I loved the series. Me personally, I would love to see the run continued and see the minimum amount of fights where attacking with the main character is required
I consider challenge run rules to only apply to situations, where you actually have a choice, on whether or not to stick to them. So no available party members = battle doesn't count. Like with the FF XV Magic Only run, which did not allow for warp-striking, and yet you warp-striked the tank at the train invasion to not have the run randomly end there. A few months ago, I've seen the GTA 5 "Pacifist" run by the youtuber DarkViperAU, which was actually a "minimum kills" run, and the end result was super interesting in itself. I'd much prefer you to continue this run, as the question as to HOW you overcome certain challenges is much more interesting than a binary "is it possible?".
Yeah, if it is physically impossible to keep the rule, no ways around or bugs etc to use, then it's still a valid challenge. Because otherwise there wouldn't be any valid challenges for that

I'd be willing to give you a pass on Vince's "fight" considering he's canonically letting you win. It's a scripted cutscene, with Miss being the word used to indicate he's doing 0 damage.

Ooh, that reminds me of how I did a handicapped no level grinding run of Sailor Moon: Another Story when I was younger. I faced the game’s final boss, Deity of Destruction (aka, Demon Apsu), solo Sailor Moon. I just threw a tiara at her twelve times and then kicked her for the rest of the fight. It was a slow grind that dragged on till she was out of MP, so she spent most of her turns trying to use magic and failing.
That was a great series personally i would love to see you continue and see if you can do minimum attacks or something as this could be like a required attack to continue the game but thats just me personally

Since you asked, the reason Sylvondo fought the Luminary is cause your party split into teams to have the best chance at the getting the rainbough, and the Luminary and Sylvondo got matched up against each other. So no matter what they'd have to fight each other anyway.

Also not the only one to explain that Sylvando was in the tournament because both he and Eric joined because if they won, then it still gets the item the team wants. Eric lost in the first round to Rab and Jade. It's just story/gameplay shenanigans that dictates that you need to be the one to win it all. Congrats on Arachtagon! He was small wall for my All Draconian run, requiring grinding and specifically gunning for one of Sylvando's best moves, Hustle Dance. Honestly? I'd really love to see you continue this. I always feel like considering a challenge failed, especially ending it, over forced gimmick things like tutorials or special encounters was always pretty pointless. The point of a challenge run is to play the game in an unintended way. It is meant to push the game to it's limits in the the average moment-to-moment gameplay. When certain events break the normal flow of gameplay, I really see no reason why it should count for the challenge. Sure, it's 'technically' impossible, but only because of some kind of abnormal, gameplay-altering gimmick, not because the it's actually impossible in normal gameplay. Though I don't blame you if you'd just like to call it quits in general for how difficult, grind-heavy, and luck based this is. It was still nice to see such content for a Dragon Quest game at all.

The game is saying that attacking ONCE is required for this specific fight. And we've come to an agreement that if an action is required to progress the story, it does not technically break the rules as it's specifically for story purposes. This is why Vince was missing every single attack. Even the Finger Poke of Doom would have been enough to move the story forward. This run is still valid under the pretense that this action must be undertaken to progress the main story. However, because there are no party members present, it can also be argued that the run automtaically fails because there IS no party member for that "battle".
Magnificent run Mr. Challenges! I'm always impressed by the sheer patience and hard work throughout these runs Oh, and a personal opinion here: making the runs in this multi-part style is just as good as making the longer videos. I don't know which is more demanding to do, so I think you should do whichever is more fun and/or less taxing for you
Firstly, thank you! 😀 Secondly, the workload is pretty similar, but other UA-camrs have advised me NOT to do multi-part series because stuff gets buried by the algorithm (I don't know if that's true or not). Just like the other people in the comments, I could also say "What about continuing and finding out the minimum amount of fails?" but with these lengthy grindings, it could take forever (it's more than 100 hours to beat it casually if I'm not wrong). I hope we'll see you playing another - and more feasible - challenge on this game. I like the idea of making an episodic series of a challenge run. It could be a handy method in the future if a single video is more than 2-3 hours long.

Massive shame Vince couldnt be beat like that, but im sure we would all still love to see how far you can take the story with this and highlight the impossible battles simmilar to how you did with the FFXIII run

I loved the content so far on this series, and as a massive dragon quest fanboy It's always great seeing challenge runs of it, so It's a shame that this is over, but I definitely feel, if you feel up to it, continuing as other commenters have suggested with the minimum strikes instead. If you wanted to keep in the spirit of the challenge you could use a weapon item skill? If you use certain weapons in battle as items they have an effect, like frizz or woosh e.t.c I think you should have access to the cautery sword at this point, and that has that feature. Just a thought. Either way thanks for the great run

