If you like Country Folk music there is no better modern artist than Benjamin Tod... He too many phenomenal songs to even begin to start listing them, both solo and with his wife in their band Lost Dog Street Band. Would love to see your reaction to some of their music! Here is a great place to start if you are interested, it's such a BEAUTIFUL song called "Fall From Grace".

I would recommend reacting to Despacito in 26 styles made by Anthony Vincent that is if you like mashup style songs
One of my favorite John Denver songs is "Poems, Prayers, and Promises". Don't miss it.
Well, you know you are doing well when I had to remove a scammer impersonating you. They are using telegram. FYI
The line "fire in the sky" is in reference to having watched a meteor shower while camping out under the stars with his wife. I love your reactions and you are correct, John Denver is a national treasure and no one better captured the beauty of nature.
Colorado resident here Andre. John was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell, New Mexico. He was known for his love of his adopted state Colorado (Denver is the state capital and largest city), and lived in Aspen Colorado for much of his life. In 1974, he was named 'poet laureate' of the state. The Colorado state legislature adopted "Rocky Mountain High" as one of its two state songs in 2007, and West Virginia did the same for "Take Me Home, Country Roads" in 2014. He is considered one of the most beloved American recording artists...
Re: "I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly" part of the song. The American Bald Eagle was considered "endangered" at the time when He wrote this song. We almost lost our National bird & iconic national symbol to extinction. 50 + years later, it's thriving again!
I would call John Denver primarily a folk singer with sometimes a country flavor, sometimes a pop flavor but always with a deep and inspiring message that touches everyone who hears his songs with his beautiful, expressive voice and his incredible guitar playing.
And I would have to agree with you, spot on description.
well said
"Raining fire in the sky" is because he was watching a meteor shower.
I always thought of that phrase as referring to the way the sunset shines against those clouds and gives them that fiery kind of glow, but you are right..without city lights, the stars are beautiful and meteor showers would show up so clear..you could spend the whole night just wishing on those "shooting stars". Absolutely breathtaking either way it would be interpreted 😊
Cool I never knew what that meant
I was just getting on to mention this. Correct, my John Denver fan/friend😊 He was a loving, special poet!
Days later, but before noticing your comment, I mentioned that as a possibility, and I also mentioned the Aurora Borealis, which is spectacular in a different way.
The sunset
Gotta respond to your question , does he have other good stuff? The answer is he doesn't have any bad stuff! Everything he did was pretty much gold, imo.
Pure gold!💛🎙🎶
Still miss him!❤
Even if it’s a song you aren’t really into you will listen because he was just that good. And don’t forget all the nights sitting around a campfire singing along to someone playing John Denver on a guitar. Everybody knew the songs and there was nothing that you didn’t want the kids or grandma to not hear.
John Denver's voice could have calmed the very sea if he desired.
It was a true loss when he passed away, way too young.
That was back in 1997.
He cared about the earth. He cared about people. He put his money into trying to help wherever he could.
I for one miss him.
R.I.P and thank you, John. Your gift of music will live on here.
AMEN
Annie's song is beautiful too. And Sunshine on my Shoulders
oh now you gonna make me cry! Thank you so much for mentioning those 2 songs.. I, too, got crazy once once and tried to touch the sun...
Annie's Song was the first dance song at my wedding reception.
I also highly recommend "Annie 's Song"... most beautiful love song so many people relate to. That is one of the joys of John's music, how simple and relatable it is.
❤❤❤❤❤ Ah...Sunshine on My Shoulders😊
Calypso for Jacques Cousteau is another masterpiece.
I agree! I suggested that yesterday. Maybe he will use the official video that shows all the marine animal shots.
I was just about to suggest this. It is my favorite John Denver song and that video is stunning.
YES he wrote it in 1 day on board for Jacques
oh yes!!
The ship bell at the beginning always makes my heart skip a beat with a little trill of joy. Nobody captured joy like John Denver.
