'Clouds personality is inconsistent in the quests.' Yeah I get why you would think that if you haven't played the original. It's actually the most ingenious part of the writing.
The thing about Cloud's reaction to being asked to visit the orphanage ---- he's saying no promises because he wants the asker to pull through and visit it himself. So in a way, Cloud is trying to tell his friend "don't give up!"
I loved how you were constantly questioning what is real and what isn't. Like cloud has a headache and sees sephiroth and you are like ok he's not really there, but then sometimes other characters could see him and you were like "oh wait maybe he is there. But no hes flying and stuff, what is happening?" You're reaction is great and it is what you should be thinking lol. I hope you play part 2 and can put together more of what is happening. Rebirth is 10x better than this game, it blows it out of the water. I dig how you edited this whole game down to a few hours, very good.
the thing about the whispers/arbiters of fate is that, they are trying to force the story to go the way the original game story went. you could say they are like the embodiment of the purists, who want a 1-1 remake. because, and this is the twist, this game is not a "REmake" its a "reMAKE". As in the same story being remade to fit a new narrative. basically imagine that this game is set in a parallel universe to the original game, and sephiroth from the original game, after being defeated, managed to hop into this "timeline" and is trying to change things so he can win in the end. and by the end of this game, that's what he managed to do, take over the arbiters of fate, so HE can run the story in a way that benefits him. its a play on the the word remake, as both a rethread of the same story, but also, a rebuild of that story in a diferent way. which is also why sephiroth shows up to cloud earlier than he was "supposed to" because, that's the OG 1997 game version of sephiroth. manipulating cloud so things go his way. this is why the whispers hurt jessie's leg, because in the OG game, cloud is supposed to go to that mission, not her, but in here, Barret didnt trust him enough so he wasnt gonna bring him, which forced them to act, and make sure cloud went with barret and tifa to blow the second reactor. basically, everytime they act, its them trying to "course correct" the story back to its default progression. but sephiroth keeps messing with things.
I just did some research and it seems they patched the game early this year and changed the line to this one. Apparently it is more accurate to the Japanese translation they said, very interesting indeed.
Yeah they added that right before Rebirth released as I guess the developers felt it fit better and was a direct English translation of what she said in the Japanese voice lines of the game.
I'm pretty sure the final scene is meant to make more sense if you played the original. The whole point of the scene is that they're "defying destiny woooo" and not explicitly redoing the events of the original game, presumably to keep the stakes high for those who did play it. (which I did recently) It's still a bafflingly confusing sequence, but I hope that helps clear some things up.
Yeah I gathered that from the whole "killing destiny and fate" but yeah the whole sequence and what was going on and how was still omega confusing, I understand the outcome though atleast, to an extent.
it actually makes more sense if you look at this as a parallel universe/sequel of the original game. but the only ones who know this are sephiroth and aerith(at the beginning of the game). its also interesting because its a remake in the sense of sephiroth literaly trying to remake the story in a way that fits his agenda. which the whispers are trying to stop at all cost. trying to fix any deviation they can, but by the end, sephiroth manages to kill the spirit that is holding destiny together. so it can go however he(sephiroth) wants.
cloud being an inconsistent character, i mean, yeah, that's his character alright. due to spoiler reasons just accept that, it makes logical sense when you discover the truth... IN PART 3!!!!! also no, its not a joke, this is a massive character detail that is explained in the last part of the story(of the original game, and the third game will talk about it).

First time watcher of your channel here. This game was my entrance into FF7. Played it last year in 2023. I fell in love with it. And it made me get a PS5 just to get rebirth. I enjoyed watching the summary of your playthrough! Can't wait to see you play rebirth! Your commentary is so funny this 2.5 hour video felt like 10 minutes I was so entertained.🤣
I'm glad you liked it. The game is amazing and I honestly did think about getting a PS5 too just because of it, but I'm still skeptical on the idea of a $570 FF7 Rebirth machine lmao. Can't wait to play it when it releases on pc though, hopefully soon.
So the reason for the Cloud dress stuff is because in the original, you had to sneak into Corneo's mansion as well, but you had to go around town finding different pieces of the disguise. A wig, the dress, and undergarments that you take from a gentlemen's club. It's one of those things where it hasn't aged well (there's quite a few of those in the OG), in a 'Haha look at the man in the dress look at how emasculated he is' kind of way (it was also the 90's...). Leading up to this games release, people were wondering if they would include Cloud being in a dress at all, because it is something people remember from the game, but times have changed it might not be as accepted now as it was then. They managed to find a way to include it in a way that's respectful, entertaining, but also managed to eclipse the original imo.
"aerith seems to know something about whats going on" this isnt a 1:1 remake, its changed. essentially the beginning of the game where you see aerith open her eyes, shes gaining memories from the lifestream. Aerith knows EVERYTHING.
However its now confirmed via Rebirth that she had SOME future knowledge which has now been taken away by the Whispers. So as of the end of Remake she no longer knows the future.

Doing all of the quests in Sector 7 and Sector 5 gets you more than gil and items, they also determine the dresses that Tifa and Aerith gets in Wall Market. Completing all the quests in Sector 7 allows you to pick Tifa's dress ("Something mature/exotic/sporty") and the more you do in 5 determines how fancy Aerith's dress is. Also, the original FF7 Honeybee Inn and its development is insane. It's a love hotel in the original, which is still less scandalous in that it was originally planned as a brothel.

