    How GLORIOUS were these ancient people. We descend from true greatness and beauty and achievement.
    This arch gives me a sense of triumph 2000 years later. What a spectacular masterpiece

    Just amazing ! That's why I love my native language (Portuguese), as It connects us straight to antiquity: FORTISSIMO PRINCIPI is almost exactly the way we would write it today, by just one vowel (replace the final "I" by "E"). It means "MOST STRONG PRINCE"

    How does the use of vehicles and other pollution effect the ancient and not-so-ancient structures? Thank you for the large collection of amazing videos of the Roman Empire.

    Enjoying your videos, and have a request (coming from a successful UA-cam-er myself) please let the camera linger on details a couple of seconds longer, and move it slower as you move around, will make a big difference. Thanks.

    Trajan's deification scene (at 8:10) shows him being crowned by someone with WINGS. Not a common feature of Roman gods, I had thought. So who is that supposed to be?

    • @kitharoidos1089
      @kitharoidos1089 Рік тому +5

      That's Trajan being crowned with a laurel wreath by a winged Nike/Victoria. A pretty standard depiction.

    Just my opinion: Trajan's arch gives us a clearer impression of how the Arch of Titus looked when erected than the few remains we have left today.

    Was it originally multi-colored? Has anyone tried reconstructing what it would have looked like with paint?

    • @AncientRomeLive
      @AncientRomeLive  Рік тому +1

      Yes the reliefs would have been painted, just like the statuary. We haven't seen a reconstruction with color on this arch. But there have been a series of exhibits around the world (Berlin, Rome, and most recently at the MET) that focus on the original color on ancient statuary.