In the 70's John Denver had a concert in Murfreesboro, TN. Mr. Denver booked the restaurant where I worked to feed his crew. After the meal Mr. Denver made a point to introduce himself and say a few words to each worker at the restaurant, one by one. A beautiful soul. His eyes and smile were mesmerizing. I was so impressed with his gentle way.
I loved watching your reaction! It’s so cool to watch another generation discover the music of my youth. John Denver’s music is not country, it’s definitely of the folk or singer/songwriter genre. He wrote and sang some amazing music. His music also makes beautiful lullabies for little ones, so learn them and sing them to your little one as a way to share what touches your soul.
I'm with you. I am 60 and had a crush on John Denver as a young girl. Had some of his albums, listened to them all the time 😊.
I'm also 60 and his death just gutted me. I loved his music, his love for the outdoors and activism. @@lisanickelson788
John Denver was one of America's best folk and country singers. His songs are testimony to testing the hands of time.
Technically, John Denver was a Folk artist, but he crossed over into pop and country, too. He was a staunch environmentalist who mourned the destruction of the beautiful mountains and oceans. His song Calypso was for his friend, Jaques Cousteau. Proceeds helped fund the Cousteau Foundation's mission. John was years ahead of his time for many things.
Who cares about PUTTING LABELS ON MUSIC AND PEOPLE???
is silly to do it...😮❤
His music influenced a whole generation, at least for a while, toward environmentalism. His legacy wasn't just in music, as if that weren't enough.
He was the first vocalist that I cried for when he died.
I am a long haul, coast to coast, OTR truck driver. I always played John Denver while driving in Virginia, Colorado. He was such a gift and still missed..
John was a genius songwriter. Soothing voice! R.I.P.
They’re not just American, they’re all pics of Colorado.
That's what I was gonna say! And not just Colorado but the Rocky Mountains part of Colorado. Lol
So not the flatter eastern part.
Mostly, yes but there were pics of the Tetons in Wyoming also
Those sunset photos are from the high plains.
@@lianabaddley8217it’s all beautiful but yeah the east is basically just cornfields lol
I love living in Colorado!
As for the “raining fire” line, I believe it is meant to be somewhat open to interpretation, and sunsets are spectacular there. As this is an autobiographical story, though, the story is that he is referring to a meteor shower he watched while at altitude early in his time in Colorado.
Also, the “lost a friend but kept the memory” refers to a friend who died in an accident when borrowing John’s motorbike. Obviously that was particularly rough given he had lent the vehicle that led to the friend’s death.
Finally, you chuckled at “everybody’s high”, and the song was banned from some radio stations in the 70s because of that line, but John always swore that was not about drugs but a natural high from being in the Rockies.
Yeah, the "high" in *Rocky Mountain High* drew too much attention, imo. Some people have no tolerance for poetry. But it was something of an anthem in Colorado during Legalization, so I'm not sure it's a bad thing, necessarily. A lot of people don't go to jail and prison anymore, and don't hurt anyone. So I don't even think John Denver himself would be too upset, even if it is a twisting of some epic imagery.
You could also say you’ve seen it rain fire if you have been through one of the intense lightning storms here…
Utah (state to the west of Colorado) resident here ..."Seen it rainin' fire in the sky" can also refer to the annual persied meteor showers that occur annually in this part of the world in the late summer. They can be spectacular and look like it's raining shooting stars.
"Hanging by a song", was likely "Leaving on a Jet Plane", which he wrote but its first commercial release was a #1 hit by Peter, Paul and Mary in 1967 (or Country Roads from his 1971, Poems, Prayers and Promises, which was a #2 hit). This eventually led to his leaving the Chad Mitchell trio to record his first solo album, Rhymes and Reasons in 1969 , followed by his breakthrough album, Poems, Prayers and Promises in 1971 and Rocky Mountain High in 1972.
The drug argument was not helped by the Poems, Prayers and Promises, lyric
"And lie there by the fire and watch the evening tire
While all my friends and my old lady Sit and pass the pipe around" 😊
John Denver was an american Treasure. If your not in America, you need to come here and travel this country from the Atlantic to the Pacific and see the natural beauty in every area of the country. It will change your life.
