@@nmbmemphisbeast3690 MJ was hand-checked, arm-barred, and assaulted with hard fouls all on the regular. Were there ticky tack fouls called by the mid 90s? Definitely! Were they as ridiculously part of the game as they are today? Hell nah! Today there is hardly any fouling at all relative to decades past. Unfortunately that comes largely at the expense of tougher (more physical) defending. Even with less fouling today there are relatively more ticky tack calls.
Yes I agree 100% that’s what made their athletic feats so special. With out physicality it’s not as impressive. It’s like watching circus acts. Harlem Globetrotters and And1 mix tape. It’s entertaining but I don’t know how really good you are when you get hit in the jaw. I respect over seas players because their leagues are how the NBA used to play. That why Luka came over and scored so easily. Luka even said it.
Moving screens, carrying the ball, travelling, zone defence, no defence, no rebounders have all changed the game for the worse. Man to man defence was always for real players. Can you play both ends of the court and still put up 30 points. Todays players cant do it. Viewing figures are down for a reason.
My opinion on the matter. Travels and carrys are not called near enough which puts the defense at an even bigger disadvantage. You have the biggest and fastest athletes in the world and you allow them to stop and restart their dribble when they want? Give them an extra step when they already all a “gather” step. It’s ridiculous and takes away from the game. I get it, it’s the entertainment industry and no one wants to watch a ref blow the whistle but the rules are there for a reason.
They not as good as you think they face no defense or physicality...if we bring the 90' rules and physicality we could see who is actually skillful, it takes more skills to score on hard physical defense and when some 7ft waits for you in the paint than to score on no defense as todays players do.
The NBA is too soft the rules not allowing to play defense they removed all the physicality you cant touch anyone anymore, get back the handcheck and allow physicality the refs should not call it and get rid of the 3 sec rule on defense.

Only casuals say that players today don't play any defense, defense in the 90s and 80s was only played in the paint because of the lack of skill and shooting. In today's game, everyone is a threat to dribble, pass and shoot. Hence the easier buckets and spacing, Players today are just too good.

Change the draft lottery to favor tryers and not tankers. Give ping pongs to the teams that *just missed* the play-offs and you'll practically make every game more competitive.
The 2020s in essence the second coming of the 1970s, teams with high scoring offenses, three pointing was introduced in the 70s and nowadays it’s been “reintroduced” in the sense that 3 point shooting has boomed in the last couple years or so and that’s basically the way to score in the NBA. There’s so much parody in the NBA right now as well just like the 70s, no repeat champions in that decade and so far the last 6 seasons there’s been no repeat champions. Last few years the finals have had lower ratings and in the 70s, interest in the league wasnt in the best. The rules and league will change again in a few years, they’re for sure going to bring back defensive rules soon especially after Adam Silver looked pissed at the state of the NBA after the all star game, i expect the 2030s and 40s to potentially be the second coming of the 1980s and 1990s in a way
Great video. Today's athletes are better. But a slashing, tricky drive to the rim, or creating a middie jumper is still appealing to me. 4 players standing out at the three pt line is a bore. No wonder the Finals numbers are down.
He meant make it an equidistant semicircle like in FIBA, but with NBA distance. The corner 3 is like some weird hack where efficiency spikes where it would be just 2 points from anywhere else on the court at that distance.
It’s interesting to use analytics in some aspects. But I wouldn’t use it as the end all be all to build my team. Analytics can’t measure how good a fit someone is, or how predictable or unpredictable a scheme is. Also if you ask me, the more detailed analytics (such as against individual players, or on a matchup by matchup basis) are probably more informative than analytical formulas at their own surface level (which could include plays that aren’t relevant for your situation).
There are great international games like euro league or fiba, having defensive 3 seconds on a bigger court is good enough to boost offense, just allow defense and stop making stupid calls
The Euroleague could be a good place to look at too, seems like a whole other world of competition over there both between the players and the fans. European players like Luka themselves say it's harder to score over there

So if it aint broke dont fix it 💯
How high will scoring get before it becomes pointless and boring. Imagine a full season of games like the all star game. Fans won't be able to turn away quick enough.
You mean going 6-0 in the finals as the best player on the team? Given that superteams are more popular, something like that is almost impossible. If individual players teamed up in their primes more often like they have the last 15 years or so, then it’s possible that Jordan wouldn’t have had as near perfect a playoff career. No knock on him, but the game was different then in that regard. Let’s face it. And conversely if superteams never happened, maybe players in different eras could’ve challenged the 6-0 record. Stretches of team dominance, apart from the execution of the players and the team, comes down to the situation you find yourself in as well.
It would have to start by increasing the foul limit to maybe 8+. Players know that 2 fouls in a quarter you are pretty much benched the rest of the quarter.
