President Evelyn Brooks Higginbotham and the Pulitzer prize-winning
historian Annette Gordon-Reed, who has recently published the book
On Juneteenth (2021). Both are National Humanities Medalists and teach
in the Department of History at Harvard University.
Gordon-Reed's book highlights a moving account of her Texas family’s
generations-long commemoration of Juneteenth, Annette Gordon-Reed
reflects upon its meaning for her ancestors who were enslaved in this state.
