Excellent presentation! I can certainly see how pollen stress as you described can send a colony into a spiral. If all the nurse bees in a colony are pollen stressed they make less frequent and more brief visits to the brood and perpetuate the pollen stress to successive generations. Very thought provoking.

Hello--question for you. Why would we not feed bees "regular ground organic pollen" without all the substitutes? Is there a reason why I would not want to do this and use the substitute instead? I'm personally not a fan of feeding bees essential oils. But what are your thoughts. Thanks.

Can you mitigate the stress issues by feeding Protein supplements ?

It is late July and I have had my 1 deep box for 1 month now. I'm very concern about the health of my new Italian bees. I was told not to add pollen to the sugar water ONLY add 1/4 tsp to a gallon of sugar water of Honey B Healthy so the bees can have enough food for this winter. Do you agree with that dietary suggesting or do you feel I should add pollen supplement to the sugar water? Now or in the future months, I think the bees are bringing in some pollen from my area. and yes most of my neighbors do have some flowers.

Great presentation. Answers questions about current issue in my apiary. I know research funding is always an issue, but have you considered using optical scanners?

I can't help but wonder about mite loads. That is a variable, unless I missed it, that was not talked about and would be influential.

I feed my bees pollen patties. Sometimes whole frames will be filled with pollen. Can their be too much pollen? Thanks

I have colonys with way to much pollen. How does this happen? I'm having to thin it out so the queen will not swarm.
