I think the best option within 5 years will be a self sustainable boat.
This guy thinks mega-yacht.
Boat + seasteaded under water rig in its own jurisdiction and you've got yourself an amazing deal. Wanna build a community?
Correct !
Makes sense tbh
I watch the older movie Waterworld every few years and think, man that would be awesome lol!
I would love to hear more about Italy. Thank you Andrew - Love this channel. Plotting to leave Canada.
I saw somewhere that Italy is offering money for people to move there to the small towns manily in the south.
@@LoneWolf-qk9pl Appreciate your reply. Why would that be?
You must wait until the next election to consider an investment..
@@bman2351why is that?
Lori, check the latest news, high chance of social unrest in Italy right now. Big cities are better to stay away from and even in small towns you have to "show papers" in most places. Better to have contacts in place.
Perhaps it was already done, but it would be nice to make a video on
"warm weathered countries with low taxes and good quality of life"
That would be very interesting to watch and take notes from
??????
Andrew forgot to hate on Spain at number 16 :D
In my part of Denmark we have some of the worlds best drinking water, nice beaches and forests and less than an hour to Copenhagen, where some of the best restaurants in the World are located. You dont need security personel. When entering Denmark your assets are measured. So if you have bitcoins or stocks and are leaving a country without exit tax, you can sell your assets while living in Denmark and only pay tax on the gains won after moving to the country. Tax on salaries for foreigners is a flat rate of 32 pct.
Spent a month in Malaysia in 1999 a totally awesome country! Lots to see and do. Next door to other interesting countries. English speaking. Amazing food.
malaysia is boooring
Portugal is nice but is rapidly becoming a hellhole, take it from a Portuguese, this was freedom beauty and wealth in the 90s
Why? Can you explain?
Explain why please. I've great things about it.
Tell us about Croatia...
They list Canberra and Adelaide as the top 2 QoL cities. I don't know what the folks at Numbeo are smoking.
After the last year you can bet most people will never look at Australia again
I’m Australian too but I don’t agree entirely, I don’t agree with us closing our borders to our own citizens overseas that’s just unAustralian nor the badly handled rollout of vaccinations. I don’t agree with our tax system it needs an overhaul and yes we are a bit of a nanny state however I am glad that I live in Australia during this pandemic. I understand it’s not the best place for high income earners or entrepreneurs but nowhere is perfect.
To be clear, if it weren't for the extremely strict lockdown policies, I'd have an entirely different opinion.
Hope things change for you guys, you don't deserve to be treated in such a way!
@@metalguru5226 lol true but as a 5-figure income earner middle aged female I get treated best in Australia then I would anywhere else in the world at this point in time. I hope to live overseas at some point soon but it will have to be to a EU country or the UK as I wouldn’t be treated best in Asia or Eastern Europe as woman and a woman of low means at that.
@@metalguru5226 not sure if we have a reciprocal Medicare agreement with India, I don’t think so with Cambodia but I definitely want to be somewhere that I can get away without having to try and get private health insurance