I'm not seeing an explanation in the comments, so I guess I'll give it for anyone curious. The FF7 Remake games are sort of these "spin-off remix sequels", not one-to-one recreations of the original FF7 game. The original came out years ago, and many of the biggest twists have become common knowledge, which means the story would have less of the intended impact on new players. So, they decided to flip the idea of a "remake" on it's head, with the subtitle having a double meaning. That being said, the premise in FF7 Remake is that Sephiroth, the one from the end of the OG game, somehow gets sent back to the start to relive the events. This first part is literally him goading Cloud and friends into defeating fate, so that he can eventually win the actual final battle. Aerith either always had premonitions, and hid them better in the OG game, or she got the ability here as a way to counter Sephiroth own foresight. Regardless, that's the reason they're acting differently (OG Sephiroth wouldn't really know Cloud exists at this point, and we wouldn't learn he is even still alive until President Shinra gets stabbed) and dropping hints/foreshadowing for OG game events ("You can't fall in love with me", "I see you failed again", etc.). It's actually kind of cool. With destiny itself defeated, the players no longer have the original's plot to rely on. We no longer know if or which characters will die, if certain scenes will still occur, or if things will go completely off-the-rails. And a lot of effort was put into crafting this new take, which they didn't have to do, so that the Remake games can, decades from now, be remembered as more than just "the newer, prettier one". - Also, the humanoid cat with the crown that shows up when the plate falls is a character that is introduced later in FF7, and is just making a cameo here. It's name is "Cait Sith", which is from Scottish folklore ("cait sith" literally means "fairy cat"), and is actually pronounced like "caught shee".
The "Remake" in the title has true hidden meaning - less of a video game remake, it's more a description of the new game's contents, which itself is closer to being a sequel. It's not the video game that is getting remade; it's the world, the story and the fate of the characters.
I don't know if this is a controversial or unpopular opinion, but I didn't like chadley very much, and I also forgot to do his stuff. So, not only did I not like him much, but he also got neglected on accident. All in all, probably my bad.

@@MilkManSteve chadley is more of a completionist side objective. with his own arena like challenges, and rewards. most summons for example are locked behind him.
@MilkManSteve I didn't bother with Chadly in remake, I don't care about arena and challenge stuff. Unfortunately, he must be one of the executives' favorite characters because they make certain you don't forget about him or miss him in Rebirth. Rare materia and summons are locked behind his area scan missions and memory games. And everytime you look through his menu or do a scan or something he bugs you about world data. Imagine if Purah or Zelda kept calling you on the tablet reminding you to go to the divine beast or to city every time you finish ruin or subquest?
Not playing this game with ambient subtitles should be punishable by stoning. The Midgar citizens never stop worldbuilding, telling jokes, or commenting on current events, they’re such a great aspect of the game. Really harkening back to old RPG’s where nearly every npc had something to say.
As far as sephiroth appearing early. Part of it is the pacing difference in the remake, but for the longest time, you never see sephiroth, except in the kalm flashback. You get imprisoned by Shinra, sephiroth assassinates shinra’s president. You have to learn to catch chocobos to outrun a monster to progress that you have very little chance at defeating in combat, you find another of that monster brutally impaled on a tree from when sephiroth went through here. Basically, whatever roadblocks you face, you see that sephiroth did it first, and with enough ease that he could be theatrical about it. The remake took the first couple hours of the game and made a full standalone title out of it
12:40 Middle class civilians also live on the top plates, making the dynamic more interesting. It isn't like just 1% of the people getting all the good stuff and ignoring everyone else. It's people like everyday citizens also living on top and enjoying the benefits of mako. For example, Jessie's family, who lives in a very average suburban area on top of the plates, and who's father was literally a blue collar worker doing a dangerous job, not just some elite born out of generational wealth.

Loved watching someone experience it fresh! They did a phenomenal job remaking the OG, kept/expanded the good stuff while fixing the bad stuff. However I still like the og more cus of the story being in 1 game and without the "fate" stuff (Opinon subject to change depending on Rebirth/Part 3). I'm also waiting for Rebirth to come to PC, been dying to play it. I'd highly recommend playing the OG at some point (before or after) depending on if you want to experience all 3 remakes first, or go into them knowing what would have happened, seeing as they will probably change the story a bit, up to you. @@MilkManSteve I really recommed it, I played the OG a month before Remake and it made me appreciate it so much more. It enhances the experience a ton and is just a really good game by itself. The graphics are something you get used to after a while, but if playing it doesn't work out well, there are many good playthroughs on UA-cam. Very much worth checking out.
@@MilkManSteve Remake is rather newcomer friendly, but Rebirth very much expects you to know the events of the original game, as well as Crisis Core and The First Soldier storyline from the Ever Crisis mobile game. That's a big reason why all three of those storylines are in Ever Crisis, and why Crisis Core got a modern remaster
YES!!! Please play Rebirth, its such an incredible game and worth all the time and energy you inevitably put into it. FF7 Remake was a very special game for me at the time since its what introduced me to the OG FF7, which is now currently my favourite game of all time.Though Rebirth has got to be my 2nd favourite video game of all time, right beside the OG. Its genuinely so fun to play and the pacing is wayyy better than remake. It has my favorite gameplay from a RPG, and since its adapting the best part of the OG games story, it lends to the whole experience being so special. I've fallen so deeply in love with the franchise in the past 4 years now, and Im so happy to see a new fan join the ride : ) cant wait for your playthrough of rebirth
Great video but skipping that jenova fight is a crime against humanity. No way you weren’t going nuts during that banger. And you might as well buy a ps5 from the money you get from this video. You could wait for the PC release, but honestly think rebirth and a few other games justify the purchase. You thought this game was phenomenal, I did too…rebirth is the best game I’ve played in the past decade. 200 hours of content to 100% it. Cheers.

Edit:I watch the whole video. Man it's really fun watching someone whose positive about the game. All the streamers that got early copy complain so much that I decided to not play the game. The OG fandom war not happy with "ghost thingy". Sephiroth showing up every 5 second and the astronomical amount of padding. Yikes. Tho I saw clips of the new 2nd game. The exploration and the open world look soo good. You got my sub, can't wait for the 2nd game but take your time. Tho you might wanna play Zack game first (maybe watch the movie??)or you can ask your friends about what's best.

