    I want to thank you for posting this. I was not having extraction problems, but ejection of the spent shell was a problem. It was sticking on the bolt face. I did some gentle work on the bolt face, in the area you illustrated, and my rifle is back to functioning normal. Saved me a big hassle.

    I've got a brand new Ruger PRF and the first time at the range I had a big failure to eject problem (more than 50% failures) - no failures to extract. I checked my bolt and it had the step on it where yours did. The surface beside the flat spring takes two cutter passes at a 90 deg. angle to one another to manufacture. However, this is no excuse. CNC machines have cutter offsets that allow the operator to tweak the settings. All you should see is a witness mark, not a step. I smoothed mine with a jeweler's file. I can't wait to get back to the range. Thank you for your video, it was exactly what I needed.

    Great video. I appreciate the steps being presented in recommended order and the excellent camera work to show users what they actually need to do.
    I brought some friends to a plinking range and my RPRimfire started having extraction problems. We pulled a bore snake through the rifle and the problem went away for a while. I had the same problem at the range today. Ended up pulling the bore snake through it on three occasions throughout the afternoon. (I will acknowledge that it's due for thorough cleaning.) I will also be inspecting my bolt for the defect.

    I just received my RPR and, of course per your video, I checked the bolt face for the issue you described. I'm happy to report that either your problem was a one off, or Ruger has identified and addressed the issue. The little shelf you identified does not exist on my bolt face. Thanks for the info.

      Thanks for the comment Mark! I'm glad your rifle doesn't have the issue. Just to be clear, I don't think the issue I'm showing in the video was happening on every rifle coming off the line, I think it was a defect probably happening randomly (who knows, maybe 1 in 100 rifles). This is just a guess based on people responding to me saying that their rifle is fine, I'm doing something wrong, etc. vs people telling me that they have the same issue.

    I havent shot my rpr much, specifically because of the extraction of the spent brass landing on the magazine, about 1 every mag. Super infuriating. Ive had it for about 3yrs. Just shaving that tiny bit of bolt shelf off has made it 100% so far after about 600rds. Literally hated this rifle and left it in my safe for all this time. I have now purchased a kyl target set, went to town polishing the bolt, bedded the action, and am thoroughly enjoying my rifle now. My wife is wondering how much money im gonna put into this rifle now. Thank you for this!

    Nice video! FYI - I just bought (December 2023) a new Ruger American rimfire and the "shelf" you refer to on the bolt does not exist. Apparently, either your gun was a manufacturing anomoly or Ruger has modified their bolt to address this issue.

    A point file for filing automotive points would work good to smooth that area on your bolt down that you used the stone on. Also did you notice that the back spring that you snapped back in place was getting damaged from hitting something somewhere? If that metal keeps getting hammered it will start to cut into your receiver.

    So glad you made this video.. Going to have to try this. My brand new ruger american 22 is the most unreliable gun I've ever had. The ruger wrangler I got along with it definitely has to go back. Shoots so far down and to the right it's unusable. Really bummed about how bad rugers quality has gotten. I'd trust something made by Taurus over Ruger at this point. 😩 😬

    Cleaned mine up and extracting fine. But that's unfired rounds,so???
    One thing I noticed....
    On the face of chamber/back of barrel there is a notch for the extractors to fit into, had a bit of gunk in there that scaped out with a pick .

    Ok first off the precision in ruger precision is just a name,its a $400 .22 and it's a fantastic rifle for the $,if you are having problems you need to bed the rifle with aluminum hvac tape there are videos how too on youtube,this rifle is definitely capable of 1/2 moa at 50 yards with the right ammo,sure it has it quirks but for $400 it's a damn nice gun for the $

    • @snwbmx1
      @snwbmx1  4 роки тому

      Thanks for your comment High Speed, haha definitely agree precision is just a name! It does seem like at least some people are getting excellent examples of Ruger Precision Rifles, not every single one is 1/2 MOA though. I tested more than 20 different varieties of ammo in mine and none of them could shoot less than 1 MOA at 50 yards. My best result was SK Rifle Match, 1.2 MOA @ 50 yards (I measure by shooting five different 5-shot groups at 50 yards and averaging the group sizes)
      I don't think every RPRR is bad quality, it seems to me like the quality varies a lot from gun to gun though.

    Having problems with my new RPRR in 17HMR. At first it would not eject and would come easy with a finger or using the action again.
    Now the casings are actually getting stuck in the chamber and you need a flathead or a knife to pry it out

    We have had great success with this rifle out of the box. However recently we are have failures when ejecting. We have watched the video and checked our bolt. We think our problem is the ejector spring clip. My buddy tried to different methods and notices that our bolt does not have the defect shoulder.

    Excellent video. Why are we the ones fixing these problems? How can the manufacturers not see such an obvious defect? How many times do we have to send the rifles back to them before their monkeys figure it out? Come on guys, keep it simple and then torture test your products before releasing them!! This video should be sent to Ruger and then they should pay you and hire you to troubleshoot their crappy products. Sometimes they make it hard to be loyal, I have exactly the same extractor problems with my American rimfire and don't get me started on the POS rotary mags for the Ruger American hunting rifles!!

    These rifles are anything but “precise “ I’ve had issues with mine along with most users that I’ve seen on forums. If it wasn’t my only bolt action 22 I’d get rid of it.

    • @snwbmx1
      @snwbmx1  5 років тому +2

      I certainly didn't feel like the manufacturing on mine was precise as I was working on it. But there are plenty of people out there who don't have issues, we tend to only hear from the ones who have a defect. It's a fun rifle when it's working right, it's just a bummer that there seem to be a fair number of duds escaping the Ruger factory.

    I recently tried (at the gun tore) a RPR in .17 HMR and I love the rifle but thought the bolt was a bit hard to push down. As you've made this video some time ago, I was wondering if yours loosened up a bit with time?

    • @snwbmx1
      @snwbmx1  4 роки тому +1

      The bolt on mine did loosen up over time, It was actually a really nice aspect of the gun. I switched to a Tikka T1x a while ago and while I like the reliability and accuracy of the Tikka more than the Ruger (at least the particular one that I had) I've got to say that the Tikka has a significantly stiffer bolt than the Ruger. The Tikka has smoother bolt movement as you slide it in and out, less chance of binding. The Ruger takes much less effort to close and open though, rotating the bolt handle up and down vs sliding it forward and back.

    My 22WMR American won’t extract after 50 or more rounds. I have to keep cleaning and polishing the camber lightly with Mother’s chrome polish. Not a fan of how easy the bolt lifts when catching on brush or my clothing when walking around small gsm hunting. It had about a 90% fail to fire rate out of the box. I took the bolt group apart and found a big sheared off chunk of metal inside along with it packed with thick black grease. Also the interior of the bolt group was extremely poorly machined. It looked like a caveman chiseled the firing pin using a rock. I files, stoned, and polished all the interior bolt group parts. Cleaned out all the nasty thick black grease, and reassembled along with using EWL lube. Works fine now but still sticks casings after 50 or so rounds still. Imo the reason the cases stick is it’s the design of the long thin 22 WMR cases. Just a bad case design.
