INFO: Mac DeMarco is a Canadian singer-songwriter born on April 30, 1990. Ever since he released his first full-length studio album in 2012, he’s quickly built the reputation for being the king of modern indie-rock and jangle-pop. In total, Mac’s released three studio albums and two mini-LPs. And with those releases he helped indie rock become even more popular. He’s shown what it’s possible to achieve with a reel-to-reel recorder and a cheap guitar in your bedroom.But this video is not going to be about Mac’s production process, sound or position in the music industry although those could be a fairly interesting topics to tackle as well. In this one we’ll have a look at his lyrical development.

I feel like Mac doesn’t get enough credit for how good he is at writing love songs about the rewards of a monogamous relationship with a girl from a young age over a long period of time , growing into “ adults “ and how a woman needs reassurance that you’re still in love with her because most men and woman express love in different ways.
The songs : Still Together , Still Beating , and K
are excellent examples of this .
Real “Tear jerkers “
Mac was actually interviewed about a week ago and spoke about how his contract with his record label forced him into the image of the "walking talking cigarette" he was for his first couple projects. The shift in persona is a result of him now producing through his own label, allowing him to do what he actually wants instead of following the image crafted for him by the label.

Mac's the only artist I can say I really am a fan of, in all the stuff I've listened to over the years
I dig the idea of the video, but it looks like you just read his wiki and watched a few videos about him and created this video. actually read and go more into depth with his lyrics... you literally show one line per song that doesn't add up to much beyond what's already readily known. really this video is more about his topical transformation than lyrical transformation

I like his now serious approach to lyrics. It's tonally darker and a good change for a growing artist.

Mac is one of my favorite modern artists
One major thing you overlooked, and I suspect a lot of peopel are guilty of this, is the fact that song writers like Mac evolve much faster than we think in relation to their music, and not always as linear. A lot of songs Mac has written on newer albums were songs/lyrics/ideas that he had created years prior, when we were all still getting new to 'Salad Days' and '2'. It molding an album around the vast repertoire of songs you have and creating a similar theme to carry throughout the album.

Chamber of Reflection's meaning is clear no? Is it not the room a man sits in to reflect on his own, before becoming a freemason? hence the, "soon you'll run with better men" "getting ready for the day your born again" "when you leave here, you''ll be clear among the better men" like it's pretty obvious what this songs about. His grandfather was also a very high ranking mason, I also think Mac might be one too
The vagueness in the lyrics make it great, because it's vague but also obvious what it is, if ya know what ya know, but google helps too.

His new album was alright , I was sorta disappointed I didn't dislike it cause macs a fucking sexy beast but I just kinda felt as if he's tired so it came out a bit in alot of his songs on the new album i may be completely wrong but im not sure what I expected , it was good to relax to but I wasn't dancing like I did when 2 or salad days came out but I guess he's settled down with age
