Love the fact that one of the great cup comebacks was completed by a man called Lazarus!!

I was there. A great comeback. What a player Marsh was. Lazarus brought QPR back from the dead.

I was 9 years old at the time. QPR had become a juggernaut in the 3rd division and were generally holding their own when facing 1st and 2nd division teams in the cup competitions. QPR's 1967 League Cup run was much like Leicester City's 2016 Premier League title; Regardless of your individual team loyalty, you were pulling for the underdog to achieve the unimaginable. Unless you were a West Brom fan
West Brom was a local team and my best friend was a West Brom fan. We had family friends who were WBA season ticket holders. I was a Man U fan since the 63 cup final and whenever Man U would play at the Hawthorns they'd gift their tickets so that I could see the match.
On the day of the League Cup final I'd been with my dad at the Aston Villa/Tottenham match. Back then pretty much every match kicked off at 3pm. I don't know if the cup final also kicked off a 3 but as the Villa match ended the scoreboard showed that West Brom was winning the cup final 2-0. I felt a tad gutted but I was not surprised that a Div 1 club was dominating a Div 3 club.
No internet in those and unless you were watching Grandstand in the late afternoon when they had a camera pointed at the teletype printer as the days scores came over the wire, it was going to be the Sunday morning National newspaper before you'd know. The League Cup Final was an exception of course as it aired at 10PM on match of the day. In the Birmingham area there was a sports oriented paper called the Argus (printed on pink paper) that I'd somehow convinced my dad to subscribe to. It would be delivered around 7pm on a Saturday night. Would have all the day's scores and match reports. They somehow managed to typeset, print and distribute in a 2 hour window . . . remarkable!
There is no way on earth that under normal logical circumstances I could have talked my dad into incurring the weekly expense of the Argus as he'd squeeze a penny so hard the queen would jump off - except that is when it came football pools. Common sense went out the window. The odds on winning anything of note were lower than the odds of hooking up with Miss World.
But imagine that if you strike out, all you have to do is wait a week and you're in with a fresh chance again. . . . and if Miss World is anxious to hook up, don't you want to know that fact as soon as possible? It was plainly obvious that you absolutely need the Argus delivered Saturday evening.
The night of the League Cup final I heard the sound of a newspaper being thrust through the front door mail slot, retrieved it, and promptly returned to the coal fire heated living room. "What was the final score?" My dad inquired. Upon unfolding the Argus, the shock/joy I felt was better than Christmas
"Final score was 3-2". He didn't ask, just assumed West Brom had won, gave credit to QPR for making a game of it.
At 10 pm Match of the Day came on. He was in for a surprise.

Les Allen - won Double with Spurs in 1961 but had to give way to Jimmy Greaves the following season. So pleased for him when QPR won this.

Notice how the goalkeepers hold on to the ball when saving: not like today's numpties who can only parry the ball away...

American here who transitioned from being a fan of Ice Hockey to become a fan of the sport in 2014 when I watched the World Cup in its entirety.
It means a whole lot to me that videos like this exist which allow me to learn about the history and to experience the grand moments in football that are only stories today.
Thank you for uploading this, it was nice reading the comments of everyone who was able to experience this game.
If anyone sees this and has other suggestions of games or era's of a club or specific players I should learn more about ... I would love a comment.
Thanks for reading and hope you have a wonderful day.

Marsh was the class act in that team but other young players were also influential- Roger Morgan ( who went to my team Tottenham), Frank Sibley, Keith Sanderson. Deserved winners against a good WBA side including Clark, Hope, Tony Brown and Astle
