We can learn a lot from the past,
but we just can’t and must not “live” there.
If you’ve spent any time with me over the past few years, you know how important I believe forgiveness is to our mental health.
To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.

Remember, Forgiveness includes not only forgiving someone else, but maybe even forgiving yourself.
It honestly seems a little strange how we often let the past which we can’t do anything about, affect way too much of our present and future, which we do actually have at least some control over.
We all have a limited time on this earth,
don’t waste YOUR time living in the past.
As Will Rogers said;
"Don't let yesterday take up too much of today."

My stepfather, who's been my dad since I'm 4 years old (I'm 40 now), has exhibited major cognitive decline over the last 15 months or so and decided to ghost me since January 3rd, only to break the silence this week with a letter that he wants no contact with me any longer. With a clean heart I can say, that unless this is dementia, I do not understand why, and even at 40 I feel angry, hurt and abandoned. I needed these exact words of wisdom from a Dad today. So thank you for doing what you do. 🙏🏼

But since he passed away I realised that now it's only my problem and only my choice - to forgive and live better and easier, or to keep that awful feelings in my heart and continue to feel sorrow...

Good that you're trying. Look at each day as a fresh beginning and with a positive attitude. Sounds silly, but it can make a big difference. Perspective is everything. It really is. Take care.

Thanks Dad. Yesterday, I almost gave up on being good, and almost forgot how to forgive because of this unbearable pain from the wound in my heart that somebody had created. But I saw this channel randomly and this one video catch my eyes. Thank you for your words, now I can finally, slowly, start to forgive my past and live my present to shape my future. 🙂

What a wonderful sentiment to share with everyone. Young adults may not fully grasp the meaning of today's lesson just yet, but as time passes, they will. Us older viewers hear you loud and clear. Forgiveness is so hard (depending on the transgression against us), but without it, we remain angry and bitter. We only have a finite time on this Earth, so why continue to be angry and unhappy. Hi Dad from the Internet, I’ve just found you today and I think it’s a message from heaven, because I’m in such grief and a lot of anger this times, because I still can’t forgive my biological Father for not being a decent human to me, even tho my parents (sadly) never divorced and we still live together. I just needed to write it out, because I need to work on all that, so I can start to life live without such a burden. I’ll keep coming to this channel for sure, when I need a Dad or a reminder I’m not alone. Thank you for fixing hearts, you never broke❤❤

Forgiveness does not mean that you have give the perpetrator another chance to wrong you. Forgive & forget, forgive the person and forget the person. Forgiveness is about letting go for your own sake, not for the perpetrator's.
The woman I trusted for the past seven years tore me to shreds a few weeks ago. I want to forgive her but I can’t.

My question is not IF we should forgive, but HOW to forgive??
Maybe you can use this tip from something that worked for me when I was having the hardest time forgiving someone. I prayed 3 days a prayer asking God to give them what I most wanted for myself in my walk with Him and I tried to mean it in my heart as much as I could each time. I made sure to pray for different things each day and each day I could mean it in my heart a little more and felt relief from the anger a little more. The 3rd day I could mean it totally and not only felt total release from the anger but also a most powerful outpouring of love from God for me that I'll never forget. Years later when I think of the thing that made me so angry I can barely remember it happened much less be angry.
I wonder if you realize that to some of us older single women you're not a teaching dad but a good son. And I don't mind being called one of the kids in the least.
