- Democracies around the world “don’t seem to be caring” about the “scandal” of the Trudeau government’s treatment of a “peaceful protest,” according to author Douglas Murray.
“I mean, the Prime Minister has used laws which are meant to be used in wartime and he’s used them against a peaceful protest,” Mr Murray said.
“He slandered the truckers; he slandered the supporters of the truckers … And now he’s moved to the next phase, not just sending in the police to very brutally end the protest in Ottawa.
“This is absolutely totalitarian behaviour that has been going on from the Trudeau government.”

This was not a peaceful protest. They had been occupying ottawa for 3 weeks. Terrorizing the residents, ie: tried to burn down and apartment building and lock the doors so the residents would burn alive.

Even if Trudeau lifted the vax passport at the border with USA, the USA has implemented a mandatory vax passport for incoming Canadians in last October. Biden doesn't want to lift it yet. So the unvax truckers can't cross ANYWAYS.
As for ALL the other measures like masks mandates, lockdowns, closing schools, closing businesses, vax passport, etc, these measures are ALL UNDER PROVINCIAL JURISDICTIONS.
Trudeau DID NOT put ANY covid measures in Canada apart for immigration. That is it. Only the PM of all provinces can declare these measures. Trudeau CAN'T lift any measure in Canada. ONLY the provincial PM can.
So when the truckers invaded Ottawa and installed a siege there, Trudeau couldn't do ANYTHING to help ease the truckers' anger neither negociate ANYTHING with them.
He patiently waited 3 weeks for them to leave. They wouldn't . That is their bad.

I'm an American who has wanted to vacation in Australia since I was a kid. I wouldn't step foot in that country now. And I certainly wouldn't go to Canada either. There wasn't brutality on the part of the Canadian Government nor was there any totalitarian methods. The Emergency Act has the necessary checks and balance built in and the government is following the required protocols. However the protesters did demonstrate their authoritarian tendencies when they tried to exert their minority rule over the majority in their extortion attempt and their attempt to overthrow the Canadian government.
