I have to disagree with the statements "You have to expand your vocabulary", "you have to have a command of the English language" and statements similar to these. The reason is every time Dr. Lawson says this, it is like a picture flashing on a big screen in my mind that says Act 4:13 "Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men ..." Learning is great. I won't argue that. But to think for a minute that it is great learning of language that makes great preachers is anathema to the truth of God's word. Paul prayed that God would give him the words Eph 6:19 "and (pray) also for me, that words may be given to me ..." We get God's word inside of us. the Holy Spirit uses that to give us words to say that cannot be resisted (Acts 6:10). Not educated learning. There are great teachers and preachers of scripture and authors of books, I admire greatly and have learned a lot from, but every time they use language that is not common, I cringe. A person should not have to go to a dictionary to figure out what the preacher is saying.
The old saying " The Devil made me do it!" Has been changed by Calvinists to "God made you do it!" That wonderful loving Calvinist teacher John Piper said it best. QUOTE: "God . . . brings about all things in accordance with his will. In other words, it isn’t just that God manages to turn the evil aspects of our world to good for those who love him; it is rather that he himself brings about these evil aspects for his glory (see Ex. @-16; John 9:3) and his people’s good "(see Heb. 12:3-11; James 1:2-4). "This includes-as incredible and as unacceptable as it may currently seem-God’s having even brought about the Nazis’ brutality at Birkenau and Auschwitz as well as the terrible killings of Dennis Rader and even the sexual abuse of a young child . . RAPE OF CHILDREN......BROUGHT NAZIS .... KILLINGS.... Really John Piper! This is your god that plans the rape of children? " If you call yourself a Calvinist you must stand proud behind these statements! Did you know that this is what Calvinism endorses as your loving god? He's teaching a class how to preach expositionally, of course his own experience is what he has to draw on. He can give examples of how others preach, but not how they do their preparation. They are asking him questions about how he does it. I think he's doing great!

He can't teach how other people do it, as we can only see their results, not their method. He goes into a lot of detail, especially encouraged by the questions where his students are wanting his specific experience and ideas. Every teacher has to teach according to his own knowledge, skills, and experience. How else...?
