Vanny hurts me the most because I really invested in how her character would play out ever since Help Wanted. Someone taking up Afton's role in an "obsessed serial killer fan" type of deal could have made for a fascinating and unique antagonist in the franchise. Sucks that she's nothing more than a glorified cameo in Security Breach with about as much importance to the overall story as Goddamn Sun/Moondrop.

True. I just hate that they sterilized everything so much that the story is completely nonsensical and vague. Yes, the game technically has a story but everything is so disjointed and disconnected because of the removed extra content to a point where it's uncompleted. And it sucks because they left everything in that would've connected these extra lore-related plot lines, so now there's a bunch of different yet interesting details that are never elaborated upon or explored.

If Vanny was the sole antagonist of Security Breach while the other animatronics except for Freddy were mere distractions that the player had to worry about then she would probably have had a better showing, similarly like how it was in Fnaf 3 with SpringTrap. The other animatronics could of been shifting between friendly and enemy or act as unwitting enemies by having their protocols act as a hindrance in otherwise helpful situations. Or have them neutral to both Vanny and Gregory being confused by their orders and have choices on the play though that could sway them towards either.

I think the worst type of villain is the kind where you can see precisely what they were going for and how the don't take the time to evolve them properly into who they're meant to be.
That's part of the reason twist villains tend to fail, because some movies/games/shows don't take the time to lay out the motivations bit by bit leading up to the reveal.
Or Heaven forbid, the sympathetic villain who you know at the end is going to have a redemption that *could* have happened at any point but they hold their antagonism until the very end before dying. Usually just to drag out one conflict for the sake of conflict, and you're just waiting for the "I was wrong" moment. (Definitely not thinking about Phin from Spider-Man Miles Morales)

An idea I've always had to fix Rose's motivations was to switch the Main Story Plot with the Post Story Plot.
Have the Royal Brothers be the main antagonists and their shenanigans causes Eternatus to awaken from the Power Plant chamber and absorb Dynamax Energy from all over Galar to restore its original form and bring about the Darkest Day.
You can still have Rose as the main antagonist for the Post Game Plot. He tries to keep the situation under control as best he can, but ultimately fails and has to rely on the Player Character and their friends to stop Eternatus.
This change no longer makes Rose out to be an idiot and plays up his actual admirable traits, like how much he cares for the Galar Region.

Why Pokemon decided 1000 years was a good one is beyond me. It makes Rose look like an impatient whiney baby who can't wait like half a day to get Leon's full attention after the battle. Hell, they could've even play into the long time frame. Have Rose be scared that even if it's a couple centuries off, he doesn't know when the point of no return is and that Leon shrugging off the crisis could snowball into being a constant issue of him valuing other things more than Galar's future. This sounds pretty far fetched, but the story of Sonic Forces could've been the best Sonic story game wise at the time. But of course it was handled so poorly no could take the plot points seriously, especially when the characters don't reflect on what's stated.
For example previously stated how much power Infinite had, if it was shown everytime how much he can change the landscapes where us the player are going through and we have to clutch our way to win almost every time. That claim would actually hold weight.
Another example of this was "Sonic is being tortured by Eggman nonstop after his capture."
Sonic: *Making wise cracking jokes like any other day
Me: "How is Sonic being tortured? Maybe from boredom, but nothing physical or psychological. "
Yeah at that point, I just felt lied to by the game every step of the way.
(Love how the writer for Frontiers acknowledged that shitty portrayal of Tails and made it work on how he still has a long way to go for how inconsistent he is when it comes to bravery. A decent writer would've retcon that moment and that will be fine with me. So I give even more credit to actually still addressing it so everyone won't be so decisive of the storyline as a whole.)