His music was beautiful. No one has ever matched his sound. He was a beautiful person
America is beautiful. I grew up in Colorado & John Denver was my first "big" concert in 1975. He is still revered in Colorado.
Sucks that John Denver died in a plane crash at way too young an age. But he did leave us with amazing music.
loved to fly like his dad
Yes. Still miss him. 😢❤
That was so sad and tragic.
He and Jim Croce. Lost so many too young in plane crashes. 😢
@@amyjohnson135 Right? 🥲
A rare talent. Saw him in concert, mid seventies, sat near the front, 2nd row if I remember correctly. His actual real singing voice - no difference at all from his recorded voice. Amazing concert.
I would categorize John as Folk/Country. He wrote all his own music. Annie's Song is one of the most beautiful creations ever, along with Let It Be Me & All I Have To Do Is Dream by the Everly Brothers. John was a great man. In addition to his music he was a humanitarian - he founded the World Hunger Project & testified before Congress against music censorship. His songs not only celebrate the environment; he worked & supported numerous programs & projects to improve and preserve our natural beauty and resources.
For years, John Denver was a songwriter for many famous artists, before he started recording for himself.
He also sang in the group "The Alpine Trio".
@@lorriredmon8212 mitchell trio I think ??
John Denver was a national treasure just like the Rocky Mountains. What a privilege it was to have this and other beautiful songs of the 70s be the soundtrack of my youth. I remember my father taking us on a trip through these mountains. Nothing can replace that.
You will love Linda Ronstadt. She is one of the very best singers America has ever had. Legendary!
I'm sure Andre will love her singing.
Saddest song ever and one of her best is ‘long, long time’!!😢
Linda singing blue bayou is incredible.
In 2007 Colorado made "Rocky Mountain High" one of their two official state songs.
I'm so glad you're delving into this man's music - you should check out Annie's Song next. That song even got 15 year old me all squishy it was so beautiful. Rocky Mountain High, I believe, is John Denver's own biography. This is HIS story! I also agree that his music is in that Folk Music genre. He was snubbed his entire career by the "country music" industry. They called him "POP" but he wasn't. He was Folksy in the best way possible. He sure made everybody FEEL his music.
Annie’s Song is my favorite. It is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard
Annie's Song which i understood after watching a biography that it was about his divorce. 💔
No it was written for his wife
He wrote it for his wife early on. Years later, when they did get divorced, it kind of ruined the song for me. It's about forever love and it wasn't...
You can never go wrong with John Denver. Always positive messages, always family friendly, always interesting lyrics that tell a story. One of the greats that we lost too soon. John Denver paints pictures, not with paintbrushes, but with his voice.
John Denver loved nature and his country. He expressed this through all his music. He had a tragic death. You will need tissues! (You might react to that story.) Enjoy your sites and your personality. Best wishes.
He has one of the most comforting voices and can hold notes forever!
John was so talented. He is definitely missed.
The song The Eagle and the Hawk really shows off his amazing range.
It is my favorite song.
John's voice is perfect. He's my favorite Country singer from a man who doesn't even like country. I LOVE John Denver.
He wasn't originally from Colorado and his first trip there, when he was 27, inspired this song. He then moved there, spending the rest of his life there.
"They say that he got crazy once, and he tried to touch the sun..." John died by himself in his own plane; it ran out of fuel. People will always wonder. We miss you John. Thank you, Andre, for listening to his music with your heart.
This song he wrote is about an experience he had camping with his wife and friends in the Colorado Rockies. The fire in the sky is in reference to a meteor shower that happened during that trip. He was an amazing singer/songwriter. Most of the songs he sang he also wrote.
As someone who has lived in Colorado most of my life-it’s the altitude. Denver is called the “Mile High City” because the elevation is a mile above sea level, and Denver is in the valley below the mountains. When you’re up there, you’re closer to the sun than many places in the world. Meteor storms seem so close, it’s like raining fire. Fun fact: Altitude sickness is a real thing, I’ve known people who needed to be hospitalized for severe altitude sickness. There are things you can do to alleviate it, but most important, visitors to Colorado need to stay in the lower elevations such as Denver for 2-3 days before going to stay in the mountains.
