    Fast forward to 2020...in July...if you have 30 day visa...it looks like you will have to do a border run every 30 days now...no more visits to a travel agent to get a 15day ext...fortunately, there are companies that do organized day long border runs for around $60-70 USD...it does take a full day
    to accomplish and there does not seem to be a restriction on the # of times you can do this.
    It's an inconvenience and an extra expense...but not the end of the world :) :)

    Hi. How often can you make a visa run? if you are a tourist all the time, won't the visa people get suspicious? Doesn't the law say that you mustn't work in the country on a tourist visa? If you are caught, are you deported and banned from entering the country again? If or maybe you also have to pay a fine? I am just wondering exact how many times you can safely do this. Vietnam sounds like a nice place.

    The bottom line is that I believe you need to be more comprehensive if you are going to present relevant topics, not just making things sound easy and simple because they usually aren't. The worst thing you can do is to build all of these expectations and then when people go to Vietnam they get upset because you never warned them. You would be wise to start focusing more on warnings and pitfalls rather than painting a perfect picture.

    Alex, I have a very specific question. I very much want to come to Vietnam to teach. My concern is that I have a drug conviction from over 16 yrs ago that would show up on my national police clearance. Would this prevent me from being able to work in Vietnam?

    • @user-kp5kg5dl8h
      @user-kp5kg5dl8h 8 років тому

      Have you been able to get a visa? From what I've read, those specific convictions as well as unpaid child support could deny even a passport. But if you do have a passport, then you MIGHT be okay. Surely there is a company over there that will not be as harsh about such an old charge...

    Alex,
    I paid $105 for my visa at the Vietnamese embassy in the states. It was a 90 day single entry visa stapled into my passport. I will be going to Vietnam this winter for about 4 weeks. I'd like to look into that letter you are talking about. I'd rather make it easier on myself. It can get a little annoying to send the passport into the embassy and wait weeks for it to come back.

    I really don't understand, my brother lived in Vietnam for 6 months and wanted to stay longer. He recently went to the embassy to extend his visa and they told him they can't do it and he needs to leave by December 18th. I just bought his ticket to go back to the U.S. for $750, and will buy him another ticket to Vietnam soon for around $1,600. What you are saying Alex is that he can just buy a ticket to Thailand for example and when he returns to Vietnam the visa will automatically extend? Please educate me on this so I don't have to throw money down the toilet on airfares. Thank you Alex!!!

    I'm sorry to comment on your video again Alex. I am not trying to troll you but I really do find some of your advice terrible. Firstly DO NOT come in to any country with the intention to work on a tourist visa. Yes lots do but it's dangerous for tax and immigration purposes. Ask yourself do you want to set up a life here then find yourself kicked out because you have a visa you cannot work on. Also they do sometimes ask questions if you have too many tourists visas.
    Schools should be providing you a visa and their are still plenty that will such as ILA, VUS and apollo. If your company wont pay a little more for a business visa it offers more protection should any problems arise.
    You can also through contacts renew visa in house. However it also seems Kuala Lumpur is cheaper than Bangkok in many ways should you need to do a visa run.
    Could I ask Alex what kind of visa you are on. Surely someone with a business has a business visa?

      +Simon Worden I work with some of the top schools and do recommend those with a bachelors degree bring a criminal background check, certified copy of their degree and TEFL certification so that we can offer them interviews at these schools, which will sponsor you a work permit and business visa.
      However, the reality of the teaching scene here is that lots of schools will not sponsor work permits. I'd estimate 80% of teachers here are on tourist visas. Until the government makes the process more streamlined this will continue to be the case and they are well aware of all the teachers working on tourist visas and will not not make any moves to deport said teachers. So no danger at this time.

      Simon Worden , don't forget that you're talking about a corrupted communist country. Nothing is formal, no clear and concrete laws. As long as there's money in the officials' pockets, they're happy and let you go.

    The information in this video is so outdated as to be completely useless now. For example it doesn't matter how long your tourist visa is now, from July 2020, everyone will have to leave and return ie do a visa run, every 30 days. So effectively that means if you come here and try to work on a DL visa (tourist visa) you'll probably end up out of pocket due to the expenses involved. And no longer will you be able to get a shonky business visa either. So the days of begpackers coming to Vietnam to teach for a few months are pretty much at an end.