A lot of people don’t realize that a lot of these quests that they’re doing in remake Connect with what happens in rebirth if they don’t do all the missions they miss out on who the characters are
Basically nothing that happened in the final chapter happened in the original game. They just get away from Shinra, then walk away to leave Midgar and look for Sephiroth. Essentially Sephiroth seems to have some kind of foreknowledge of FF7's story, and is looking to eliminate whatever forces would make it play out the same way again... which he succeeded at, since you and the party basically gambled on being able to kill Sephiroth early if you killed fate, and doing so apparently altered the events of... either the past, or the events of another timeline??? In a weird way this game is essentially a sequel to final fantasy 7, about the story of FF7 getting fucked up, which just happens to involve re-telling a lot of Final Fantasy 7 along the way. It's really worth it to play the original game, even if its translation is janky as hell.
I think I will play the original at some point just to see what it was like. But yeah I think I understand a bit of "why" the ending happened how it did but some of the actions and events are still insane or confusing, but I think I understand enough to be ready for the sequel.
@@MilkManSteve It's definitely still confusing and overwhelming even WITH foreknowledge, but a good chunk of it becomes confusing in an exciting way if, say, you know who the heck the black haired guy is. Fun fact and subtle hint, though, you catch a glimpse of Stamp the Shinra propoganda cartoon dog on a wrapper in a scene with the black haired guy, and it's a different breed of dog from the one we see in the rest of the game.
Great video man. I had a similar experience when I first played this game. I was only able to play a little of the OG game because my dad's computer got damaged and had to be replaced. I also had a Wii U and that console didn't have an FF VII OG port. When this remake project came out, I unfortunately already knew about some major plot details from the OG game. Even still, I had a lot of fun playing this game, and the new story elements, while very confusing and convoluted, still managed to keep me invested. I can't wait for you to play Rebirth. You're going to love it!
So here’s what I kind wha t want to say about this compared to the original. The original game had plenty of flaws and annoyances, but altogether it was a really neat tight experience. The story spanned a huge world and had a decent amount of characters, yet had a clear direction the whole way through. Every main character gets to work through something and the commentary and theming is top notch. Plus I kind of like turn based RPGs, while some people don’t. Anyways, there’s a reason it’s a classic like Chrono Trigger. The breadth of the world, novelty of the mechanics, complexity of the characters, and clear direction and theming of the story come together to create something that many view as nominal. The remake actually does a lot of things right. It takes the characters and fleshes them out really well while being the to their original characterization. The combat is its one thing, but it incorporates the concept of the ATB bar really well by making the hard hitting attacks tied to it and more importantly keeps the strengths of the materia system despite its changes. Now my gripes. The pacing felt a little weird with the first like 10% of the original game encompassing the whole first game. Like yay, they’re fleshing things out, but because they don’t want to wait to tackle the wider narrative they sort of spoil a lot of the themes present in the latter portions of the original as well as some huge revelations that your not supposed to have until around endgame. It made me feel kind of like the game was too eager to spoil newcomers so they couldn’t have those hard hitting moments from the original where the subtle clues and weird occurrences paid off. Second of all, while I loved the combat, I felt like I wasn’t given the chance to engross myself in it. This might be a problem with me, but I can handle cutscenes and the like, but when the ratio of character moments and cutscenes to gameplay goes past 50:50 it starts to make everything drag for me. I have all these cool mechanics, but I have to wade through so much to get to them, plus there are very rarely any good places to grind and when your given the opportunity it’s usually not that good of one. I don’t know, maybe I like grinding a bit too much. Thirdly and the thing that sullied the remake the most for me is the meta narrative elements. I’m not wholly against the idea, but I feel like how it’s implemented turns a few meaningful elements front he original on their head and also adds a lot of weird contrivances that makes everything really complicated and alienates newcomers even more. Like, I think the game expects you to have played Crisis Core with the character Zack and his backstory being so prominent. He does appear in the original game but is part of a huge story element that I feel like the remake is glossing over or is at least not hurting the impact of with its constant references and allusions There’s also Sepheroth appearing 24/7. In the original he was this looming pretense that you only ever saw hints of and the carnage he left behind. The game built him up a lot and the first time we actually see him is the sequence that the opening of the second game adapts. In the original Cloud was basically nothing to Sepheroth, but in the remake Sepheroth has nothing better to do than to antagonize and harass cloud at every turn and while this might make sense where the meta-narrative is concerned, I feel like it’s ruins elements of the actual narrative. That’s what I’m getting at with this point. The meta-narrative doesn’t really respect the finer elements of the original narrative. Even then, it’s never too intrusive until he end of remake where the characters just become talking pieces in service of the meta-narrative, spouting cryptic nonsense and going along with weird spacial nonsense and fighting purely symbolic monsters leading to an epic fight with Sepheroth where it references the finale of the original game and the scope and impact of the fight is more epic and catastrophic than anything in the original blowing the power progression and pacing way out of proportion because part 1 had to end with a humongous bang rather than a paced in-character climax. I know I’m kinda harping on the game a bit too much, It’s just a bit scary seeing the originals perfect pacing and progression turned into something approaching the convolutions of Kingdom Hearts, which shouldn’t be surprising considering Tetsuya Nomura directed both games. Now there are some people who are super into these insanely complicated games that sacrifice realism for the sake of symbolism and have deep complicated narratives to tell. Personally I prefer simple narratives and themes with complicated characters. The more mystical Mumbai jumbo and weird symbolic dialogue that the characters spout out of nowhere the harder it is for my smooth brain to keep track of. I remember watching this video where this guy goes into like a 4 hour retrospection of the series and ties it into all the weird convoluted elements of the remake and I could appreciate everything that the game implemented and built upon and I thought it was awesome that some people could get this hyped about those elements, but those elements really make me feel like I’m not gonna enjoy the remake on the same level as the original. At the very least, I feel like because of the direction they’ve gone with the remake people should really play the original before going into this. Though maybe the payoff will end of being better than I imagine going into this blind. I haven’t played part 2 yet and I don’t know how that went. I don’t have a good enough PC to play it. I’m surprised I could play the first game. I found a executable online that somehow downgrades the graphics and my sucky PC could handle it perfectly aside from it crashing a few times and some occasional lag. I’m not gonna chance it with part 2 until I have an actual gaming PC though. Anyways, I wish you the best and I really hope that whatever route you take you have a lovely experience with this series.
I have plans to play the original in the near future since remake part 2 might not be on pc for some time, and after that maybe crisis core, but I appreciate your perspective on the series, really interesting to see. Thanks for watching the video :)
I bought ps4 after they announced remake, I bought ps5 because of Rebirth, ff7 always be my most favourite ff. But ofcourse there are alot of great sony exclusive and 3rd party games I play along 💯
How did i watch and enjoy every minute of this video Literally, I played remake because of Cloud and Sephiroth's introduction into Smash Ultimate, and then fell in love with ffvii remake and all of its characters. It's so tempting to buy a PS5 just for rebirth. I can't wait for it to be released on Steam. It was awesome to see you replay and love the game, as I did when I first played it. I love this game