Could you please talk more about Cyprus and UAE options
I felt a little unsafe in Turkey surprisingly
I don’t think tax rates will matter much when the government comes for you for disobeying their c*vid rules. This is the most pressing issue of today, no matter where you live. I’d like to see more mention of each country’s level of totalitarianism surrounding this topic. I get that censorship is very real, but can’t you just sneak in some tips on the issue, somehow?
You'd think that. But it actually matters. Look at Ukraine, Bulgaria etc. Very low tax rates, very low government income => very small amount of police & other security forces. Nobody to enforce any coshit rules. They live freely. Problem is now EU started giving additional funding so that they expand their police force.
This is what I am always looking out for.
That quality of life index is full of bs now given COVID
I always enjoy what you have to say. I don't care what the haters in the comments sections say. You seem well traveled and well educated and well cultured.
would love to hear more about cyprus
It’s pricey!
No mention of France?
if you want to avoid paying taxes don't go to Canada
Hey Andrew what's your overall opinion of Seychelles?
Italy❤️
How about Channel Islands (Guernsey) or Isle of man as a "back door" into England? With a tax cap & local authorities keen on preserving competitive tax regime? Plus Channel islands a hop & a skip away from France and with great airport access to all over Europe including Canaries & Madeira?
You can make your own quality of life in any country
Alternatively simply arrive illegally on a dinghy to the UK and you automatically qualify for a 4 star hotel, free meals and weekly spending money, all courtesy of the UK tax payer fact!
@@cryptocrusader6078 Shit dude I am renouncing my British passport when I cross the channel on a day trip to France, to then jump on a dinghy to the UK for an easy life..
You’re not wrong!
I see so far after the video with Roger ver you havent talked about Saint Kitts as one of tax haven places. Unless I missed a video of you briefly talking about it.
12 years ago, I moved from Lyon, France to Geneva, Switzerland. I made 3 times more money but everything cost 3 times more. With double taxation, it is not worth it. Some countries have bilateral tax laws. You still have to pay taxes in your country of origin. Look up the tax laws before moving or contact an expert who deals with such matters. Some places are just too boring!!! Avoid Belgium and Luxembourg at all costs.
EDIT: My Belgian bank CBC froze my account for "lack of activity" and my French bank Societe Generale forced me to close my account because they stopped accepting "foreign funds". I think it might have to do with "terrorism".
I'm in France but tax costs too high to live, I'm a 4 figure millionaire (known as a "go-figure" lol) but the principles still apply. Off to South Morocco, massive opportunities for investment right now.
@@naillijseer France is very beautiful but they hate rich people with a passion. National sport over there. South Morocco as in Western Sahara or Agadir or Las Palmas (technically Spanish)? Sounds like you must've done something wrong...
Also Geneva is known for having the worst taxes in Switzerland. All the French speaking areas are.
@@Snakebloke Something wrong? Please elaborate on that. I did nothing illegal and I quit to work for myself
@@rameses1979 Why did you move to Geneva ??? The highest tax canton in Switzerland? You didn’t even look at Fribourg for example? I agree with Snakebloke. The canton of Geneva has the highest taxes in Switzerland and you still decided to move there 🤦♂️. 40% income tax and 1% wealth tax will make no difference. Effective rate will be as high as some EU countries.
Personally, and I've been looking at this for a while now, I like the UAE the most. Relatively simple and inexpensive to setup residency. If you have some cash, you can make it work. Ideally, you have plenty of money so that you can afford to spend about 3 months of the year away from the UAE in summer 🤣
Monaco didn't make the list??
We are NOT part of ANY list! We're in a class by ourselves.
There’s nothing to do. Very repetitive and superficial
What were the criteria used to create the list?
It is self reporting by the people who live there, using Numbeo's critera
I think it’s based on the total number of ratings rather than the rating itself. I’m not completely sure though
The Netherlands is too boring. Don't recommend it.
@Ray Nope! They can't & will NOT f*ck! Too many crazies!
You seem to turn a blind eye to oppressive laws in many countries against LGBT people. I’m financially well off and gay. No way that the UAE, Malaysia, Turkey, most of Eastern Europe, etc. are viable options. It would be helpful if your assessment of a country’s attractiveness for expats or retirees would include a social element.
As to quality of life, what are the categories, who does the rankings, how are each weighted, etc. most seen like opinion that can easily be “bought”. So with current media lying, how can we believe what is being “sold”? What things do we count most important? What does everyone want from their government, protect me, get out of my pocket, leave me alone, and let me live? What does every government want, the opposite? So I would measure countries by that standard, and some high on the list might fall greatly, mightn’t they? And another criteria might be which direction they are headed. Venezuela was 25 years ago the wealthiest country in South America, look at Singapore or Dubai 25 years ago. Some of these high on the list we may be thankful we escaped from?
John DeLorean went to Ireland to build the aptly named DeLorean, I believe the only car ever built there if Im not mistaken.
What about Thailand? I've heard there is 0% tax if you get a retirement visa and seems a fantastic quality of life if you're independently wealthy.
The Thai’s hate foreigners. Has the highest death rate for Brits abroad in the world. Do some digging.
@@VoiceOfThe Spain has the highest death rate for Brits abroad in the world, although I acknowledge Thailand has the highest rate of deaths for British tourists, with the main cause being motorbike accidents (probably not wearing a helmet as not required by law).
@@grahamlaurie
As a percentage Thailand is ahead of Spain when you take into account how many Brits go to each. Many deaths indeed are rta’s, but, there’s also many that are very suspicious that the corrupt police put down as suicide.
Switzerland is by far the most expensive country in the world. And healthcare is up to you to pay. You will not save money with flat tax there since you will put it in everything else. Don't be fooled. UAE is better in that respect with no tax and way less expensive to live.
@@Timithos Where is more expensive then?

