Nah Hulk honestly shouldn't be signed. He's literally like a crash or two away from a suspension due to points on his super license. Not even Sargent is in that position. For a team trying to establish themselves having a driver that costs you that much just isn't a great idea. He's gonna pull resources away from development.

It is worth pointing out that much like Audi both Peugeot and Toyota entered F1 with high ambitions and being established players elsewhere, yet they floped at the 'pinnacle of motorsport'. Peugeot didn't had the best reliability track record as an engine supplier to McLaren, Jordan and Prost and 1994 for Peugeot will be remembered with the constant engine blowups. Toyota had a budget that was rivaling the big boys and state of art facilities, which were unfortunately located in Cologne, Germany (whereas most of the workforce is based in the UK). And all they had to show for it were the occasional podium here and there between 2005 and 2009.

Sauber were a very friendly team in the 2000s and early 2010s when I ran an F1 site, I got on their press list, they invited me to launches and testing sessions, even though I was totally an amateur, no press creds, nothing. I have a HUGE fondness for the team and Peter Sauber, sadly they are on the wane but, as a well known Disney property would say… “this is the way”. They will be gone, they won’t be forgotten.

Funny thing is, when people were mocking RB for buying Jaguar, “a drinks company buying an F1 team”, they clearly had forgotten that 10 - 12 year prior a clothing company that bought an F1 team won two WDC titles and 1 WCC. What is it again? History doesn’t repeat itself, but it rhymes? People are way too full of themselves.

    • @ivaneurope
      @ivaneurope 3 місяці тому +5

Also, it is worth pointing out that Red Bull has been sponsoring F1 teams since the mid-90's - starting in 1995 with Sauber and even had shares in the team until 2001 when they sold them to Credit Suisse after Peter Sauber signed a then unknown commodity in Kimi Räikkönen over Enrique Bernoldi, who was Helmut Marko's choice. This proved to be the right decision as Kimi would go on to score 21 wins and the 2007 WDC, while Bernoldi had a forgetable year and a half with the Arrows team (the team folded halfway through his second season). Red Bull did try to buy Arrows from Tom Walkinshaw in 2002 before the team went bust, but there was some mumbo jumbo with TW owing money to many people and the deal never went through. And when the opportunity to buy Jaguar's ailing F1 team for pennies on the Dollar, they jumped on it. So yeah, 'that drinks company' was very serious on its intention to own one day a F1 team. And I'd argue that Benetton's success had inspired Red Bull to eventually own a F1 team.

The ticket prices are getting ridiculous. The closest grand prix to me is Vegas, and it's $1500 for a single seat where you can actually see the race, since the "general admission" seats don't come with anywhere to actually see the race. Meanwhile, I can drive TWENTY SIX HOURS to Texas and watch it for $400 in the grass with a shade umbrella and a cooler. Guess which one I'm going to?
I hope they keep failing to sell tickets. We need to start a petition to lower F1 ticket prices and get all the big F1 youtubers to talk about it. Maybe if we get 500k-1mil signatures, Liberty Media will realize they actually could sell out if they just had some lower end pricing. Miami's prices were way more reasonable, and look at the attendance. I think Vegas will have a hard time filling seats for $1500 this year.

It's double sided. As older F1 fan it's a shame to see some of the classic tracks vanishing from the calendar. At the same time we see new tracks being added that are over priced.
Also, if you had to drive 26 hours to Texas. Why not just take a flight to Europe and watch a race there. Also probably less hot than being in Texas.

I mean as Alpine-Renault are showing, being a works team is no guarantee of success.
Also like Renault, Audi will only have the one team, one advantage Mercedes and Ferrari have, is that they have multiple customer teams allowing them to get even more data to improve their engines season on season. The engine supplier with Red Bull (for now Honda, and soon Ford) also have that advantage due to Red Bull inexplicably having two teams.
Audi won't have that, and with F1 seemingly completely unwilling to admit new teams, that's not going to change anytime soon. Audi could find themselves in a similar position to where Renault is if they aren't careful.

    • @dward596

Audi will do better then most people think, this is not a jump in with both feet they have a long term strategy!
    1. Work the kinks out before they take over will they be at the top! No but middle of the pack or a tad higher!
2026 They will do even better!
    2. They answer to themselves, no parts deal no engine deals they have full control over their car and that is half the battle! No out side arm twisting, look at Aston Martin and Honda pairing up! Lances days are numbered! 2026 will be Lances last go at it! After that Honda will insist a drive they approve!
    3. Nico is their German driver, let’s wait and see who gets the next drive!

I think as long that Andreas Seidl is pulling the strings behind the scenes, you shouldnt underestimate them. Of course now they are sh*t but in the long term it will pay of, he did it with porsche in the WEC and with McLaren when they were complete sh*t. It will take some time but Mr. Seidl and his Team will perform, its almost like u can say its the "Seidl-Effect". he even changed the machines for tire changes during the pit stops so they can get a tenth their.
Always the same "Sauber is a backmarker now" "Audi wont perform" and so on and so on...
Just have some trust in the process, and give Audi some time, of course the commitment came a little late but the team will be good if they have patience and a second driver that can give solid feedback like Hulkenberg.
Just trust the procces like williams and McLaren did

Any motorsport class Audi has entered they have done well and gone on to dominate so there is some pedigree. I think 2027 will be the indicator if they will be dipping their fly in the top teams ointment in 2028. A advantage Audi does have is they have a present ICE that meets the 2026 regs and they have a Formula E programme that is running well so the electric side of things wont be a complete mystery. I do think this transition period from Sauber to Audi has been a complete joke and makes a mockery of F1s "must be competitive rule" that they use to keep new teams joining.