Altho only a small note, be sure to check out reviews when pc version is out since square is notorious for butchering pc ports. Remake had some issues at launch, not sure if they got fixed or not, so not sure if they will make rebirth their first good port or not.
Remake isn't a remake, ironically, it's a sequel. So your friend being mad at things happening that didn't don't make sense in that context, though it's of course an easy thing not to know going into it.
This may be considered a spoiler so just in case: While I do like remake and feel that newcomers CAN play it without playing the OG it is important to note (and maybe it comes across to new players too IDK) that Remake makes more sense as a SEQUEL to ff7 as well as a remake.........think of like, the first JJ Abrahams Star Trek movie and you'd have a similar kind of idea. You do get so much MORE out of Remake if you do play or have at least a general understanding of the events that take place in the original ff7 game and the other games in the world of FF7.

It's a retelling of the original story(since it's a 1997 game and some games that was released at the time didn't aged well to now) with some characters throughout the compilation for those who are with the series since the original or those who are returning to Final Fantasy VII ever since the original came out and improvements/quality of life changes that were lacking in the original when it first came out

If you walk by the old dude while you’re sneaking out in the middle of the night, you can overhear him telling someone how much of a good time he had meeting moggie and the other kids. Cloud knows what he’s doing
Yeah this! Everyone says that Cloud is a jerk but he did it because he wants to make the old guy realize he still has the energy to have some fun. Even the guy next to him tells you "you're a real dick, y'know, but on the bright side, it seems he's all fired up again" confirming that was Cloud's plan all along.
I wouldn’t worry abt making sense with the whispers, and the ending. You’re meant to be confuse-since it’s a trilogy. All you need to know is the current context you have now- they are the physical manifestation of fate, summoned by the life stream (the planet) Only Aerith, and Sephiroth have the ability to see what their fate is. So every time someone tries to change fate-the whispers would come, and correct it, like Barrett dying- he’s destined to live and save the planet. By beating the whispers: Cloud, and the gang are free from destiny, and are now choosing their own paths. For older fans is to let us know that the story gonna have changes. That’s all you need to know for now.
There's a hidden little mechanic in the game, not sure how many know about it - Rude will almost always target Tifa last and only if everyone else is dead because he has a crush on her

Feels like a breathof fresh air, to find someone who appreciates how amazing Remake is. With all the weirdos hating Remake/Rebirth, using arguments that show that those people didn't really even touch the OG for at least last decade, it's really special to find someone who sees this game the way it is! Love it! Recently I've just beaten the OG again for god knows which time, beaten Remake for the fourth time, and playing through Rebirth for the second time. All are absolutely amazing, each one deserves tons of love

Just started my Saturday morning watching this off my recommended page, such a great video. Glad you’re now a fan of the game and hopefully the series after you play Rebirth. When it got to the Tonberry part and you were joking that it wasn’t doing much I could not stop laughing at what I knew was about to happen.
Loved this!!! Always fun to see someone play through this and genuinely engage with the little details that make it special. Hope you're able to play Rebirth when it releases on PC! It addresses so many of the issues in Remake (ex. pacing, side quests, aerial combat) and elevates the parts that were already solid (especially character interactions and story delivery).

Yeah sorry about that, the originally video title was somewhere between this one and "first time player explains ff7". This one ended up doing a bit better so I left it as this, although the intro I had originally planned for this title was lost. I essentially just had no interest or care for any square enix games and so I was against them (probably had something to do with that awful avengers game they made). But, because ff7's characters interested me since they are EVERYWHERE in online media, I decided to try the game. It also was on sale and on pc so that added to it. I did play the yuffie chapter but thought it would have added even more length to the video and made it even more confusing lmao. Yuffie is one of the most fun characters to play though I will say.

We OG fans sometimes I don't even question them anymore, but your fresh perspective provided surprising insights on someone who is experiencing this game in a bubble. Your comment on whether Red also got Sephiroth flashbacks got me sending. Anyway, I sometimes heard guest voices and a few of them seem to know the OG? They just stopped by your streams or is that more of regular things, that you guys stream/play together?
Yeah a good amount of my playthrough since it was over several days was recorded in discord voice chats with different friends or sometimes solo. I would stream the game to them while playing and my one friend Lucas had played the game before and the original, so having his live reaction to some of my reactions I thought was entertaining. Any other voices heard throughout just happened to be in the call at the time for better or worse lmao. But I am glad you liked the video, I had no idea what I was getting into and was very happy with the result.