I repeatedly say that people should migrate to the countries where their own race and religion is dominant or else passive oppression is what one shall face over a matter of time.
UAE is amazing country
Quality of life is like looking for a bf or gf, everyone is looking for something different. I know as a 6 or 7 figure entrepreneur, you will be sheltered from a lot of rifraf, but you see personal freedoms curbed in the west, liberals becoming more tolerant towards violent crime and it slowly inching up, liberals loving to tax, think 60’s and 70’s dumpster fire for some western countries had is coming back
PS. I am actually curious what will become of Portugal in 10-20 years time, with them legalizing pretty much every drug, it’s usually boon at first and expensive issues later
Can we stop focusing on tax so much. Sure its a consideration, but I'd rather pay more money and go "where I'm treated best". I just want to enjoy my wealth in peace.
Singapore aside, tax rate is highly correlated with authoritarianism/quasi-socialism.
So well said. I’m planning to live in the Mediterranean region. I know the taxes are high but I’m more interested in the quality of lifestyle. The food the entertainment the pace of life the environment (beaches) the culture the people the climate. Sometimes it’s more than just about tax savings.
owning the right real estate you can even live tax free in nyc, if you plan everything with the right cpa ....

You sound like a Cyprus or Malta kind of guy. Not for me though, I don't like their landscapes.
I totally agree with Andrew, I HATE these lists. Australia #5?!? Sure, if you're ok with not doing anything and limited to 2km travel from your house. And not "being allowed" to leave the continent, ever.
Yeah! Most parts of Australia struggled through less than 9 days of lockdown for all of 2021! Ohh the oppression must have been unbearable. And now, with one of the world's lowest death rates, Australians have to spend Christmas with their fully-vaccinated, alive and kicking grandparents! Ohhhh the pain!

Australia is becoming a totalitarian state. Am leaving in 2 mths.
I would like a country with freedom but I guess nobody gives a shit about that nowadays
And with the CV compliance? We need metrics for this; i consider all of this with a grain of salt as the world is no longer what it was pre-2020. New slogan should be - "go where youre treated best as a freedom loving individual"
Andrew's videos made sense before the pandemic restrictions began. Places like FL and TX in USA are more free than pretty much any other country in the world. If you have info on another free place where draconian restrictions like masks, vaccinations and lockdown mandates- do not exist, please reply here.

If you think Singapore should be higher, I'd love to see you do a response video to Polymatter's "World's most successful dictatorship" video on Singapore.
Freedom to control your own private property matters (housing heavily based on demographics by gov + cars nearly impossible to own + gov fixes houses slower if you voted against the single controlling party). There's more to culture than GDP per capita.

As a local that's born and raised here, I second this ^^ Most of my relatives have migrated to neighbouring countries such as Australia in search of better factors in relation to what you've mentioned.
I'm not keen to renouncing my citizenship (as dual citizenship is not allowed here) as I've pretty much given 2 years of my young adulthood to mandatory conscription service - so I'm looking towards building flags in countries of interest via PR/residency instead.

Andrew, you need to stop paying attention to these lists because it appears to me that they are BADLY LACKING.

You need to be canton specific when you talk about Swiss taxation, imHo. Taxation in the canton of Geneva is actually quite high, up to 40% + wealth tax and high soc sec, medical but you get the services you pay for so no criticism implied or intended. The canton of Schaffhausen or Zug are likely to be far more negotiable in terms of paying a flat tax but the notion that Switzerland generally is a 'tax haven' is no longer accurate.