🥰It's a beautiful song. The USA is definitely a beautiful country. The sky in all of the US can "rain fire". Even in the hill country of Texas the sunsets/sunrises can be amazing. John Denver just had a way of making one remember how beautiful the simple things in life are.
Raining fire in the sky is a meteor shower that he saw in the mountains. John Denver was great at painting a picture with his words.
John Denver's voice is pure magic, and yes to me it's country. He transitioned from folk to country, and no one can sing like John. Such an amazing man. My favorite is Annie's Song... so incredible. His voice is so compelling.
He wrote this song after a visit to the Rocky Mountains. While he was there, he saw a meteor shower, which is what the line "I saw fire raining in the sky" refers to.
Also, the line "friends around the campfire and everybody's high" does not refer to drugs. He and his friends had just had a wonderful day and everyone was "high on life" and the beauty around them.
I'm a Coloradan! I actually teach in Denver Public Schools - the state capital, from which John took his stage surname - and live in the Rocky Mountains outside of town. I'm happy to say that in our part of the state, the landscape really looks like the photos. Also, our sunsets and sunrises are SPECTACULAR. Red, and gold, and hot pink... it never gets old.
John wrote a wonderful, humorous family song called " Grandma's Feather Bed."
He wrote a heart breaking song about his divorce.
My favorite of all the songs is The Eagle and the Hawk."
The "fire in the sky" was an impressive meteor shower that he witnessed.
The first time I remember hearing John Denver. He sang Grandma's Feather Bed on Sesame Street! Him singing the song along with all the Muppets just made it all the more rememberable! I was little but from that day I was a John Denver fan!
@@lianabaddley8217
😊 Wonderful song. Love the pig addition!
Eagle and the Hawk is my favorite as well! It just feels like I'm flying with them seeing how they live their lives aloft!
@@lorriredmon8212
You can tell that the song came from a personal experience.
Yes, flying and soaring.
I thought that was why he loved his tiny plane so much. "Come dance with the west wind, sail o're the canyons and up to the sky."
He didn't write"Grandma's Feather Bed" It's a Jim Connors tune!
I know. John Denver has such an amazing voice to go along with his incredible heartfelt lyrics.
I love how you don't just listen to the music, but you feel it in your soul. I can tell this song really resonates with you and I bet it left you with a deeper longing to visit Colorado. I look forward to more reactions on your musical journey.!
Linda Ronstadt is a mandatory artist/singer for you to hear next!
This music is definitely a 10+. I like you being able to discover this. John was an epic singer/songwriter, but also a staunch environmentalist. That all began for him when he visited and then moved to Colorado.
I do believe it is the most beautiful. That's one of the reasons I've never felt the need to leave. You can spend a lifetime seeing new places and never finish the journey.
I was 15 years old when I first saw the Rocky Mountains, 7 years before John wrote this song. And was bitten by what I call Rocky Mountain fever. They keep calling you back again and again. They renew your soul and spirt.
The "fire in the sky" line is taken from the fact that one of the first nights John Denver spent in Colorado a meteor shower took place, hence the "fire in the sky" line.
I lived in Colorado for 8 years. "Talk to God and listen to the casual reply...." was exactly how I felt about every walk I ever took in the mountains.
Your interpretation of John Denver's music is so accurate! He was such a talented, caring and thoughtful man, even though he had his own demons! His songwriting skills are unmatched, with the possible exception of Kris Kristopherson, who is another great songwriter!
I remember on one of his Telivision specials he spoke of the " Fire in the sky " was a large meteor shower he and his friends saw on one of their first camping trips up in the High country . John was big into conservation and saving of the natural beauty of our planet. He also worked with Jacque Cousteau on the Calypso and then wrote a great song. Calypso. There is also a video about the trip you would love to see. You'll never find a John Denver song you won't like. Enjoy the journey!!
