottom. I usually just press down on the egg as I roll it on the counter which cracks the whole outer shell and easily peel it away.
I'm hungry for eggs now. I usually just peel the egg manually, I just gently bump it on the table or plate and peel it. It's faster than shaking it or using any other device. I noticed that it depends on the temperature on the egg how well it will peel.
I used an eggstractor many years ago and was the only one in my family that could make it work.. It is very important to push straight down, with no wiggle at all. That is why the crossed hands. Also I was the only one tall enough to come straight down on it. I had 10 out of 12 work right.
One reason I think the jar wasn't working like the Negg like you expected was the bump in the Negg, there was no equivalent bump in the basic jar. If you decide to revisit the basic jar method, maybe see about punching a bit of a divot into the lid to the jar. Maybe even using a smaller jar too. Like a cleaned out salsa jar with a bump punched into it with a hammer? Just a thought.
As for me, I'll keep doing it the old fashioned way personally.
What works for me is put salt in the water when you boiling the eggs and roll it on the table make sure is crack all around and it will come out very easy .
I use the new 'baking method to make my hardboiled eggs lol then use the old standard crack the ends tap the sides and roll it gently and peel... cant see how these gadgets make it any faster or easier... u also get more clean up. but it was a fun video
I had one something like the negg 30 years ago and it worked perfect, wish I still had it.
This was a Freaking good review ;-)
Some fresh brown eggs are hard to peel, even cold brown eggs are even harder to peel. I find getting the skin membrane to split and peel the egg under running water getting the boiled egg slickened up to extract easier but not always work perfectly.
It's good to know that it's as much of a pain to peel eggs, as I experience. It seems like either it's just a bad thing to do or I haven't come across a 98% success rate method. I wonder about "scoring" an egg before cracking, would help to make it crack how you want, without sawing it to the egg, which may embed bits of shell in the edible part.
A contraption for peeling eggs! How about that! I just love watching your vids, you are a delight and with your son all the more!!! Thanks...
I learn to peel with table spoon, firt cut it in half and then scoop it out. The cutting part is difficult because you crack the shell in fine pieces.
USE SALT!!!!
I used to do 400 hardboiled eggs every morning when I cooked at a nursing home and the easiest way is to just add A LOT of salt to the water. The salt doesn't go through the shell so it won't affect the taste of the egg but after cooking the shell literally falls off.....you're welcome.
If the shell is sticking a little bit add more salt next time.
If you're doing large batches after cooking in water with A LOT of salt you just dump them into a strainer (you want the shells to crack so don't be gentle) and spray them with water, the shells rinse right off.
How much salt, like 2 cups?
@@HelloHello-hk4sx I never really measured so I can't say for sure but unless you're doing a lot of eggs I don't think you need 2 cups. I would start on the low end, maybe 1/2 cup per dozen and adjust from there. If the shells stick use more salt next time and if they come off try less until you find the right balance, so your not over doing the salt and wasting it.
Today I learned that nursing home residents love hard boiled eggs.
@@mst3kanita I cooked for about 600 residents but a lot wanted hb eggs every morning. Their favorite breakfast was hard boiled eggs, lunch was egg salad/chicken salad and dinner was liver and onions. We had a lot of variety and a lot of really good food but everyday I would get a ton of request for those things. Cooking liver and onions is absolutely disgusting
@@HelloHello-hk4sx a pinch of salt per egg should be enough
