Could not agree more. I think he managed tact and respect without being deferential while also being firm pressing the right lines of questioning.
Ryan did not present himself well.

That was a bafflingly illogical, nonsensical interview by Ryan. Well done by Pyles for tactfully holding Ryan’s feet to the fire given Ryan’s incessant whining and rambling justifications since the end of NCAAs.

I like Tom a lot but he needs to improve his tweet reading comprehension and dial in his messaging a bit. Came across very imprecise heavy with insinuation.

That’s exactly what he did. Cael Sanderson, too. Curious if they took it as such, but that was precisely the insinuation. Very poor performance by Ryan.
Ryan tried taking over the interview by asking "what do you want out of it"... good for Pyles for sticking to the question(s). It took the coach 5 minutes until he actually answered a question...then this BS about blaming the media...what a piece of work. Those poor student-athletes. Then he tries throwing FLO under the bus because you try to report news. He was so defensive, it's obvious who's right here.

Bingo! The rules are there, they have just changed. Meanwhile during this interview Cael was off having lunch with someone with $ who loves PSU wrestling. After lunch he calls his next Messelbring and BAM +100 win at NCAA’s ‘2025.
I hope PSU absolutely mops the floor with OSU next year in their dual and tourney……and I’m not a PSU fan.
I think his issue was Flo’s reporting perhaps vaguely implying Ohio State was going after a bunch of kids without his athletes knowledge. Tom’s primarily concerned with the trust relationship between him and his athletes.
In other words, some of his athletes may have seen tweets or heard something that could cause them to question their coaches.
Tom Ryan seems like a block head...making issues that aren't there.........
Tom is butthurt that he lost by more than 100 points. I think he feels his current group of guys can make up the difference.

Christian handled this interview perfectly. He was respectful, but he didn’t shy away from asking tough questions. Tom Ryan said a whole lot of nothing.

I haven't even started watching this yet but I agree that CP is an absolute integral part of the show. I think he has great takes most of the time, too.

Fun fact: the UP was “gifted” to Michigan as a concession for our loss of the Toledo strip. Ben can have the UP if we can have the Toledo strip back ;)

internet has a lot to do with this. it's not just wrestling. It's musicians, day traders, entrepreneurs, etc... knowledge is power and kids get to see so much more which opens up belief levels.

Good, fair interview by CP and, let's be honest, not a great look by Tom Ryan who admitted: 1) some of his most successful wrestlers were transfers; 2) that he continues to actively pursue NIL transfers such as Messenbrink; 3) that he has an advantage over the majority of other programs because his employer has the largest booster network and arguably has the best wrestling facility in the country; and 4) that his team just lost by over 100 points that a team that "deserves an asterisks" because of NIL. Ryan came across as both whiny and holier than thou. Not a great look for a leader of men.
What the hell did we just listen to?
All these coaches that finished behind by a hundred points are asking themselves where they are lacking, but IMO, gives them carte blanc to spend more money to try and close the gap.
With a school the size of Ohio State and the budget they have, clearly it’s not the finances or financial commitment available, so what does it boil down to. Coaching, kids, facilities?
I like Tom, but he takes this holier than thou take sometimes that could be a turnoff to some kids.
Does anyone think we will ever hear the real truth about Sasso “Time/Place/Activities” of the shooting?
It was a shooting so an investigation was done by law enforcement. Sasso was not been charged with anything. Are you suggesting it was not just wrong place at the wrong time?
Correct….Clearly Sasso was familiar with the area, and THAT PARTICULAR SPOT by the store is known for high crime and drugs. It would be easy for a contributor to make it all go away. Plus, did anyone ever get an accurate description of the shooter.

The athletic department can’t pay NIL so it doesn’t matter that the AD is rich. Donors need to pay the athletes. And the football team donors just spent $25 mil in the off season to “win the offseason”. Donor fatigue is going to happen.
So you’ve never known an area of ANY town that was more seedy than another. Stop.

Nick Suriano can beat anyone if he comes correct. He is my dark horse in this ever loaded bracket. Probably the toughest bracket we have ever seen in usa trials history. Aguably harder than the olympics themselves.
Tom Ryan's professionalism & fire elevates college wrestling as a whole. His squad always brings toughness.
Yes….i watched how tough Kollin Moore was ranked #2 in the country getting quickly pinned by Bo Nickal.

Recruiting Rules must have changed. Donors in the past were not permitted to talk to prospective student athletes.
Seems what Tim Ryan is saying is the portal and NIL are promoting is win above all else and that the individual is most important. Teamwork and establishing healthy relationships is no longer relevant.
Of course everyone wants to win, individual sport or not, but sports reaches a great deal about unity. Seemingly, most programs can’t compete with the winner takes all and the individual reigns supreme.
I like and agree with what Coach Ryan said, individuals matter. Well, if it’s all about winning and going where the money is, it makes the people matter statement hard to believe.
Boosters remind me of lobbyist. Something screwy about ‘em.

In order to wrestleback in the past you had to lose to a semi-finalist.
Kasak's 16 of 19 points would not have counted.

Coaches should be focused on coaching!! Not how much money can we or do we have pay this guy to come here. I feel bad that the state of wrestling and college sports have come to this place.
When NIL first came about I felt the same way. But listening to guys like Tom Ryan is painful. An asterisk next to Penn State’s +100pt tourney win. Jughead Ryan just didn’t get it done to bring in Messelbring, Cael did……all while watching two of his “homegrown” guys win their fourth.
So kids shouldn’t profit off their likeness?
Schools collectively made Billions off athletes with hats, jerseys, games, and myriad of exploitation. Kids today should exploit it for every dime they can.
Exactly! Since NIL has been in effect, head coaches have had to put on multiple hats almost similar to different roles with pro sports like a GM, Marketing, Media guru. That’s why guys like Chip Kelly in football step down from head coaching positions into assistant and coordinator roles because what is being asked of head coaches is becoming a handful, and they would honestly rather focus on the sport that they’re coaching

Tom’s inferring that some teams that are better than his are cheating. Plain and simple he’s pointing at Penn St without actually pointing. He needs to pull up his bootstraps and try to compete. Quit whining!

He studies opponents. He knows Taylor. Spencer Lee is Unpredictable. Skill wise he is Incredible. Just gets tired if he is well rested no one stands a chance. I like Mason a lot. Tom definitely knows there is nothing he can do to compete with Penn State. Brands know this too. And he tried to say PSU wins because of their money. CP quickly shut that blasphemy down. Coach is better than this interview.

I enjoy FloWrestling. When will you add a woman to your discussion group? The presence of elite HS programs, women's NCAA wrestling, US international at junior and senior success, and the rise of UFC women's events all point to the expansion of the sport. Keep the videos coming.
I’m sure we’ll see some women contributors sooner than later. Hopefully.