Sauber is under VW management right now, but they are still moving pieces around, and like you said, when they start to have success, they want Audi on the car rather than Sauber. Right now it is a mess, as a move should be. No house looks fit for a magazine in the middle of a move, they are still running a Ferrari engine and Sauber chassis, they haven't even gotten the Porsche derived PU in there yet and they have had very little to say about that chassis. 2026 will be the first year we can really see what VW is capable of.

One thing I will never get is why there is so much hate on redbull winning so much. Mercedes was winning for years and no one cared as much as the 3 years that redbull is winning. Is it because of Lewis? Someone who is more worried about fashion then he is racing? Someone who only did good cause he had a good car (as proved by the last couple of years). Is it because he is black and no one wanted to go against a team with a black person driving? So many questions, and I am sure all of the answers will be different. Seats at a top team are opening by ‘26 or ‘27 at latest and he’ll want to be somewhere that gives him the flexibility to grab it and Williams will give him that to have him for a year or two while Audi would require him to be locked in

Just a few things here. Silverstone is currently toxicity expensive, however if you buy the tickets early and don’t wait around you can get them for a decent price. After being to quite a few European races there’s nothing like Silverstone, bar maybe Monza but the organisation there is atrocious. Definitely give Silverstone a go. Second, the claims about the engine formula is insane revisionism peddled by Red Bull and the Hamilton and Merc haters. Mercedes had by far the best aerodynamics on the grid from 2014-2020 bar maybe Ferrari at the start of 2017 and 2018. Finally the STR03 from 2008 was the RB4. Toro Rosso used RBR chassis from 2006-2009.

Probably the only reason why F1 is happy about Audi joining, is because of all the cash that they brought by revamping an existing team, and why Andretti still isn't allowed, because most of his investments come in the form of factories and personnell, not by buying up their property.
I still don't get it though, they have more than 10 teams in F2, F3 has like 30 drivers, F1 has had more than 10 teams before, what's the hold up?
Liberty should make a bigger pie for the teams, rather than the teams having to cut smaller slices, it's a sport as much as it is a business, balance it better.

I believe it now it’s vw purchasing a Formula One team
The whole reason why Volkswagen is not end in 24 hours of Le Mans anymore what’s the nice fancy dancy Audi R18 Diesel hybrid
What is because they cheated on an emissions test and if you have a small V6 or 4 cylinder he cannot burn the sulfur dioxide off only a V10 and V12 burn the sulfur dioxide and pollute clean water vapor out of the exhaust
Volkswagen is banned from Le Mans and for a company that did a mistake, trying to come onto Formula One and kind of clean up the history I don’t know what is the vw group is trying to achieve
I used to love Volkswagen, but I was a kid I used to love the Le Mans Lmp1 R18 Diesel hybrid some much my BABA had a VW Passat TDI which is based off of the diesel technology from the R18
With the recall, for Volkswagen All TDI
That broke my heart I remember I was 15 at the time, and I cried. 😢
So many of us motorsport enthusiast, thought that diesel is the fuel of the future
But we were deceived lie to
Me personally, I do not care about the Audi Formula One team
Volkswagen of my heart and I will never ever purchase a Volkswagen product

No one thought Schumacher was washed. lol, he almost won the ‘96 WDC in one of the worst cars on the grid. Also, is it news to anyone that it takes at least 3-4 years to produce a contender? The only rule that is advantageous to Audi is the use of biofuels because they started developing them more than a decade ago for Le Mans, but the entire reason the new formula doesn’t have batteries located in the front wheels is because Audi has too much experience in the area.

F1 has been desperate to get VW group in since the 90s. I have no idea why they won’t let anyone else in. Especially when they could have Cadillac and the Andretti name. It’s baffling and slightly infuriating.

The thing with Audi is they aren't going to be operating in a vacuum. They have VW money, and all the associated connections to farm engineering talent from, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, and they would be idiots to not get their close ties with Cosworth and Rimac involved also. VW is the largest car maker in Europe and it's high time they joined the party again.
True they're not going to win in 2026 but come on, Sainz has plenty of time left in F1 and he can help build the team. VW dominates in pretty much any race series it enters.

It ISN'T Audi this year, it's Sauber Minus. Audi/VW Group have really bungled the transition in my opinion. They seem happy to let Sauber drift with no input from the parent. Problems multiple from this, right now there's the driver market situation - no credibility. Then they have to start again, virtually from scratch from a defunct team in 2026. They will be rubbish in 2026 and then they face a huge upward trajectory. Their driver options at the end of 2026 will still be poor. "Works team" has little currency in modern F1 - look at McLaren F1 with their "customer" engines.

You're not seeing the bigger picture, they have an opportunity to both bring in a new engine, and they can grab from and use parts from winning and expensive brands they own, they can take Porsche racing parts, which have shown wins in WEC AND IMSA, they can use Lamborghini Liveries in Italy and the United States to punk Ferrari, and they can use Bugatti Liveries in France, Belgium, and even Monaco to show wealth, it's a win all around... these 2 Sauber years don't count, they have a hand me down Ferrari engine like HAAS, with classic Ferrari garbage of take our scraps attitude... this is why HAAS, im hoping folds and becomes Andretti/Cadillac, NOBODY SHOULD BE FORCED TO USE FERRARI CRAP... last thing F1 bought out MOTOGP, and the main gun in that DUCATI, is owned by Volkswagen which means, cross promotion, is again their favor since they own Ducati too.
