  • We're taking the Trail Rated 2019 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk off-road to see how this subcompact crossover handles terrain usually suited for proper Jeep SUVs.
    PRN T-Shirts now available! Check out our original designs here: teespring.com/stores/prn
    Our episode of TestDrive Spotlight on the 2019 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk is a comprehensive tour and review of this subcompact crossover, going over the new changes for the facelift 2019 Renegade and what the new Trailhawk trim adds to this vehicle. We go over the exterior features and packages optioned on this specific vehicle, and go over the interior design and layout along with the features found on this Jeep.
    We then take the Renegade Trailhawk off-road to see what this vehicle is capable of, as Jeep's smallest crossover, a shift away from the traditional SUVs they've become known for. We take the Renegade onto sand, dirt, and grass, along with some thicker bush and rockier trails to see how it performs with it's 4WD system and selectable 4WD Low, 4WD Lock, and low speed crawl modes.
    We wrap up our full tour and review of the 2019 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk with our likes and dislikes about this vehicle and what you can expect if you're in the market for the most affordable Jeep product to date.

    Trail rated means it completed their offroad course which while not super intense, still checks off a decent amount of boxes. The biggest two being water fording and hill decent control on gravel/mud. Fun fact the RAM rebel and powerwagon also have to complete the course, even though they don't get a trail rated badge.
    Also the low range is just the vehicle locking you to first gear, there is no actual transfer case.

      TFLcar did a great little video on this on FCA's off-road proving grounds last week, I watched it after uploading this video. Those RAM Rebel/Power Wagons would be a lot of fun to take through that course, especially since there's no worry about getting stuck like I have to when filming something like this.

    You mentioned @ 2:45 that towing is not recommended with the 1.3L Engine. Are you sure about that? Jeep.com (in the US) says towing is rated at 2,000 lb's for the Trailhawk (and all 2019 Renegade's.) Is that a Canada recommendation only?

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  4 роки тому

      Seems to be. FCA’s Canadian Media website is where we get all our info for these vehicles, their media packet specified no towing on this specific configuration.

    • @luchaDor
      @luchaDor 4 роки тому +1

      @@PRNTestDrive Yep, understood, the old 1.4L Turbo had a 'towing not recommended' in the US from what I remember. Hmm...jeep.ca shows 2,000 lbs as well, provided the trailer tow group is installed. (I'm not trying to argue btw, I was just curious what/why a Canada spec'd Renegade would be different.)

    • @PRNTestDrive
      @PRNTestDrive  4 роки тому

      This regional difference came up with the Kia Niro also, in Europe either the EV or PHEV has a tow rating of about 1,500 lbs, whereas here in N/A (or specifically just Canada) it's not recommended. Here's the press kit for the Renegade on FCA's N/A site: media.fcanorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=20120&mid=444
      What's interesting is the press kit & specifications document for the 2020 Renegade list the 1.3L with a 2,000 lb tow rating, but not for FWD models.

    Have had my 2016 for a couple of years now, and have done plenty of off-roading. You guys like to crap on it and say it is a Fiat, but seriously, have you driven one off-road? No, it isn't going to do that axl-stretch thing over huge boulders but it is a VERY capable off-roader. I have taken mine through some insane features while my wrangler buddies just stood to the side, shaking heads side to side. It will do it. Of course, you put a bad driver behind the wheel, and any vehicle is SOL.

      Yeah I won't waste my time replying to that. As we always say to commenters when they come around looking for videos on cars they've already bought: enjoy your Renegade, don't worry about what other people think about it. If you like it, that should be all that matters to you.

      That's a great way of looking at it, I spotted a few Renegades out on the road when I had this one, some bought by consumers who just wanted a cutesy crossover, but some seemed to be hardcore Jeep enthusiasts who either wanted something new/different or a second Jeep.

    • @luchaDor

      Jeep literally calls it the 'Gateway Drug to the Wrangler'...which is a great way to think about it. Get young folks in a Jeep, as they gain more spendable income they'll move up. There are so many that have done exactly that...so I believe its working.

    almost same price in € in Italy for top trim sport instead of trailhawk.
    the most popular small suv in Italy, but of course the most popular engine here is the 1.6 turbodiesel fwd, DCT transmission optional, 9AT only for awd models, this and the 2.0 turbodiesel.
    a drawback of this car is the poor aerodynamic, at 130 km/h standard highway speed consumption and noise are not good at all, but at canadian speed limit certanly not a problem.

      If you're talking about where we drove this, it appears to be for ATVs & 4x4s, not so much Jeep Renegades. We're also pretty limited with where we can film as there aren't any public off-road courses in this area, and if we get stuck somewhere here we're on our own and seriously stuck.

    Really sad to see people driving these things around thinking they have a "trail rig" that can hang with Wranglers and 4Runners and trucks etc. Almost as bad as the Subaru people who think they have a real 4x4. If you really want to go off road, then buy a real 4x4. If you don't want to go off road, then get a normal car and avoid these unreliable, depreciating, cheaply made POS crossovers. Simple as that.
