This series and channel provide by far is the most quality information per minute of anything available anywhere. So well done every video. Truly inspiring watching and soaking it in. Thanks! This is why I am immersed into this hobby.
Thank you very much for your kind words, I appreciate it! I work super hard on making the best videos I can so it's always nice to hear from subscribers. I just wish UA-cam would recommend my videos more cause it's hard to be seen in a sea of content out there. Yeah it's a wonderful hobby and I'm glad I found out about it. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel. Cheers!
5 cabs under my belt now. I've used KILZ 2 All-Purpose primer (white) as a base with Behr Ultra Semi-Gloss (black) top coat. All applied with an HVLP sprayer. Then wrapped with 3M vinyl (sides, front, apron, dmd panel, and back box sides). So far no issues at all with peeling and the cabs look great. Thanks for the great video as always WotW!
Thanks! Yeah if you take your time you can make these panels flawless.....that is until you start using it. Absolutely perfect finishes will show every little mark/scuff/fingerprint. Just go till you're happy with it, then enjoy it. Cheers!
My pleasure! Happy to share my knowledge and experience with ya guys! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Thanks for the support and the watch! Cheers!
This is such a fantastic series and so helpful. I love how you show the importance of cleaning up at the end of the video, too many youtubers skip those parts.
"Maybe it's me Bill.. but I swear when I left Friday I didn't see this black mist on the windows of this green car". But seriously, this series is fantastic with the level of detail you provide that goes above and beyond standard how to videos. Very well done and produced.
Bill's a knob and that's his car.....he doesn't work here anymore.....lol. yeah I hear ya about the over spray but it was actually pretty minimal. If it was a car I cared about, it would have gotten covered or better yet, a spray tent constructed. Thanks for the watch and I'm glad you are enjoying the series. Hopefully I earned your subscription today. Thanks for the watch and your support for the channel!
So nice of you, I try hard to make the very best videos I can so it's always nice to hear from subscribers. Thanks for your support for the channel and thanks for the watch!
Appreciate your support for the channel! I'm glad you found me too! If you deem me worthy, I'd really appreciate it if you could share out my channel on your social media so I can help more people. Cheers!
I used Aquacoat wood-filler then Shellac too under suggestion from a specialty woodworker store. I told them I was going to vinyl it. I haven't done the final paint job though. They said anything would stick to Shellac.
@@wayofthewrench none at all. The shellac provides a smooth glass like finish and I have had art work in the side of my TMNT machine for 2 years now not a single issue.
Yeah if there is something that you don't want to over spray on, ya gotta cover them up. These cars are on their last legs for sure so no worries. Literally nobody cares about a 1991 Ford Escort.....lol. thanks for the watch!
Thanks bud! Now more people can learn to be skilled too! Yeah it's almost there.....just wait for the vinyl! Thanks for the watch and supporting the channel!
havent watched your videos for a long time. It's nice to see that you are still going with the project, that you have fun and that you make us such awesome content. 😊
Yeah it's been a while now cause I took my sweet time building and filming the series. Each video seriously takes 20-40 hours to make/build/edit. Glad you are enjoying them. Cheers!
Looking good Emil :D Absolutely gave me flashbacks to my own spraying and sanding of my cab. I sealed the wood with wood filler before painting, but I am not sure it was absolutely necessary since I used high grade ply. For paint I used (way too many) spray cans which did a fantastic job, but since I put vinyl on it, it was probably once again way overkill ;) On the visible part on the inside I actually used semi glossy black vinyl, since I found it a bit stronger when taking the playfield TV in and out. Good luck going forward. So many new tables are waiting for you when you get it all assembled again :D
Lol...flashbacks. Sanding can do that. Yeah my cabinet grade ply was pretty smooth too. I could have spent some more time and done a couple more coats but I was really happy with the finish. Yeah I've got some catching up to do with 64 but and vpx 10.8 and the new pov. Plus the new tables...looking forward to trying Spongebob!
