It’s legal… for NOW bc I don’t think Grian expected someone to sell one item per box lol perhaps beef will have to bring this up with the permit office
A little bit of geology: basalt is a coastal rock that is formed by molten rock and quick cooling by the ocean or some other form of water. you wouldn't actually find basalt under the earth, it's very much a surface rock. cool shop though! love the idea :D
Another bit of geology: The mantle is between the crust and the core, so Beef was about as wrong as he could possibly have been about where he's getting his basalt from.
Actually, an open air is cool enough to cool down basaltic lava into basalt rock. Many Hawaiian and Icelandic basalts don't touch the water at all during the eruptions in case it's not raining or snowing.
So then Beef can technically sell ALL items in the game just by filling shulkers with whatever bonus/gift items he wants to incentivize the shulker purchase.
Completely legal stuff, Doc's legal team already cleared he of any allegations, also the very reason shulkers aren't diamond tier permit is exactly because of packaging issues.
Ex-geology student here: You're partially right about basalt. Basalt is an ignous rock that is formed by partially melted mantle magma that has cooled fast.

Hey Beef, been watching since Limbo part 1, and just checked out your channel for the first time in years. Its crazy that even after all this time your still rockin', and still pullin' such big numbers! And its still the content I remember enjoying years ago. When I started watching you in like 2014, I was in middle school! While I may have lost my interest in Minecraft after several years of watching/playing it everyday, its amazing to see others still fully into it.
Time for a quick geology lesson, the mantle and the core are completely separate layers of the Earth! The mantle is the largest layer, and consists of fluid like solid rock, being heated by the core. The core on the otherhand is actually two layers completely, an inner and outer core, mostly made of tighty packed iron and nickel, it is responsible for heating the interior of the earth, and creating the magnetic fields around the Earth, keeping us safe from charged particles coming from the Sun. And the final fact, we as humans have never been able to reach the mantle by digging, the crust is the thinest layer, so it goes to show that even the thinest layer is still absolutely huge! Thank you reading my ted talk 😅
The reason the Shulkers were a gold permit was because they can be given as shopping bags. But how many times are you going to shop a lot that you need a shulker sized shopping bag? Also the lack of supply doesn't really help.
Idea for the next Beefy Tunes: your background music, such as the one you use in the Beefy Tunes and Quiz Contest plug :D Also, as a geologist here, basalt is pretty much found near or on the surface since it needs a quick cooling process to form. Iceland and Hawaii are two of the most famous places to actively form basalts in the world. If you're drilling to the near mantle, you'll get gabbro instead.

You should put basalt and magma blocks at the bottom of the crane hole. Then used a variety of dark blocks to fade in the sides lighter toward the top of the hole, giving it the effect of being really deep.
Beef - Nice day to go outside and look around my farm! Also, Beef - Why is there a Platypus on my Roof? Dr Doofenschmirtz - Perry the Platypus! Stress - PERRY!
Earth Science undergrad here: Earth has an inner and outer core, both of which are predominantly iron and nickel. The core is separate from the mantle, which composed of rocks rich in iron and magnesium, like peridotite. While basalt is high in magnesium and the melt or magma that cools to make basalt comes from the mantle, you’ll find basalt to be commonly the top most layer of oceanic crust, which is the outer most layer of the earth on top of the mantle! So basalt CAN come from the mantle, but it doesn’t HAVE to.

Doc sold logs, which he has the permit for. He just packaged it very inefficiently, which is not necessarily illegal. Thisis also why Shulkers are a gold tier, not diamond tier permit: they're allowed to be included in a sale as packaging.
The Hermits are able to create supplies for their own personal use. Unless they hold the permit it's a violation for another Hermit to buy from them. Which is the same thing as being a seller without a permit.

Basalt is an igneous rock formed from the rapid cooling of lava that has lots of magnesium in it, so it would not be found beneath the earth, as lava molten rock that has busted through the earth's surface, and magma is underground molten rock. Fun basalt fact: It composed over 90% of the volcanic rock on the planet, and can be found in mass on the mid Atlantic ridge in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. hope you enjoyed this cool tidbit of information on basalt from: a basalt lover

Grian seems to always need a new book and quill at the Permit Office. Might be a profitable spot for the shop.
BEEF!! I am seriously loving your Beefy Tunes segment this season, its super unique and has definitely introduced me to some awesome songs. So now *I* have a suggestion! Presumably Dead Arm by Sydney Gish seems to be somewhat similar to your taste in music and its one of my favourites.
You should make a slow gradient into black in your basalt well, so it looks like it is disappearing into the darkness. You can maybe narrow it towards the down part to enchance the effect
Beef, to get back at doc for his misproper use of shuckers, you should include a few stacks of wood or sand in every shulker… you’re not selling wood or sand, just the shulkers which just so happen to have sand and/or wood in them
I just love Beef because of his kindness 23:39
i've been playing Minecraft since 2013 and i'm finally feeling brave enough to try out redstone. think i might try out the sugarcane farm for my first go around. thanks for the inspiration beefers!
The thing is doc gave iskall the apple package swedishfied. Apple must give an individual plastic bag for each thing. And the swedish standards of you need to assemble what you purchased. One oak log in their own package that needs to be assembled in a full stack of oak logs.
Everytime i hear your intro beef i still expect you to say Welcome back to another episode of Life in the woods it's been years!
Basalt is an igneous rock formed from the rapid cooling of lava that has lots of magnesium in it, so it would not be found beneath the earth, as lava molten rock that has busted through the earth's surface, and magma is underground molten rock. Fun basalt fact: It composed over 90% of the volcanic rock on the planet, and can be found in mass on the mid Atlantic ridge in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.
hope you enjoyed this cool tidbit of information on basalt

I’ll never get over how huge docs build is. It’s so funny.
I'd not listened to Pictureplane before, very cool. Kinda hard to describe but there's definitely influences from things like witch house, shoegaze and dream pop on that song.
If I may, I'd recommend the album Moonlust by The Holydrug Couple, it's also super mellow and beautifully warm, lush and dreamy.
Gain is going to need a lot of books and quills for his documents
Talk to Cleo about basalt. She has a degree in geology.