If Vanny would have been shown in some cutscenes between your adventure, maybe instead of only focusing on Gregory but also on Vanessa and Vanny, she could have been portrayed a lot better with her slowly losing her mind to Afton and becoming Vanny fully. To where at the end, instead of facing of against 1, you need to look out of all the cleaning robots being tuend to Vanny illusions and makes the ending area a challenge to get through of.
Akechi could have been fixed aswell, just unsure how to do it best myself.
Rose should have been shown that instead of simply wanting to use Eternatus for power, he had already began using many other Pokemon aswell, draining them off all their life and killing them. As once you find that out, he explains he was right about it ending in a thousand years. Yet that was with the Pokemon he used as juice, and after freeing those, the time left went down from thousand of years to hours left. Making him more of a villain, yet also making it make sense why he was so willing to do it then.
The RE4 Remake should have kept most of the interactions from the original, letting it keep the same tone, yet give the player the option to turn them off or ignore them to give it a serious tone still. Aka 2 versions to experience the story.
And finally, Infinite...He has no easy fix, but Imma try. Have Eggman trick him, into thinking Shadow was Sonic, Infinite and the Avatar being friends before he turned to Eggman's side, have Infinite slowly over the course of the game find out the truth behind Eggman's lies, and end the game by having Infinite figure out the truth of Shadow beating him up, yet Sonic protecting Shadow, and swear war on all of Team Sonic aswell, using all the might of the Phantom Ruby to turn the fight to a mind fuck scenario where you won't know what is real and fake

Have him randomly appear while you’re moving about Alma style(appearing just in the corner of your eye. Whether close or at a distance but then disappearing the moment you move your camera on them) throughout the entire game. Maybe have whispers randomly throughout the game. You could have things like a random tentacle being quickly pulled away. You can even have hallucinations like blood pouring from fountains or a candle randomly going or or the screen looking slightly off. Certain things that could happen once and probably never again, even in future playthroughs. Even Ashley could suffer, having her randomly walk towards the enemy to be grabbed or panic and run around the area. You can have their veins well up when it happens. Something to show that while he might not be there in person, his influence can be felt. Some Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem X F.E.A.R. level insanity since this is meant to be the more creepier version of RE 4.

Japanese media in particular is falling victim to villains falling flat because of the "liking a character doesn't need to include liking them as a person" point made here. It's largely because of the market being heavily geared towards stuff like mobile games, where the most marketable characters will tend to be available as a player character or otherwise are aiming to sell merch so a lot of them have their rough edges smoothed over in an attempt to make the audience not have a visceral dislike towards them, but that actually can tend to make them less engaging as characters. This is probably why it's more Japanese franchises where you see villains who have a lot of potential but end up falling flat (as opposed to just being lackluster villains who never really had the chance to be memorable like the "standard Marvel movie villain"), the writers are in an environment where villains who commit to being full-on villainous are throwaways. They overstay their welcome and lose their impact.

He had some good things going on for his story initially, and was a legitimate threat on par with what we'd faced thus far, and his arc was wrapped up succinctly. However, he was brought back after a few years because the devs had already had us kill the Sith Emporer 3 or 4 times by then. As antagonists go, one can argue that you kind of jump the shark with an immortal parasite with an arguably justifiable god complex, so bringing back a seditionist feels inadequate.

I loved Akechi. He really worked a lot for me.
The auto confidant ranks, to me at least, were because I assumed Akechi would be almost a worse Makoto. Where hes a thorn in the teams side that tries everything he can to figure out who is apart of the Phantom Thieves. I already got spoiled he'd be playable so I assumed all this was leading up to him going back on the BS he spewed on TV about the Phantom Thieves being anti-justice and seeing their side.
So when he turned out to be the killer of Haru's Dad it took me by surprise and worked a lot as a paraellel to the player since it shows just how badly revenge can taint a person. We both want revenge but Akechi is the only one actively hurting people to get it.
I think Akechi is great and actually became hard to predict his twist by having a similar thing as Makoto. Speaking out against the Phantom Thieves and foreshadowing him changing his ways due to actually having a Confidant.
I can see why you dislike him but him HAVING a automatic Confidant for most of the game honestly made me feel like his story role wouldnt be against us but with us

