Here is some insight into EXO's "Dancing King" MV and song. This MV was created because Yu Jae Seok was challenged on the variety show Infinite Challenge by a cast member to perform with EXO. (We have to thank Kwanghee, from the Kpop boy group ZE:A, for this brilliant idea. :D)
Yu Jae Seok is the most famous and highest earning comedian and variety show host in Korea. If you watch any variety shows, chances are you will see him as the host. Some of the most famous shows he hosts, or used to host, are Running Man, Happy Together, Infinite Challenge and Who is the Murderer (which happens to also co-star Sehun from EXO). So, everyone in Korea, and most Kpop fans, know who Yu Jae Seok is. During this project, which was in 2016, all the EXO members were in their 20s. Yu Jae Seok is in his 40s, married and has children.
When the idea for this episode of Infinite Challenge came about, SM took this prime opportunity to capitalize on Yu Jae Seok's popularity and EXO's being "Dancing Kings" to make this MV.
The live performance you see in the MV was at one of EXO's concerts in Thailand a few days before this MV dropped. Yu Jae Seok's challenge was that he had to perform live in concert with EXO, ua-cam.com/video/NfSkSrq61Y4/v-deo.html. The MV is a bonus that SM decided to create to promote it all. You can find UA-cam clips of the live concert performance if you want to see it live.
The behind the scenes practicing clips are what you will see in a lot more detail if you watch the episode of Infinite Challenge, ua-cam.com/video/lT-6YZI7IfY/v-deo.html. Most of what you see in the MV was actually part of the filming for the TV show. SM just took those clips and added some extra elements -- such as the special effects, footage of fans and the puppet, etc. -- to turn it into an MV.
The pink bear in the MV is SM Entertainment's mascot. You will see a version of the bear in a lot of SM produced things -- it's part of the company's brand. Plus, as you may know, baby pink -- like the bear -- is SMTown's color. If you watch some SMTown concerts, for example, you will notice that the group T-shirt is usually pink, or at least the lettering on the shirt is pink. (And in the past, the shirt has even had the bear on it.) You also might have noticed on some of the SM videos you have watched, that SM's logo is pink as well. That's why SM artists and supporters are said to have "pink blood."
Funny thing is, even though Kai is "the dancing king," he was actually unable to dance in this MV. Kai was still injured during this time, so he sat out most of this concert. This was during the time when he had hurt his ankle/foot and he was walking around with a boot cast on his leg. So you only see Kai a little during his vocal parts of the song because he wasn't able to dance.
Also, something to note about Lay's participation in this song and performance, was that at this time he was really busy doing solo promotions and activities in China, so he was unable to practice with the rest of the members. But, he is such a good dancer that he only needed about a week before this performance to learn the dance by himself to get ready for this stage.
The MV was supposed to be fun, funny and a little bit cheesy, but also impressive, because Yu Jae Seok is a comedian and no one thought he would be able to pull it off. He actually proved everyone wrong and worked really hard -- and was fairly decent in the end. So he took on the challenge and pretty much won this one.
As you saw, Yu Jae Seok is not a singer or dancer. Even though he likes to dance, he isn't particularly great at it, but he sings in this song and, I'm surprised, he sounds pretty good. This was such a great collaboration.
Just so you know, the other older guy you see on stage in the MV is also a comedian and cast member on Infinite Challenge and he was at the concert acting as Yu Jae Seok's "manager".
Yu Jae Seok had about a month to learn this song and dance before he had to perform on stage.This whole episode of Infinite Challenge Episode 498 is about 1 hour and 20 minutes long. This was such a fun episode and it really showed a behind the scenes look at what goes into creating a new song, choreography and concert stage for EXO.
Infinite Challenge was a reality show based on a "duck out of water" concept. The comedians would attempt to accomplish challenging feats beyond their known abilities or comfort zones. The activities, on the show, were to be dirty, dangerous, and difficult. Yoo Jae-suk, a comedian and MC, took on the challenge to perform as an idol. This collaboration with EXO is legendary. I believe that the little puppet is the mascot of the show, Infinite Challenge.

I watched this episode and I loved it. Yoo Jae suk can sing and dance! I love him on Running man. It’s so hard to decide what EXO song is my favorite.
There’s a fun video showing their practices. Jae Suk didn’t think he could make it after an hour of practice. But he hung in there and did a bang up performance.

i'm not sure, but i think Kai sat this performance out. he was present everywhere except when they actually performed the song onstage. i believe he was still recovering from his injury. EXO-Ls can confirm if this is correct info or not.

Dancing King is my ringtone everyone, including me get shocked when my phone's ringing😂. This is one of my favorite collaboration of EXO (including solo collabs). Even if you're not into kpop you will dance to the song. I hope you guys react to other EXO members solos with collaboration with other singers and interviews.
Also Yoo Jae Suk create groups with actors and singers (it includes Hwasa from Mamamoo and Jessi). My favorite group he made (it was a parody of existing group called SG Wannabe) is MSG WANNABE where he choose people by their voice without seeing or knowing who the person is until he pick the person.
