What a simple but brilliant idea, thank you! Seriously, you just saved me from possibly frying my flight controller board on my drone I've been building for a week!!
That's an awesome idea, thanks for sharing with us! I never did like the braids either, and it seemed like tge flux would burn off too quickly anyway Good work.
I tried this a few years ago when just starting out soldering. Lasted 5 minutes. Steel Wool works much better but needs to be course and fast before it burns otherwise more flux is needed which can get messy. But it works Grrrreat
Thank you!!! But just an idea. Get a small fan to get the smoke away. But not put the wind to the circuit. Instead, out of it. You're blowing up air to the iron, possibly (if I saw understood well). In any case, thanks again for the amazing idea!
great vid. i have a digital soldering station where i can set the temp. what temp is good for desoldering? i think you mentioned using a 40 watt soldering iron. not sure what temp it reaches.
i always have trouble desoldering because i always burn up the hole where the lead goes into i might try this out cause im learning too mod a boss ds 1 :) thanks for the vid
I try it well it work but I think a desoldering pump is better.i might get it for my 21st my birthday is on December 20th next week Friday or I might wait till Christmas.

The main advantages are twofold; an effective emergency fix, and saves money! Thumbs up!
Best desoldering video and technique yet! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! Good to know I don't have to spend $300 on a desoldeing pump. Thanks for making this video
+RickyJ_Play anytime, thanks
Thanks for the instructions. Using copper speaker wire and flux worked like a charm for me!
I need to replace my Xbox HDMI tomorrow and I hope it goes smooth but these tips on your vids are awesome, thank you.

Old video but very helpfull thanks TampaTec.
Thanks for the video. Taking things that are meant for one thing and used for something else.
i've always preferred solder suckers but either way soldering/desoldering is a real art that takes practice.

Thank you for this!
good idea keep wire cutter besides to cut used wire apply little flux again it works.. by the way do not inhale the smoke :)
Is radioshack the only store that carries flux? I could only find plumbing flux at walmart and home depot, I don't know who else may carry it.
XeDragHD amazon
Well that's an online store, I meant a local store.
XeDragHD go to O'Riley's or an auto store. They will have it cheap, got mine today.
I like it bro, good work and good idea!!
Try dipping the wick into the flux and then desolder.. it works for me.. gets all the solder out..
Why didn't I think of this? Brilliant!
Pretty cool. Also try goot wick desolder braid, its a lot better than the radio shack stuff
great video, thanks a lot!
you have a very pleasant attitude :)
Thank you friend!
Nice video. Can you show the comparison in a future video of a solder sucker vs. braid?
i always have trouble desoldering because i always burn up the hole where the lead goes into i might try this out cause im learning too mod a boss ds 1 :) thanks for the vid
hi, can I use flux from home depot used for soldering copper pipe or do I need something different?
Not the same, flux for copper pipe is different has different chemists, use flux for electronics only.
really cool, thanks Tampa Tech!
Thank you 👍

Try putting a little fresh solder on the connection before wicking it.
true that does work, thanks for sharing that tip.
Dean Johnson do you mean trying to melt the solder from both sides of the pin?
Thank You For The Video
awesome video
thanks... good idea
Try using extra flux on desoldering bread too.
Nice tips bro
I have the same soldering iron bought it during the final days. Miss ours.......
superb
Your homemade version worked way better.
Nice job melting the board.
VERY LIKE :D
Im going to try it tomorrow and I burned my self by not being able to desolder a piece lol
Only thing Solder Wick is good for is ground straps for cars
WAY cheaper too. they were asking 6 euros for 1.5m at my diy store. i bought this for 4 euros and got 10m for it