In my opinion they did a good adaptation but because of this adaptation of something so old, things are still weird sometimes right? From your commentary at least I can see a lot of "why is it like this particularly?" moments and I am sure there are a lot of more that didn't make it into the video...

But I still think the video has most of the main things and my reactions to them. That's just the cons of condensing a 30+ hour game into 2 and a half hours.

I loved how you were constantly questioning what is real and what isn't. Like cloud has a headache and sees sephiroth and you are like ok he's not really there, but then sometimes other characters could see him and you were like "oh wait maybe he is there. But no hes flying and stuff, what is happening?" You're reaction is great and it is what you should be thinking lol. I hope you play part 2 and can put together more of what is happening. Rebirth is 10x better than this game, it blows it out of the water. I dig how you edited this whole game down to a few hours, very good.

the thing about the whispers/arbiters of fate is that, they are trying to force the story to go the way the original game story went. you could say they are like the embodiment of the purists, who want a 1-1 remake.
because, and this is the twist, this game is not a "REmake" its a "reMAKE". As in the same story being remade to fit a new narrative. basically imagine that this game is set in a parallel universe to the original game, and sephiroth from the original game, after being defeated, managed to hop into this "timeline" and is trying to change things so he can win in the end.
and by the end of this game, that's what he managed to do, take over the arbiters of fate, so HE can run the story in a way that benefits him.
its a play on the the word remake, as both a rethread of the same story, but also, a rebuild of that story in a diferent way.
which is also why sephiroth shows up to cloud earlier than he was "supposed to" because, that's the OG 1997 game version of sephiroth. manipulating cloud so things go his way.
this is why the whispers hurt jessie's leg, because in the OG game, cloud is supposed to go to that mission, not her, but in here, Barret didnt trust him enough so he wasnt gonna bring him, which forced them to act, and make sure cloud went with barret and tifa to blow the second reactor.
basically, everytime they act, its them trying to "course correct" the story back to its default progression. but sephiroth keeps messing with things.

I just did some research and it seems they patched the game early this year and changed the line to this one. Apparently it is more accurate to the Japanese translation they said, very interesting indeed.

Yeah they added that right before Rebirth released as I guess the developers felt it fit better and was a direct English translation of what she said in the Japanese voice lines of the game.
I'm pretty sure the final scene is meant to make more sense if you played the original. The whole point of the scene is that they're "defying destiny woooo" and not explicitly redoing the events of the original game, presumably to keep the stakes high for those who did play it. (which I did recently)

cloud being an inconsistent character, i mean, yeah, that's his character alright. due to spoiler reasons just accept that, it makes logical sense when you discover the truth... IN PART 3!!!!! also no, its not a joke, this is a massive character detail that is explained in the last part of the story(of the original game, and the third game will talk about it).

First time watcher of your channel here. This game was my entrance into FF7. Played it last year in 2023. I fell in love with it. And it made me get a PS5 just to get rebirth. So the reason for the Cloud dress stuff is because in the original, you had to sneak into Corneo's mansion as well, but you had to go around town finding different pieces of the disguise. A wig, the dress, and undergarments that you take from a gentlemen's club. It's one of those things where it hasn't aged well (there's quite a few of those in the OG), in a 'Haha look at the man in the dress look at how emasculated he is' kind of way (it was also the 90's...). Leading up to this games release, people were wondering if they would include Cloud being in a dress at all, because it is something people remember from the game, but times have changed it might not be as accepted now as it was then.
They managed to find a way to include it in a way that's respectful, entertaining, but also managed to eclipse the original imo.
It was amazing and probably one of my favorite parts of the game. The entirety of wall market was exceptional.
I loved how they did it but I was so shocked to see cloud DANCING
"aerith seems to know something about whats going on" this isnt a 1:1 remake, its changed. essentially the beginning of the game where you see aerith open her eyes, shes gaining memories from the lifestream. Aerith knows EVERYTHING.
However its now confirmed via Rebirth that she had SOME future knowledge which has now been taken away by the Whispers. So as of the end of Remake she no longer knows the future.
I found it impressive that he picked up on that immediately without any context of the OG.
Brianna White did a great job with aerith and she’s great friends with the voice actor of Barrett, which he doesn’t look like his big character lol
Aerith was definitely my favorite character in the game, voice acting was insanely well done by her as well.
@@MilkManSteve yeah she spent four years on making those parts they kept changing things certain wordings so forth as she was playing it on rebel gaming she described how things went and her difficulties with some of the stuff it was amazing she’d never played Final Fantasy until she started voicing aerith and she got hooked lol

Doing all of the quests in Sector 7 and Sector 5 gets you more than gil and items, they also determine the dresses that Tifa and Aerith gets in Wall Market. Completing all the quests in Sector 7 allows you to pick Tifa's dress ("Something mature/exotic/sporty") and the more you do in 5 determines how fancy Aerith's dress is.
Also, the original FF7 Honeybee Inn and its development is insane. It's a love hotel in the original, which is still less scandalous in that it was originally planned as a brothel.
I love how we all have the same reaction to Rufus and Cloud's dynamic. There's def smth going on there 😂 and they step it up even more in the 2nd part. Can't wait to see you play it

I'm not seeing an explanation in the comments, so I guess I'll give it for anyone curious.
The FF7 Remake games are sort of these "spin-off remix sequels", not one-to-one recreations of the original FF7 game. The original came out years ago, and many of the biggest twists have become common knowledge, which means the story would have less of the intended impact on new players. So, they decided to flip the idea of a "remake" on it's head, with the subtitle having a double meaning.
That being said, the premise in FF7 Remake is that Sephiroth, the one from the end of the OG game, somehow gets sent back to the start to relive the events. This first part is literally him goading Cloud and friends into defeating fate, so that he can eventually win the actual final battle. Aerith either always had premonitions, and hid them better in the OG game, or she got the ability here as a way to counter Sephiroth own foresight. Regardless, that's the reason they're acting differently (OG Sephiroth wouldn't really know Cloud exists at this point, and we wouldn't learn he is even still alive until President Shinra gets stabbed) and dropping hints/foreshadowing for OG game events ("You can't fall in love with me", "I see you failed again", etc.).
It's actually kind of cool. With destiny itself defeated, the players no longer have the original's plot to rely on. We no longer know if or which characters will die, if certain scenes will still occur, or if things will go completely off-the-rails. And a lot of effort was put into crafting this new take, which they didn't have to do, so that the Remake games can, decades from now, be remembered as more than just "the newer, prettier one".