Personal freedom and covid restrictions should factor in much higher in these considerations.
would you talk about URUGUAY?
Estonia… really u must have a look around ….. Georgia … yes correct…
Since a lot of those in the comments keep asking for a list of nations that are mostly free of these.... 'restrictions' (you know what I mean), here is my personal list, having traveled multiple times across the world in the last 16 months, hitting up 5 continents along the way. Below are my top 3 picks, and I have personally been to and been living in these countries during this time.
1. Mexico - Remains the best possible choice for high freedoms, good quality of life, amazing food, kind people, little language barrier, relatively affordable outside of major tourist centers.
2. Serbia - Only country on mainland Europe that has remained very free from the restrictions. Great culture, safe, and affordable.
3. Tanzania - No restrictions, because the 'flu' doesn't exist here, at least it didn't in the eyes of the great, late (see: murdered) President Magavuli. Regardless, the country has no restrictions, but high corruption, prices, and overall difficulty of life makes Tanz a hard place to move to, unless as a last ditch escape from civilization lol
I would have to give Georgia and Turkey also honorable mentions, as for the most part people are very relaxed in the country about 'restrictions' - however I can't fully add them to the list, because they have wavered at times, imposing lockdowns and mask fines during various times, and even as they are both open (for now), there is no way of knowing if this will continue. Hopes this helps some of you, stay strong, stay united, stay smart. Peace.
I like your list, sir
Forgive my naïveté: What is meant by "restrictions"?
I had wanted to retire in Penang, Malaysia having visited over the years. Really love the country and the people. However what I have heard from friends there and read in the papers COVID and the EMCO have been a totalitarian push by a government as corrupt as in the US. People cannot go anywhere without permission. Many are now hungry and have no jobs. Very sad.
Recently left Malaysia (KL). Definitely a lot more restrictive in terms of lockdown measures and many are indeed suffering (starving people putting up white flags).
Hoping they can open up in 2022 again.
Yeah, although I’m not at the stage where I’m retiring permanently in any one location, I was set on spending the Winter in Bali, but, hearing about a ridiculous mask mandate outdoors and their general stance on the virus has made me reconsider. They’re still in lockdown now nearly 18 months later. Trouble is, where do you go if you want some warm weather November - April, where restrictions are more relaxed?

How do you feel about Spain? People with Latin American parents, or parents from several other countries, can easily get their parents’ nationality and be eligible to apply for Spanish citizenship in 2 years. They could get into Spain using the non-lucrative visa, which seems to be the easiest and fastest one to get, provided that you have a certain amount of money in the bank. I really like the weather in Spain, especially in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It seems to have Southern California weather at a fraction of the cost.
People from the Philippines can also get citizenship in Spain within two years. This is important for Filipino OFWs to consider if they're looking to relocate their kids etc and set up a life abroad.

Still havent figured out how you make money. Buying houses in diferent countries and leaving them empty sounds like a bad plan. Your perspective....millionaire....has many more options and less appeal to a boots on the ground rock kicker like me. Dubai sucks unless your happy in malls and shopping.I like countries that treat there bottom 90% the best, not the wealthy.
@Sukrit Sabhlok Thanks, theres much to dislike about US but its hypocritical to recommend a country with same problems (police state, corruption, human rights, high taxes, etc) based solely on favorable tax laws for millionaires. This is advice for millionaires and may not be of use for people of lesser means.
@@SuperheroArmorychannel I would do the same but I suspect he has lots money so why bother
Different countries have different definitions of quality of life. For instance, good affordable public transportation, universal healthcare, affordable education, public safety etc maybe important factors in Europe and developed Asia but in the U.S 2,700 sqft home, Ford F150 pickup truck and dazzling fake white teeth are the indicators of good quality of life. All very different.

Andrew - It is possible to grab all the raw data and import it into excel where you can crunch the numbers to fit various personal situations. For example, as someone looking for a country to retire to, I deleted the traffic commute time column and the property price to income ratio column. I then deleted the overall QOL score and created a new formula to calculate a new "personal QOL" score. The new formula weighs health care, cost of living and safety higher than pollution. Finally, sort data based on final "personal QOL" score. Other things you can do is sort on safety, then decide what level of safety is personally acceptable and delete all places that fail that test. Same can be done for health care, etc. I've come up with an excellent "short list" of countries that "tick all the boxes" by simple data filtering this way.
