You do know half of Dead Sea is part of Jordan so why are you saying Palestine owns it? The King of Jordan kicked them out back in the 70s for good reason.
Israel is not super expensive as you said, and you don't have to live on noodles. There are many very good restaurants in a reasonable price. It seems as you have found only one "tourist trap".

We were there for most of December. The mornings were cool but it was pretty normal for the afternoon to reach mid 70's. We usually started off in a light jacket and ended up taking it off for the afternoon.
Although I'm 5'9 and 188 lbs I'm 53. Easy hike? Josh, I would stick to the tram. The Dead Sea look beautiful but with that much sodium content in the water, wasn't it unhealthy?

We also heard that there was a lot of health benefits of the dead sea. Not sure how much it does help though!

Haha yes the tram is a great option. Especially if you were to visit during the summer or later in the day after it gets very hot!