Insane video, the amount of dedication you put to this series just left me in awe. Though i will admit that i'd be really fine if you were to continue the serie and bending the only defense rule when you are absolutely obligated to like this (one?) time ! Also, even if the amount of you GRINDING SOME MOOORE is (and i can't stress this enough) time consuming, maybe this serie can stay alive every video or so, like some specials episodes once in a while ? I'm gonna echo some other sentiments in the comments and say that, regardless of if the challenge is failed, I wouldn't mind seeing it continued to see how few times attacking is required, or just making an exception for 1 on 1 fights like that.
Honestly blown away by how far you took this genuinely curious just how far you can actually get I've finished the main game with all quests active and I don't think I could have done it. Would love to see you do more 😍
If your sanity doesn’t break, I would like to see this run continue just to see how far the team can carry the Luminary. Since the run was about your ‘party’ doing the damage, the Luminary should be free to attack for himself since the party isn’t around (and Vince is trying his best to make you look good and not a defending dead weight).
Id really love to see this series continue. Even though it is "technically" not possible to complete the challenge i would love to see in how many battles the main character has to act
It's actually nice seeing a challenge runner admitting when something isn't possible, instead of just ignoring that part of the game which always is stupid. If you only did it in your other videos, I could enjoy more of your content. Since I've seen other comments, the run should only continue if you change it to a miniumal fights needed.
If you continue this run, I recommend beelining Sylvando for the Showmanship skills. Hustle Dance, That's Amore, and Pink Pirouette are super good. Hustle Dance is one of the earliest options for a party-wide heal.
I remember how the Alltrades story arc of Dragon Quest 7 was unintentionally the hardest due to the sheer amount of restrictions inflicted upon you. This gave me an idea: Can You Beat Dragon Quest VII 3DS Without Using Spells or Skills? WARNING: The Alltrades arc is also extremely hated by just about everyone who's played the game including myself.
12:22 After the Slayer of the sands ordeal Sylvando probably thought he might as well try becoming the main character... That's my guess at least. He probably had a point too considering how long the fight took...
As someone who has played all of DQ11, I knew this challenge would be impossible after episode 1 couldn't even break the Tricky Devil, but it was still fun to see anyway. I think an adjustment as small as turning armor and accessories on could make it possible, but still very reliant on grinding and RNG.
You should allow yourself to beat Vince with the Luminary and then continue the challenge after. I want to see you attempt more of the game under these challenge restrictions because it just gets better from there.

I'd love to see how far you could have come in this challange by bypassing the challange rule for the last fight. But on the other hand i understand how tedious the grinds become.
I'm rather curious as to if you plan to do another challenge run for this game - one that will allow you to actually beat the game, that is of course after you've played it without challenges.... Enjoyed watching this mini-series.
I strongly recommend you continue the challenge from here. Just not as a pacifist run. An all Draconian options run is stupid hard anyways so it would still be worth watching.
I don't think it matters if Noah or Sylvando win the tournament, as long as one of them does, and whichever wins the fight is probably more likely to beat Rab and Jade in the finals
I can totally understand if you want to abandon this challenge, it seems like a nightmare - especially with playing the game for the first time. I hope you give the game a real playthrough though. It's genuinely a great rpg
Sylvando was “trying to stop the luminary from winning the tournament” because all the boys joined the tournament in order to win. So if any three of them won then the whole group will still get the reinbough? I don’t remember how to spell it. Anyways if either Slyvando Erik or the luminary win the tournament then the whole group still gets the prize anyways. It’s just that Sylvando got put into the semi finals against the luminary by chance
An alternative challenge could be "Can the AI beat Dragon Quest 11?". Unlike games like Persona, this game actually let's you set EVERYONE to AI controlled, including the Luminary! So it's entirely possible to never do anything in battle besides initiating it, and it would get around battles where you are on your own, as it's still up to the AI to beat everything...
Ahhhh, now THAT is clever. Technically, if the Luminary is AI controlled then we can still only select "Defend". You, friend, are a genius. That might be enough for me to make a Part 4.

If you use items instead of defending, maybe your defense will be low enough for Vince to occasionally do a small amount of damage/make contact enough that a parry procs, and you can hit back? Unlikely, but if you care to give it a go maybe something can be done.
if you didnt see this coming there are a few fights that are hero Solo so unless forced solo fights would need to be done but all others still have a lot of issues so id keep going

Massive shame Vince couldnt be beat like that, but im sure we would all still love to see how far you can take the story with this and highlight the impossible battles simmilar to how you did with the FFXIII run

I loved the content so far on this series, and as a massive dragon quest fanboy It's always great seeing challenge runs of it, so It's a shame that this is over, but I definitely feel, if you feel up to it, continuing as other commenters have suggested with the minimum strikes instead. If you wanted to keep in the spirit of the challenge you could use a weapon item skill? If you use certain weapons in battle as items they have an effect, like frizz or woosh e.t.c I think you should have access to the cautery sword at this point, and that has that feature. Just a thought. Either way thanks for the great run

