    This video is INSANELY beautiful. The cinematography, the music, the editing, the transitions….my son and I couldn’t decide if we were more enamored with the footage and how it was portrayed or the actual mechanics of the making of the video. Devastatingly beautiful and visually stunning. BRAVO!!!!

    I joined the SCA back in 1984 when there was a group in the college I went to. I've been away for a long time for many reasons.. I have to say it made me very emotional. Very well done video and an example of what the SCA was meant to be.

And I have that because of the love and support I have from my friends and people I know in the SCA. Second, the Pennsic War is an event that the SCA runs at Cooper's Lake Camp-Ground in Pennsylvania, Pennsic being a fake word derived from the state name, Pensylvania, and from the Punic Wars, which was a trio of pre-Christ wars that involved the Ancient Roman area.
      Now, if you called someone in the Western Kingdoms (the original Californian group), they might not know much about Pennsic or, you might not have gotten someone who is newer, but the SCA doesn't have much of a hotline exactly. Bryant Waner its very similar to a live action role play club, but it is NOT larping...i know co fusing but if you read about it, youd start to understand it. larping is the only t ing that can help outsiders understand an equivalent or close to an equivalent. they try to be decently historically accurate. its world wide. based on the 17th century and before (so 1600s and under)
      basically, there are local groups for this all around you (if you know where to look) that meet frequently and have events the mimic the middle and dark ages as well as the renaissance. you can learn archery, heavy weapons fighting, fencing, cooking, sewing, metalwork, glassblowing.... basically an medieval trade you could wish to learn. they get together for events and feasts (sometimes in different kingdoms which includes traveling across the country) that can last for days. Pennsic,one if the biggest events the SCA has in the US can have anywhere from 6-8000 people in battle alone, and anywhere from 10-12 thousand SCA reenactors at the event withover 1200 Classes gping on. at these events there are fighting tournaments, food, classes, vendors for your SCA garb and kits.
      for more information visit www.SCA.org

    • @mumblesandwool1243

      Bryant Waner oh an the biggest thing. its not a renaissance faire because they have performerd and an audience. with the SCA, everyone is fressed in full garb and participating in the living history. this is no "spectators" dressed in modern clothing. you are living the middle ages in the SCA.

    • @bmp112
      @bmp112 5 років тому +3

      Johnathan Berry well the top royalty changes every 6 months or so, and each have won a combat tournament to get to that station, afterwards they are considered nobles forever, though it’s generally a very laid back thing, I met the then king of my kingdom at a small event because I had brought a medieval board game and he was interested, a few months later I showed up at the 50th anniversary of the Sca and was welcomed to play a game of go, there were no real formalities as it was just a private game between enthusiasts, the royalty is mainly there to let it feel more real, they don’t have too much power in practice, their main job it to show up, look royal, and give out awards where warranted. My advice is to find your local group, show up to a SoCal gathering, and ask for loaner clothes and go to an event! You will have a blast!

      Johnathan Berry good to hear! I hope you enjoy it. I’d give you the normal “don’t buy until you try” speech but if your in hema you already have an understanding of how getting hit feels, so instead I’ll say this, make sure what you buy is Sca legal! Nothing sucks worse than buying cool looking gear, only to be told you can’t use it because it’s not safe!

By this point, I'm hoping that you have engaged in some of our "Cut and Thrust" rapier practices and/or tourneys. You will fit right in. The cool thing about SCA compared to HEMA is that in addition to the sword fighting there is a whole world of other activities, crafts, feasting, social interaction and recognition of greatness, camping, and so on.