John Denver is a definite ten. And I tell you he was also recognized right away as a classic. I was in elementary school back in '72 and we had a super cool music teacher who wrote out the lyrics to John Denver songs and we sang them in music class. When you have little kids singing your songs in school in celebration of America, just a year after their release, you know you've made a timeless cultural mark.
I remember the day he died. My husband and kids were in the car driving from Georgia to Texas and they came on the radio and announced that his plane had crashed. I remember I just started crying because I knew what the world had lost. Everything he did was beautiful and thoughtful.
John Denver is one of my favorite Singer/songwriters! I’ve loved his music since it first came out. I even saw him in concert in 1977. It was awesome!
I also saw him in concert at least three times in the L.A. area, and I was an early fan. I met him on my 18th birthday at a restaurant in the valley, at the table next to me and he joined in on the birthday song. Only autograph I ever asked for, lol, and he obliged. So sad he’s gone, he was only getting better and better.
I'm from Colorado. We have beautiful sunsets, that at times look like a " fire in the sky ".
John Denver was my favorite singer when i was a young teenager. He was on the radio back then. I'm 60 to give you a scale of time.
I was 9 when this came out. Young people were waking up to environmental issues. It was a beautiful time.
Colorado and the Rockies are breathtaking. ❤❤❤❤❤
He was a musical poet! Check out Annie's Song.
Awesome second song for John Denver! These are the Rocky Mountains West of Denver, Colorado. Love your priceless discoveries, dude! Btw, JD isn't actually a Country singer; he was a "folk singer."
I think you mean west of Denver. East of Denver is flat as a pancake
@@evanhughes1510 You're right! I corrected that. I did mean West. East of even has flat cornfields into Nebraska! 🙄
@@evanhughes1510 Reminds me of Jim Carrey saying: "That John Denver's full of shit!" in Dumb & Dumber when they dumbly were in flat farmland instead of Aspen, CO! 😂
Your english is just fine and even if I couldn't understand a thing you said, your expressions speak the language of everyone who has the ability to feel and listen to beauty of a John Denver song. Thank you!
To appreciate how "special" he is, watch him perform live at the Wildlife Concert: Annie's Song and Sunshine on My Shoulders. He had a beautiful soul.
Yes America is amazingly beautiful! Yes, John Denver is a national treasure. Such an amazing songwriter with the voice of an angel. He sounded just a beautiful live as he did recorded. When the sun sets in Colorado it is not soft yellow or burnt orange, it is a red flame pouring through the clouds.
It's heartwarming to see young people enjoy yesterday's impactful music
❤🤍Annie's Song🤍 ❤ So many John Denver hits. I think you'd enjoy his live performances, and there are many on UA-cam. Also, his live performance with Mama Cass Elliot, 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' is great...as was Mama Cass, another great artist gone too soon.
His song "Don't close your eyes" is so soft and heartfelt. You can feel his sadness and his hope in those words.
John Denver was a treasure. He was absolutely unique.
Seeing an American Bald Eagle fly is a special wondrous experience.
John Denvere is 1 in a million. He truly never put out bad music.
Linda Ronstadt was big in the 70s, just like John Denver. She has a powerful voice, and a really great song called Desperado. Can you please do. Reaction to that one?
John Denver is such a great American treasure. Loved him my entire life. His Lyrics speak to the heart.
John Denver is our ❤️. Beautiful choice.
John Denvers' music and lyrics touches your soul!
Call me crazy if you will. I've driven to Colorado many times from Missouri. As soon as I cross the state line, I put this song on my music player and have it on almost continously as I drive into the mountains. My brother lived at 9,000 ft above Boulder, so I was literally driving into the mountains west of Denver. My heart always lightened when I got there. Something in my soul wants/needs the mountains!! BTW, it's always a game to figure out the first spot you can actually SEE the mountains as you're coming in on I 70. At first you think they're just clouds.
I took a cross-country camping trip with my daughter after she graduated high school. On the way back, we visited and hiked in Rocky Mtn National Park. It's a beautiful park. I grew up knowing this song. The park and the mountains are everything Denver sings about.
