Considering some of these patches change frequently, it's not always ideal to be perfect. Who cares if the tenderfoot patch is a little loose if it's gotta come off in a few mouths anyway & it gets replaced with 2nd class.
I came here to make the same comment! "...this isn't 4H" had me laughing. Thank you, Jenny, for this tutorial. I'm sewing patches and badges for the first time and these tips help so much.
Just the video I was looking for! My family recently visited our first National Park, and the kiddos started the Junior Ranger program. So they have these fun patches they earned after completing certain hikes, and we purchased the accompanying vests. They’ve been bugging me to sew them on, but I didn’t want to use my machine (because maybe they’ll want to take the badges off when they’re older and do something else with them? I dunno🤷🏼♀️). I like how your version isn’t such a permanent solution😊 Very helpful, simple, and QUICK!
Thanks for this video! If we are sewing on something to our actual scout shirt, such as a rank patch, should we be doing anything extra to secure it since the shirt will probably be washed more frequently than the sash? Thank you again!
I generally sew them the same way, though I will probably make my on-shirt stitches a little closer together. CHECK your patches from time to time to make sure they're secure! (I mean, of course, to tell your scout to check the patches.)
I like to buy good thread, so I use Gutermann or Coats & Clark general purpose thread, but I do try to match the color at least somewhat. Cheap thread will break if you do much with it.
I cannot thank you enough for this simple, clear tutorial!
Thanks Jenny you make it look so simple. Hats off to you, most solutions are the simples thx again.
"they are very large stitches, DON'T CARE, this isn't 4H" 😂♥ amazing, thanks for the tips, this was very helpful!
Thanks Christi. Happy badge sewing!

Thank you so much for this! I don't know why I made this so much harder in my head than it needed to be!
Thank you! I can't tell you how many I struggled to sew through the plastic 😂
Glad to help out!
Thank you so much!! I never would have figured this out on my own. Brilliant!

What kind of thread do you recommend for sewing badges on scout uniforms?