Perfect timing. I used Aquacoat to wood-fill. Then I used clear Shellac with a couple coats with light sanding in between. It feels like glass (and looks great) but I haven't done the paint job on it yet. - I can't decide. I have a Wagner electric, but I also have a good compressor. That DeVilbiss oil sprayer looked really smooth. Dang! I now want one of those. What would you prefer?
Sweet! Glad it's available for ya to finish your vpin! If I could pick, I would only use an hvlp spray gun for everything. The finish is way better and it's fast. Lots of overspray though. The Wagner is ok but it comes out chunkier even when you thin. Have fun and thanks for the watch!
Great work. And I’m about to spray my horse box so some great tips in here that’s transferable. The only issue I had was you spraying your garage doors with overspray. Dude 😮 😂
Horsebox? Yeah a little overspray on 40 year old bay doors in an autoshop ain't gonna bother me. I was actually thinking it would be cool to do some graffiti artwork on them to liven up the shop. Thanks for the watch!
@@wayofthewrench yeah I’ve never used spray gun before so set up tips about spray width on cardboard and clean up was handy thank you. I’m midway converting horsebox to a food trailer. Your garage doors looked so perfect that’s why I mentioned them. But if you plan to graffiti them anyway it doesn’t matter. Keep up the great content.
@@wayofthewrench I now have the knowledge to confidently prep and paint my cabinet when I finally get going on it. …also, I can now armchair review others paint jobs and judge them. Thanks for all you do, sir.
Thanks! Yeah it's a labour of love for sure....and you're never really done. I'm excited to upgrade vpx and get me some new tables too! Thanks for the watch!
Hmm maybe a good name for a UA-cam channel. " The Pinball Rabii" BTW, I used quite a bit from your channel to complete my table. I can't bare to pull mine down and paint it though. Because its made out of black formply, its semi acceptable for the moment.
If you had access to a pancake compressor and wanted to paint a cabinet , knowing that most spraying rigs need a lot more CFM and you did not want to spend more than $100 - $150 US, how would you proceed? Love watching this stuff, I just built a cabinet and finishing will be coming soon! As an alternative, ever heard of ebonizing wood? Any thought on that versus painting?
You could use the other 3 methods to paint instead (rollers, electric hvlp, or spray cans). Or you could rent a proper compressor. Or take the parts to someone to spray it. Remember almost everything gets covered by vinyl so really you're only worried about the front of the blackbox, back of blackbox and back of cabinet. I'm not sure about ebonized finishes, it's really just a preference of the look of it and whether vinyl art work will stick to it. Thanks for the watch, cheers!
Are you talking about the polyurethane paints or the modified latex ones? Anything latex scares me as they are prone to breathing and lifting vinyl. I'm not 100 percent sure about them but hopefully some builders can chime in here and let people know what water based paints work well with vinyl decals. Thanks for the watch!
Thanks! Yeah the wet sanding ensures a flat surface so the vinyl sticks and nothing shows through like bumps. It's a lot of work but hey, that's what makes it pop when you're done. Thanks for the watch! Cheers!
I just used Black MDF primer and sealer paint on mine with both roller and paintbrush. Honestly mine is just slapped together compared to your masterpiece.
I used $15 of top coat paint so I'm not worried. The whole project is overkill if you think about it..lol. I played on the floor with just the monitors for 8 months...lol. thanks for the watch!

I’ve been using Shellac. Get a nice one. Roll on, and sand smooth. Second coat. Sand.
Flat, and sealed. Cheap too.
I used Aquacoat wood-filler then Shellac too under suggestion from a specialty woodworker store. I told them I was going to vinyl it. I haven't done the final paint job though. They said anything would stick to Shellac.

Spraying paint near those cars made me nervous. lol. :)

Killz white primer, Behr black satin or a semi gloss is nice. Worked on my last cabinet. Decals are fine. Let it cure for a week as well.
Nice! Is that Behr an enamel or polyurethane or? Thanks for the watch!
Regular acrylic house paint.
Water based?
You bet, Water Based from Home Depot.
Yeah water based for the win!

Any thoughts on hybrid paints? I've seen them recommended a lot for cabinets (in general), but I don't know if they have issues with vinyl adhering

You looked 10 years younger once you switched to the wagner. Stick with that!
Lol, took me a second to figure out what you meant! Yeah it got hot in the Summer mid video, so the beard got whacked! Thanks for the watch.

Awesome work but all that work just to wet sand. Next time melamine :)

Nope, it's for big kids with lots of money. I agree though, it should be bigger.....maybe put a 75" OLED in it....lol
