They attempt to escape, scalling the trench wall and sprinting towards the densely packed woods. Muzzle flashes pop up in the fog as they are cut down, looking back towards the enemy I continue to fire. Sweat slowly drips from my forehead as I train my eyes on the charging enemies, a bullet imbeds itself in my shoulder. Adrenaline pumping through my veins I brush of the pain training my fire through the gloom. More bullets skid past bouncing of the ground, finally I'm hit in the chest with a singular bullet. I tumble of the machine gun and hit the cold wet soil, gently falling my eyes fall onto the many bodies of my fellow troops. Bleeding out I lie there incapacitated, the shouts of the enemy growing closer. 5 contacts jump down into the trench, the glance a the bodies in the trench. An m1 garande lies only inches away from me, calling on my last remaining bits of strength my hand wraps around it as I lift the sight up.