Also, the humanoid cat with the crown that shows up when the plate falls is a character that is introduced later in FF7, and is just making a cameo here. It's name is "Cait Sith", which is from Scottish folklore ("cait sith" literally means "fairy cat"), and is actually pronounced like "caught shee".
The "Remake" in the title has true hidden meaning - less of a video game remake, it's more a description of the new game's contents, which itself is closer to being a sequel. It's not the video game that is getting remade; it's the world, the story and the fate of the characters.

I don't know if this is a controversial or unpopular opinion, but I didn't like chadley very much, and I also forgot to do his stuff. So, not only did I not like him much, but he also got neglected on accident. All in all, probably my bad.

@MilkManSteve I didn't bother with Chadly in remake, I don't care about arena and challenge stuff. Unfortunately, he must be one of the executives' favorite characters because they make certain you don't forget about him or miss him in Rebirth. Rare materia and summons are locked behind his area scan missions and memory games. And everytime you look through his menu or do a scan or something he bugs you about world data. Imagine if Purah or Zelda kept calling you on the tablet reminding you to go to the divine beast or to city every time you finish ruin or subquest?

Not playing this game with ambient subtitles should be punishable by stoning. The Midgar citizens never stop worldbuilding, telling jokes, or commenting on current events, they’re such a great aspect of the game. Really harkening back to old RPG’s where nearly every npc had something to say.
I listened to them plenty don't worry, I'm just not a big subtitle guy, but the citizens quips and talking was one of my favorite features 100%.
As far as sephiroth appearing early.
Part of it is the pacing difference in the remake, but for the longest time, you never see sephiroth, except in the kalm flashback. You get imprisoned by Shinra, sephiroth assassinates shinra’s president. You have to learn to catch chocobos to outrun a monster to progress that you have very little chance at defeating in combat, you find another of that monster brutally impaled on a tree from when sephiroth went through here.
Basically, whatever roadblocks you face, you see that sephiroth did it first, and with enough ease that he could be theatrical about it.
The remake took the first couple hours of the game and made a full standalone title out of it
12:40 Middle class civilians also live on the top plates, making the dynamic more interesting. It isn't like just 1% of the people getting all the good stuff and ignoring everyone else. It's people like everyday citizens also living on top and enjoying the benefits of mako. For example, Jessie's family, who lives in a very average suburban area on top of the plates, and who's father was literally a blue collar worker doing a dangerous job, not just some elite born out of generational wealth.

Loved watching someone experience it fresh! They did a phenomenal job remaking the OG, kept/expanded the good stuff while fixing the bad stuff. However I still like the og more cus of the story being in 1 game and without the "fate" stuff (Opinon subject to change depending on Rebirth/Part 3). I'm also waiting for Rebirth to come to PC, been dying to play it. I'd highly recommend playing the OG at some point (before or after) depending on if you want to experience all 3 remakes first, or go into them knowing what would have happened, seeing as they will probably change the story a bit, up to you. @@MilkManSteve I really recommed it, I played the OG a month before Remake and it made me appreciate it so much more. It enhances the experience a ton and is just a really good game by itself. The graphics are something you get used to after a while, but if playing it doesn't work out well, there are many good playthroughs on UA-cam. Very much worth checking out.
@@MilkManSteve Remake is rather newcomer friendly, but Rebirth very much expects you to know the events of the original game, as well as Crisis Core and The First Soldier storyline from the Ever Crisis mobile game. That's a big reason why all three of those storylines are in Ever Crisis, and why Crisis Core got a modern remaster
Crisis Core is a big fat SPOILER to anyone who haven't finished OG FF7's story. Not recommended for newcomers.

FF7 Remake was a very special game for me at the time since its what introduced me to the OG FF7, which is now currently my favourite game of all time.Though Rebirth has got to be my 2nd favourite video game of all time, right beside the OG. Its genuinely so fun to play and the pacing is wayyy better than remake. It has my favorite gameplay from a RPG, and since its adapting the best part of the OG games story, it lends to the whole experience being so special. I've fallen so deeply in love with the franchise in the past 4 years now, and Im so happy to see a new fan join the ride : )

Edit:I watch the whole video. Man it's really fun watching someone whose positive about the game. All the streamers that got early copy complain so much that I decided to not play the game. The OG fandom war not happy with "ghost thingy". Sephiroth showing up every 5 second and the astronomical amount of padding. Yikes.

A lot of people don’t realize that a lot of these quests that they’re doing in remake Connect with what happens in rebirth if they don’t do all the missions they miss out on who the characters are
Basically nothing that happened in the final chapter happened in the original game. They just get away from Shinra, then walk away to leave Midgar and look for Sephiroth.
Essentially Sephiroth seems to have some kind of foreknowledge of FF7's story, and is looking to eliminate whatever forces would make it play out the same way again... which he succeeded at, since you and the party basically gambled on being able to kill Sephiroth early if you killed fate, and doing so apparently altered the events of... either the past, or the events of another timeline??? In a weird way this game is essentially a sequel to final fantasy 7, about the story of FF7 getting fucked up, which just happens to involve re-telling a lot of Final Fantasy 7 along the way.
It's really worth it to play the original game, even if its translation is janky as hell.
I think I will play the original at some point just to see what it was like. But yeah I think I understand a bit of "why" the ending happened how it did but some of the actions and events are still insane or confusing, but I think I understand enough to be ready for the sequel.
@@MilkManSteve It's definitely still confusing and overwhelming even WITH foreknowledge, but a good chunk of it becomes confusing in an exciting way if, say, you know who the heck the black haired guy is.
Fun fact and subtle hint, though, you catch a glimpse of Stamp the Shinra propoganda cartoon dog on a wrapper in a scene with the black haired guy, and it's a different breed of dog from the one we see in the rest of the game.

