moved to philly 4 years ago. worked in the badlands for 5 months! my car got hit and run while parked 3x. i don’t miss it there, but i miss my fellow puerto rican community! i live in a different part of philly now
All the way club member here. You got some Stones on you Captain down there in the bad lands reporting on the front lines! Good work, keep doing your thing!
Ford had a car factory at Broad and Lehigh for a few years. It was the location of the Philco plant, which made, among I things, radios for Ford. But they made cars there for a few years in the '40s anf 50s.
Dear Police Captain, Finally, I am learning something. For thirty years, I took buses and trains to different schools and I wrote for the Philadelphia papers. I am living in Allentown, and I miss Philadelphia terribly. Somehow, it seeps into one's blood metaphorically that is-Philadelphia-even the difficult parts. I believe this is because one can see many types of people's sometimes creativities. Thank you for teaching the backgrounds of certain things. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, Melinda Aimee Roth
All the way club: Philly has such good bones and so much potential. Some of that graffiti is amazing. It sucks that the streets have so many potholes, so many of the stores are closed up, and the rampant drug crime.
all the way club abeit a year later . I love watching your videos. Life is so different in the USA than here in Australia. Your tours are very interesting.
Whenever you see people with grills at corners in North Philly, they are making "Pinchos!" --- kabobs The candles that were on that makeshift shelf were in remembrance of a young man who passed away. You actually went to the badlands on a good day. During the summer there are many fun activities, music, closed blocks, and pumps open. I was born and raised in the badlands and I loved it.
When I was a little kid we were getting off the subway there in Philly in the door had closed on my head and luckily the train didn’t leave some people were screaming and the door open and I was free and my mom had no idea until she was halfway down the damn subway steps
Interesting video. Some of the areas actually look pretty good. All cleaned up and then others look scary 😨. We, too, have out shady locations but I keep walking
You can be a nice yuppie neighborhood and then be in heart of a very violent bad area if you don't know where your going. And with the politically correct movement or whatever people wanna call it with our current mayor and Da. The crime is getting worse. It's a Shame because in all fairness Philly Pd is one of the best but with a lax District Attorney those brave men and women get looked at more like they are crinmals than criminals themselves. So now they at times stay back in fear of losing their job. It's really getting bad here
@@merncat3384 it's a Shame. New York City cleaned up their town. People who lived there and moved to Philly have even told me how they regret it. The area in these videos the " Badlands" it's the biggest open drug market on the east coast. The police can't do anything. And its not just drug selling. People die in the middle of the street from drugs. But not just that, violent crimes occur as well. Rapes, robbery's, revenge plots and of course the accidental overdoses that happen daily.

Nice to see you stroll by an area where I first grew up at, right off of 4th and Somerset sts. A lot of the houses there are empty lots now. The area there is called West Kensington. When you move further west after 5th st. You go into North Philly area. Not a good area to be walking around at. It's a good thing that you made it through with your scooter. Keep up the good work.
Was born and raised in the badlands. Two bedroom home with coal heat. I'm one of seven kids. Lived at 8th and Indiana. Brother went to St Boneventures. Shopped at 5th and Indiana. You wanna talk PTSD... 😆🤪😜 Went out to play in the summer at midnight to about 3 am. Mom would sit on the step and listen for gangs so we could run in the house. It was quieter in the middle of the night so you could hear them coming. Now they drive by .. saw such horrible things back then. 😔
All the way club cap, I think your childhood anxiety stems from the tennis courts at Monkiewicz playground, and the fear of hitting a ball onto the 95 off ramp and causing a 10 car pileup
Back in the 60's and 70's we rode our bikes all through these areas without no problems. We could park our bikes in front of a corner store and go in for a drink/snack. I don't remember bottled wudder so much then. Grandparents from both side as well as aunts and uncles lived on 3100 blk of Custer street, 3100 Weymouth St., 727 Clearfield St. (vacant lot now),. Other relatives lived near Kensington and Thayer St., Frankford and Pacific St., Richmond and Indiana St. We played halfies in parking lot across from Russell Conwell school and hardball at Franklin playground, went ice skating at Scanlon. Christmas shopping on the avenue was great back then.
All the way club! Thanks for the trip through and those murals. These videos are so fun. I remember that that EL turn. And I didn't know that that pet shop has been torn down. Also, that area looks like it getting a lot better. 🍁

All the way club. I enjoy seeing places that I would not travel to myself and your running commentary. Some of those houses were really nice that you scooted by in this video. As for the el, I was always afraid of being pushed off the platform waiting for the el at the 34th St. stop.
@5:30 yea alot of them blocks are nice and quiet until someone jumps out a alley with a hand cannon or spins the corner with an assault rifle but in between the bullshit most them blocks ain't bad🤷🏻 and try get someone do that with the bricks now and days they gone charge thousands
I used to celebrate 420 and drive around looking at the graffiti murals when I was younger. Some of that work is amazing especially knowing it was done with cans of spray paint.
5th and Indiana used to be bad then it moved to Clearfield or sometimes Cambrianthat area right there around those 3 blocks has been notorious for drug sales for a while but it all changes all the time.
Lived at 6th& Indiana from '37 to '61...house still there....grandparents at 2910 n 7th st....3 storey...demolished...as was Brenuenger (sp?) dairy at 7th & Indiana....
I worked in a Auto Parts Warehouse at 18th and Indiana Ave's when I got out of High School over the Summer in 1965, It was scary back then, Looked Like someplace in Soviet Bulgaria, wonder what it looks like now, The building had no windows

What is wrong with the city officials in Philadelphia? I love the history of Philadelphia, but where’s the respect for taking care of what once was a beautiful, historic city? I moved from Philadelphia in 1959, and the homes were pristine, and residents took pride in their homes and neighborhoods. I worked and retired from the University of Florida School of Medicine, and I remember when the federal government stopped funding after care for mental health patients. One of the things the chairman of Psychiatry said was our society will diminish because of losing support for the mental outpatients. It’s happened. Why would any company build condos and get away with $300,000+ prices in this area? I’m in Florida, and it would never work like that. As a matter of fact, it’s been my experience with people I know very well all over Florida, and the cities quietly demolish those neighborhoods. The people who cannot afford to buy, they get put into nice apartments through HUD. Seriously, there are multimillion dollar homes, but there are also gorgeous homes on really nice size land to build in ground pools, patios, etc. that would not be priced quite that high. It’s our laws in Florida, but trash or junk in a yard will result in fines and people can lose their property if not paid and cleaned up fast.
Philly is a city of contrasts, you can go from urban crime ridden ghettos to nice suburban like neighborhoods all without even leaving the city.
It's like the in a lot of major cities
Thin line between Heaven and here…
@moabite sounds You just named bad areas. The places I am talking about are in the NE and NW Philly.

Talk about living under a rock I can tell u don’t get out much or leave your own backyard 💀
People from south Philly never leave south Philly, this comment proves
My point . The city is much larger than your neighborhood

The different colored bricks by the windows are keystones.