Keep the series going! Imo thats a scripted fight where you have no choice and its basically a cutscene so i dont think anyone would be mad if you made an exception

Insane video, the amount of dedication you put to this series just left me in awe. Though i will admit that i'd be really fine if you were to continue the serie and bending the only defense rule when you are absolutely obligated to like this (one?) time ! Also, even if the amount of you GRINDING SOME MOOORE is (and i can't stress this enough) time consuming, maybe this serie can stay alive every video or so, like some specials episodes once in a while ? Great run already would love too see more DQ in general but also would love to see this series continue with basically a if required by the game clause that would allow u to do what's needed to progress the story. Great vid tho love Ur content!
I'm gonna echo some other sentiments in the comments and say that, regardless of if the challenge is failed, I wouldn't mind seeing it continued to see how few times attacking is required, or just making an exception for 1 on 1 fights like that.

If your sanity doesn’t break, I would like to see this run continue just to see how far the team can carry the Luminary. Since the run was about your ‘party’ doing the damage, the Luminary should be free to attack for himself since the party isn’t around (and Vince is trying his best to make you look good and not a defending dead weight).
Before I see the video, I need more videos of you doing challenge runs, I love the way to present your content :V

It's actually nice seeing a challenge runner admitting when something isn't possible, instead of just ignoring that part of the game which always is stupid.

If you continue this run, I recommend beelining Sylvando for the Showmanship skills. Hustle Dance, That's Amore, and Pink Pirouette are super good. Hustle Dance is one of the earliest options for a party-wide heal.

I remember how the Alltrades story arc of Dragon Quest 7 was unintentionally the hardest due to the sheer amount of restrictions inflicted upon you.
This gave me an idea: Can You Beat Dragon Quest VII 3DS Without Using Spells or Skills?
WARNING: The Alltrades arc is also extremely hated by just about everyone who's played the game including myself.

Reminder that some mobs in early areas can give you lvs for long after you have beaten the area such as the spitfires in gallop area or metal slimes

I may be a wee bit over leveled at 33-34 going into Octagonia. Sometimes the mindless grind is what it’s all about though.

That's my guess at least. He probably had a point too considering how long the fight took...
As someone who has played all of DQ11, I knew this challenge would be impossible after episode 1 couldn't even break the Tricky Devil, but it was still fun to see anyway. I think an adjustment as small as turning armor and accessories on could make it possible, but still very reliant on grinding and RNG.
You should allow yourself to beat Vince with the Luminary and then continue the challenge after. I want to see you attempt more of the game under these challenge restrictions because it just gets better from there.

I'd love to see how far you could have come in this challange by bypassing the challange rule for the last fight. But on the other hand i understand how tedious the grinds become.
I'm rather curious as to if you plan to do another challenge run for this game - one that will allow you to actually beat the game, that is of course after you've played it without challenges.... Enjoyed watching this mini-series.

I strongly recommend you continue the challenge from here. Just not as a pacifist run. An all Draconian options run is stupid hard anyways so it would still be worth watching.

I don't think it matters if Noah or Sylvando win the tournament, as long as one of them does, and whichever wins the fight is probably more likely to beat Rab and Jade in the finals

I can totally understand if you want to abandon this challenge, it seems like a nightmare - especially with playing the game for the first time. I hope you give the game a real playthrough though. It's genuinely a great rpg

A potential challenge run could be to see if you could beat the game witout using the character builder.
Sylvando was “trying to stop the luminary from winning the tournament” because all the boys joined the tournament in order to win. So if any three of them won then the whole group will still get the reinbough? I don’t remember how to spell it. Anyways if either Slyvando Erik or the luminary win the tournament then the whole group still gets the prize anyways. It’s just that Sylvando got put into the semi finals against the luminary by chance

An alternative challenge could be "Can the AI beat Dragon Quest 11?".
Unlike games like Persona, this game actually let's you set EVERYONE to AI controlled, including the Luminary! So it's entirely possible to never do anything in battle besides initiating it, and it would get around battles where you are on your own, as it's still up to the AI to beat everything...
Ahhhh, now THAT is clever. Technically, if the Luminary is AI controlled then we can still only select "Defend".
You, friend, are a genius. That might be enough for me to make a Part 4.

If you use items instead of defending, maybe your defense will be low enough for Vince to occasionally do a small amount of damage/make contact enough that a parry procs, and you can hit back? Unlikely, but if you care to give it a go maybe something can be done.
if you didnt see this coming there are a few fights that are hero Solo so unless forced solo fights would need to be done but all others still have a lot of issues so id keep going

Honestly I feel like this should still go since you said "Party Members" and that's a fight that you are forced to do as Hero with no party members.
