  • Constantinesco Sonic Works Factory, West Drayton, Greater London (Georges Constantinesco, the inventor of Synchronized aircraft guns used in World War 1 and later many important additions to the motor industry)
    CONSTANTINESCO SONIC FACTORY
No title. Two men use pickaxes to demolish a wall. This is seen from the side where the bricks are being knocked out. The bricks pile up in front of the camera. Panning shot of a very large square building. Other buildings are seen, possibly factory buildings. Camera pans across to show men collecting and transporting bricks or rubble. M/S of interior of one of the factory buildings. Various machinery stands idle. Most of the machines have fabric covers over them. Workers are seen moving through the factory. M/S of two men standing beside a piece of machinery. One man cranks a handle as the other holds a string. A weight bobs up and down. Another piece of machinery is demonstrated.
Man (possibly the inventor Georges Constantinesco himself), wearing a suit and bowler had) stands behind a table and demonstrates various parts of a machine. Various parts are fitted together and slotted in. Various other pieces of machinery are demonstrated. A man pours liquid into a metal tube than places a valve on top. Men are seen at work. Various shots of men on the factory floor at work and of various engines and machines. The Constantinesco Rock Drill is shown in operation (several shots)
M/S of dignitaries (one wears a top hat and tails) (possibly members of the Admiralty Section of the Board of Inventions and Research) being shown around the factory. One of the smartly dressed men (again probably Constantinesco) loads an artillery gun whilst the top hatted man watches. The visitors including military types chat and laugh on the factory floor and outside in the rain. One of the large silent guns is prepared for fringing - the film seems to run out just at the moment the gun is set off.
Note: The film has been under cranked so movement is fast at sound speed.

My grandfather worked for Constantinescu before and after WW1; we have a photo of him demonstrating the sonic rock drill. I think he may be the guy in a bowler hat to the left of the picture at about 10:45 who points towards the camera.