John was raised in Texas and moved to Colorado. His father was quite a famous pilot from WW2. "Ive seen it raining fire from the sky". That line came from a night he and his wife were up on the mountain stargazing and they witnessed a spectacular meteor shower, so that is what he was referring to in his song. I love everything about this song - big fan since I was a kid. He was a real poet with the voice of angels. Glad you were so moved by it.
His voice live or on a record was always the same. No auto tune, pure beauty. He was amazing, and I'm sad he his gone.
Your reaction was perfectly appropriate. It's John Denver.
John Denver wrote and sung SO MANY great songs and the proof is in songs like this one as well as the fact that a new generation is discovering him and falling in love with him as I did 55 years ago! 🥰
John Denver's birth name was Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. After he discovered his adopted state of Colorado, he changed his name to Denver - a city in Colorado.
Andre, for sure you should react to Linda Ronstadt. She’s amazing. Such a beautiful, strong voice. I recommend the song Desperado, the studio version.
I suggest "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me".
John Denver was considered pop music. During the 1970s he had his own tv show. He was one of the biggest stars then.
Some great songs of his ..."Thank God I'm A Country Boy" 1974, "Annie's Song" which he wrote as an ode to his wife, and his first big hit "Sunshine On My Shoulders" Calypso" a tribute to Jacques-Yves Cousteau and his research ship, the Calypso, 1975. So many great songs to me most are 8-10.
There was a joke going around when this song came out that the Rocky Mountain High was Denver smoking weed somewhere in the mountains.
When John talks about raining fire in the sky, he is referring to the annual Perseid meteor shower, the most active and brightest meteor shower seen in the northern hemisphere that takes place every August - this is referring to a moonless night watching the sky - for a few straight days, this shower will easily have over 100 brightly visible meteors every hour looking toward the northern sky. In 2024, the moon will be in its first quarter phase, but will set around midnight, so the skies will be completely free of light if you view from a place with little to no light pollution.
THIS SONG IS DEFINATLY A 10 ! HE SINGS ABOUT THE SIMPLE THINGS THAT ARE BEAUTIFUL AND THE 70’s WERE A SIMPLE BUT EXCITING TIME IN LIFE !
Raining fire in the sky-the combination of clouds and Sunsets in the mountains makes for beautiful orange, purple and red skies.
It's hard to comprehend the power and spirituality of John Denver's music...
Back Home Again is another good John Denver song, quite sentimental.
Definately 10 ❣️my friend! Thank you for this opportunity to watch this with you. John Denver had been one of my favorite musicians for over way 50 years. He's a treasure.
I was a frequent volunteer in thae 1980's at Windstar, a charitable organization founded by John Denver and Tom Crum here in Colorado, so I had the privilege of knowing John. I can't begin to express what an intelligent, compassionate, expressive, and complex artist he was. You know, a lot of us who are Denver Fans are also guitar players. One of the appeals of John's music is that, even though his playing and arrangements are often sophisticated and complex, there are always simple versions that we can play and sing along to. Here in Colorado, if you're sitting by a campfire and someone is playing a guitar... at some point they are going to play a John Denver song. I guarantee it!
Annie's Song by John Denver. Listen to it with your wife...
John Denver passed away a few years ago but his music remains forever!
It's been so long since I heard this song I had forgotten how beautiful it is. John Denver was not only an amazing musical artist but he was flat out an amazing person he fought hard for environmental responsibility . He actually went and stood before Congress and testified for environmental laws during the Judiciary hearings
He walks in quiet solitude refers to a friend who took his life.
I live in Colorado. This song perfectly describes our mountains. Every time I hear it, I want to cry because it is so beautiful.
He was born in the summer of his 27th year,
Coming home to a place he'd never been before.
Is, in my opinion, the best opening line of any song ever written. 🤷🏻♀️
This has one of my all time favorite lyrics "I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly" It is truly an amazing sight to be high up in the mountains and see an eagle soaring and flying beneath you. You can't help but smile.