Great video man. I had a similar experience when I first played this game. I was only able to play a little of the OG game because my dad's computer got damaged and had to be replaced. I also had a Wii U and that console didn't have an FF VII OG port. When this remake project came out, I unfortunately already knew about some major plot details from the OG game. Even still, I had a lot of fun playing this game, and the new story elements, while very confusing and convoluted, still managed to keep me invested. I can't wait for you to play Rebirth. You're going to love it!
I'm glad you liked it, I'm super excited for rebirth to come out, the pc release can't come soon enough.
So here’s what I kind wha t want to say about this compared to the original.
The original game had plenty of flaws and annoyances, but altogether it was a really neat tight experience. The story spanned a huge world and had a decent amount of characters, yet had a clear direction the whole way through. Every main character gets to work through something and the commentary and theming is top notch. Plus I kind of like turn based RPGs, while some people don’t. Anyways, there’s a reason it’s a classic like Chrono Trigger. The breadth of the world, novelty of the mechanics, complexity of the characters, and clear direction and theming of the story come together to create something that many view as nominal.
The remake actually does a lot of things right. It takes the characters and fleshes them out really well while being the to their original characterization. The combat is its one thing, but it incorporates the concept of the ATB bar really well by making the hard hitting attacks tied to it and more importantly keeps the strengths of the materia system despite its changes.
Now my gripes. The pacing felt a little weird with the first like 10% of the original game encompassing the whole first game. Like yay, they’re fleshing things out, but because they don’t want to wait to tackle the wider narrative they sort of spoil a lot of the themes present in the latter portions of the original as well as some huge revelations that your not supposed to have until around endgame. It made me feel kind of like the game was too eager to spoil newcomers so they couldn’t have those hard hitting moments from the original where the subtle clues and weird occurrences paid off.
Second of all, while I loved the combat, I felt like I wasn’t given the chance to engross myself in it. This might be a problem with me, but I can handle cutscenes and the like, but when the ratio of character moments and cutscenes to gameplay goes past 50:50 it starts to make everything drag for me. I have all these cool mechanics, but I have to wade through so much to get to them, plus there are very rarely any good places to grind and when your given the opportunity it’s usually not that good of one. I don’t know, maybe I like grinding a bit too much.
Thirdly and the thing that sullied the remake the most for me is the meta narrative elements. I’m not wholly against the idea, but I feel like how it’s implemented turns a few meaningful elements front he original on their head and also adds a lot of weird contrivances that makes everything really complicated and alienates newcomers even more. Like, I think the game expects you to have played Crisis Core with the character Zack and his backstory being so prominent. He does appear in the original game but is part of a huge story element that I feel like the remake is glossing over or is at least not hurting the impact of with its constant references and allusions
There’s also Sepheroth appearing 24/7. In the original he was this looming pretense that you only ever saw hints of and the carnage he left behind. The game built him up a lot and the first time we actually see him is the sequence that the opening of the second game adapts. In the original Cloud was basically nothing to Sepheroth, but in the remake Sepheroth has nothing better to do than to antagonize and harass cloud at every turn and while this might make sense where the meta-narrative is concerned, I feel like it’s ruins elements of the actual narrative. That’s what I’m getting at with this point. The meta-narrative doesn’t really respect the finer elements of the original narrative. Even then, it’s never too intrusive until he end of remake where the characters just become talking pieces in service of the meta-narrative, spouting cryptic nonsense and going along with weird spacial nonsense and fighting purely symbolic monsters leading to an epic fight with Sepheroth where it references the finale of the original game and the scope and impact of the fight is more epic and catastrophic than anything in the original blowing the power progression and pacing way out of proportion because part 1 had to end with a humongous bang rather than a paced in-character climax.
I know I’m kinda harping on the game a bit too much, It’s just a bit scary seeing the originals perfect pacing and progression turned into something approaching the convolutions of Kingdom Hearts, which shouldn’t be surprising considering Tetsuya Nomura directed both games.
Now there are some people who are super into these insanely complicated games that sacrifice realism for the sake of symbolism and have deep complicated narratives to tell. Personally I prefer simple narratives and themes with complicated characters. The more mystical Mumbai jumbo and weird symbolic dialogue that the characters spout out of nowhere the harder it is for my smooth brain to keep track of. I remember watching this video where this guy goes into like a 4 hour retrospection of the series and ties it into all the weird convoluted elements of the remake and I could appreciate everything that the game implemented and built upon and I thought it was awesome that some people could get this hyped about those elements, but those elements really make me feel like I’m not gonna enjoy the remake on the same level as the original. At the very least, I feel like because of the direction they’ve gone with the remake people should really play the original before going into this. Though maybe the payoff will end of being better than I imagine going into this blind. I haven’t played part 2 yet and I don’t know how that went. I don’t have a good enough PC to play it. I’m surprised I could play the first game. I found a executable online that somehow downgrades the graphics and my sucky PC could handle it perfectly aside from it crashing a few times and some occasional lag. I’m not gonna chance it with part 2 until I have an actual gaming PC though.
Anyways, I wish you the best and I really hope that whatever route you take you have a lovely experience with this series.
I have plans to play the original in the near future since remake part 2 might not be on pc for some time, and after that maybe crisis core, but I appreciate your perspective on the series, really interesting to see. Thanks for watching the video :)
I bought ps4 after they announced remake, I bought ps5 because of Rebirth, ff7 always be my most favourite ff. But ofcourse there are alot of great sony exclusive and 3rd party games I play along 💯

Literally, I played remake because of Cloud and Sephiroth's introduction into Smash Ultimate, and then fell in love with ffvii remake and all of its characters. It's so tempting to buy a PS5 just for rebirth. I can't wait for it to be released on Steam. It was awesome to see you replay and love the game, as I did when I first played it.

