This was the best interview I have seen with Ced Gee from anyone in any podcast or radio show, When I watch the other interviews with Ced it kind of seems like Ced can tell that the interviewer does not know his history so he does not really go into depth based off of that. This is the only interview I have seen Ced open up about his production, the history, his collaborations - everything. Amazing in depth interview. You have to bring Ced back and go more into the Ultra Mag journey and all of the labels they were on and how it was working as a group and seeing how Kool Keith eventually went solo and Ced has to answer some of the comments. Respect to Ced Gee. I am glad he chose to have this interview. Very dope, Kenny.

Mario took the name from a guy that had the name Disco King because he liked the name Disco King, He was a spade we took names at the time, like I took Black Jack , yet I don’t play no damn black Jack it just what we did, Mario just happen to like Music and I guess at that time it fitted the situation , not that he was a Disco DJ. Mario was not a disco Dj , he started something he didn’t even know that would become hip hop till this day, true, older people like Hollywood didn’t even like us and jacked us later, we was what Cholly rock called the bastard kids of that time, even Mario was the bastard kid right with us , Remember Mario himself got shunned because he Decatur to us, yet being he was a spade he was able to break the barrier that brought hip hop into existence today. Listen I really like how you put things in perspective yet you got Mario messed up , Mario was a kid at heart like us and only way hip hop was coming is through someone that had a kids heart and spirit and that my King is King Mario.

The sound Ced is describing as "Disco" eventually grew to become House Music in Chicago. And he's not lying, people in Herc's age group didn't gravitate to Hip-Hop at all - they wanted to be chic and sophisticated. Hip-Hop really was a younger crowd and a youth movement

Hats off to Kenny & Ced!
I am so thankful for the insight that was provided here by some true pioneers of hip-hop, album production & beat making. Long before rap music was super lucrative like it is today you gentlemen created classic after classic after classic from your souls with painstaking love and respect. Literally developing the most eclectic modern musical art form with a brand new instrument. The best comparison is you guys did for hip-hop, beat making and production what Hendrix did for the electric guitar & rock music. Completely revolutionized an entire genre. The quality of those productions are prolific and they hold up to this day. Every time I listen to BDP or Ultra I hear something that I never quite noticed before. There's depth and complexity. Much respect as well to The Bomb Squad, Large P, Preemo, Erick Sermon just to name a few.
Some music fans might not know that the Lynn Drum/Akai MPC 60 or E-mu SP12 came with like 2 barely usable stock drum kits on a floppy disk (if that). Essentially, those first sampling machines were empty. Today your MPC X or DAW comes with virtually unlimited built-in sounds. Not to mention how much of a genius you had to be back in the day with like 19 seconds of available sample time! Their was no such thing as drag and drop limitless sound libraries and cookie cutter beat templates like we have today. Also no computers, no Pro-Tools or Logic for editing...
On February 9th I got an e-mail that said Ultramagnetic was doing a show at the Brooklyn Bowl on July 19th and I instantly purchased my ticket. Those hip hop shows with like ten acts that do 2 or 3 songs a piece just leave me hanging. I need the entire fix!
Kudos gentlemen, ya'll made my evening.

If Hollywood already had a track record for deejaying on two turntables, rhyming over precorded records wether they were the top 40 or top 20 hits in the clubs and later is emulated by his protege's, Luv Bug Star Ski, June Bug, Eddie Cheeba, and DJ Smalls, how is he not apart of the hagiography of Hip-Hop? If he came later, I could understand, but to simply dismiss him is absurd. America's introduction to Hip-Hop was based off of his model through The Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight". This "disco" style rap record became the bedrock for Hip-Hop to take root... Other than that, great show DJ Kenny! Keep the interviews coming!