Altho only a small note, be sure to check out reviews when pc version is out since square is notorious for butchering pc ports. Remake had some issues at launch, not sure if they got fixed or not, so not sure if they will make rebirth their first good port or not.

Remake isn't a remake, ironically, it's a sequel. So your friend being mad at things happening that didn't don't make sense in that context, though it's of course an easy thing not to know going into it.

While I do like remake and feel that newcomers CAN play it without playing the OG it is important to note (and maybe it comes across to new players too IDK) that Remake makes more sense as a SEQUEL to ff7 as well as a remake.........think of like, the first JJ Abrahams Star Trek movie and you'd have a similar kind of idea.
You do get so much MORE out of Remake if you do play or have at least a general understanding of the events that take place in the original ff7 game and the other games in the world of FF7.

This is a good game with some bad ideas mixed into it. I've also come around to liking it after thinking it was not very good when it came out. I dont know if i will ever get around to rebirth but remake is a pretty solid rpg.

It's a retelling of the original story(since it's a 1997 game and some games that was released at the time didn't aged well to now) with some characters throughout the compilation for those who are with the series since the original or those who are returning to Final Fantasy VII ever since the original came out and improvements/quality of life changes that were lacking in the original when it first came out

If you walk by the old dude while you’re sneaking out in the middle of the night, you can overhear him telling someone how much of a good time he had meeting moggie and the other kids.

Yeah this! Everyone says that Cloud is a jerk but he did it because he wants to make the old guy realize he still has the energy to have some fun. Even the guy next to him tells you "you're a real dick, y'know, but on the bright side, it seems he's all fired up again" confirming that was Cloud's plan all along.
Cloud is a lot smarter and emotionally intelligent than he lets on.

I wouldn’t worry abt making sense with the whispers, and the ending. You’re meant to be confuse-since it’s a trilogy. All you need to know is the current context you have now- they are the physical manifestation of fate, summoned by the life stream (the planet) Only Aerith, and Sephiroth have the ability to see what their fate is. So every time someone tries to change fate-the whispers would come, and correct it, like Barrett dying- he’s destined to live and save the planet. By beating the whispers: Cloud, and the gang are free from destiny, and are now choosing their own paths. For older fans is to let us know that the story gonna have changes. That’s all you need to know for now.

With all the weirdos hating Remake/Rebirth, using arguments that show that those people didn't really even touch the OG for at least last decade, it's really special to find someone who sees this game the way it is! Recently I've just beaten the OG again for god knows which time, beaten Remake for the fourth time, and playing through Rebirth for the second time. All are absolutely amazing, each one deserves tons of love

Loved this!!! Always fun to see someone play through this and genuinely engage with the little details that make it special.
Hope you're able to play Rebirth when it releases on PC! It addresses so many of the issues in Remake (ex. pacing, side quests, aerial combat) and elevates the parts that were already solid (especially character interactions and story delivery).

...Hi, I'm new here, in case you couldn't tell. UA-cam recommended this video for me, probably because I consume a lot of Final Fantasy VII content. It was quite a pleasant watch this Sunday afternoon!
Yeah sorry about that, the originally video title was somewhere between this one and "first time player explains ff7". This one ended up doing a bit better so I left it as this, although the intro I had originally planned for this title was lost. I essentially just had no interest or care for any square enix games and so I was against them (probably had something to do with that awful avengers game they made). But, because ff7's characters interested me since they are EVERYWHERE in online media, I decided to try the game. It also was on sale and on pc so that added to it. Sorry if the title was misleading, I'm glad you seemed to like the video though, means a lot to me. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask :)

I did play the yuffie chapter but thought it would have added even more length to the video and made it even more confusing lmao. Yuffie is one of the most fun characters to play though I will say.

OMG I loved this playthrough of yours. Your commentary was just too real on the strange things/choices that happen in this game. We OG fans sometimes I don't even question them anymore, but your fresh perspective provided surprising insights on someone who is experiencing this game in a bubble. Your comment on whether Red also got Sephiroth flashbacks got me sending.
Anyway, I sometimes heard guest voices and a few of them seem to know the OG? They just stopped by your streams or is that more of regular things, that you guys stream/play together?
Yeah a good amount of my playthrough since it was over several days was recorded in discord voice chats with different friends or sometimes solo. I would stream the game to them while playing and my one friend Lucas had played the game before and the original, so having his live reaction to some of my reactions I thought was entertaining. Any other voices heard throughout just happened to be in the call at the time for better or worse lmao. But I am glad you liked the video, I had no idea what I was getting into and was very happy with the result.
@@MilkManSteve That's pretty cool. It definitely set the vibe of how you played the game, and showed that the game can be enjoyable in a more "I don't take this all too seriously" surrounding. In my opinion they did a good adaptation but because of this adaptation of something so old, things are still weird sometimes right? From your commentary at least I can see a lot of "why is it like this particularly?" moments and I am sure there are a lot of more that didn't make it into the video...
@@birchgarden2238 There were a couple less important parts cut out and some times where I just forgot to record something that didn't make the final cut. But I still think the video has most of the main things and my reactions to them. That's just the cons of condensing a 30+ hour game into 2 and a half hours.