I feel like if they just explained what the phantom Ruby was and why Infinite needed it, like a life source or something, and why he wants to destroy Sonic he could’ve been done well instead of just being said as “created by Eggman” when in the comics he’s shown to be a jackal who got his squad wiped out by Shadow, but they introduced that late in the comics a year after the game came out, showing they never planned anything with Infinite and made things up as it went along. There’s legit no origin for the Phantom Ruby which really sucks considering it’s powers and abilities. Plus Infinite isn’t shown to be “the most powerful villain of all time” like Sonic Team states, you easily beat his ass multiple times with not only the rookie, who is untrained and weaker than fucking Tails, but gets easily beaten by Base Sonic, and all that is needed is a determined Base Sonic and the rookie to kill him, he only gets a win on Sonic when he jumps him with others. Other Sonic villains like Metal Madness requires the entire Sonic cast to defeat and when he grew to his next form, Metal Overlord, not just Super Sonic was needed, but Super Tails and Super Knuckles. They needed Super Sonic, Super Silver and Super Shadow to defeat Solaris, who was literally eating dimensions and destroying everything. But we don’t need a Super form to beat Infinite. You’re seriously telling me Infinite is stronger than Metal Overlord? Nuh uh, I don’t believe it

I will say that not every hero needs a good villain but what they do need is an intense challenge to overcome and the villain is often the personification of that. Sometimes the hero's greatest struggles are internal and the villain is merely a catalyst.
Though when your protagonist is a faceless voiceless interaction vector like Pokemon, the villain needs to do more of the heavy lifting and Sword and Shield fumbled hard.

Why the hell weren't they valid? Why... because those moves just got RETCONNED OUT OF EXISTENCE IN GEN VIII... including Pursuit, which was my Umbreon's bread-and-butter attack for all situations. Infinite as a villain is pathetic, how ever I think a proper rival for him could boost them both to grater heights. As for what Sonic Character I think would be best, it would be Emerl from Sonic Battle. As for how to get around them being dead, have it be revealed that Tails have been hunting down his peaces and putting him back together. As for the issue with him needing the Chaos emeralds to power on and his Over powerness, I have a simple solution to both. Have Emerl new power source be fake Chaos Emeralds, the same one Tails made in Sonic Adventure 2 that Sonic was able to preform Chaos Control with. Tails can make more. They won't be as powerful as the stander Emeralds, but enough to put Emerl on par with the other main characters.
Both are basically ultimate weapons, but by different means. One a Robot on a side that mostly Organic, and the other an Organic on a side that mostly robots. One is the literal incarnation of 'My Friends are my Power' and the other is the incarnation of 'Edge Lord Lone Wolf'
The 2 are perfect rivals for one anther. And I bet nether would take the other Seriously leading banter where they both just look like silly idiots who's fights with one anther can level City Blocks if they are not careful.

I felt bad for Chairman Rose, not because he's a sympathetic villain, is because he's just so, pathetic. He felt more like a fall guy that GameFreak choose to play the big bad guy because there is no real antagonist, not at all not even a real rival. If you think about it team yell are just hooligans simping for their favorite trainer, because something great SWSH did was really turning the Pokémon League into a real spectator sport, and that was the real focus imo, but ofc this an RPG and you need a villain with a big godlike monster, so let´s tack this CEO guy with this lizard thing and we have a final confrontation.
I think that they really needed to flesh out Rose's plans and sense of urgency, it was weird he wanted to fix and issue that will happen in the next millenia, like yesterday, is he , seems like it, he wanted to be part of the books of history and speaking of history, all that plot about the legendary dogs and founders of Galar is totally on the background, and felt like a coincidence that those dogs were the only ones who can fight off Eternatus and apparently they sealed it before, but seriously, you are better off becoming the League Champion as that's the most fleshed out part especially because "the grown ups" didn't let you join their quest on saving Galar and discover its real origins.
BTW, maybe Oleana being the real villain would've worked better, I mean in some anime shorts you can see she's actually a scientist, and maybe she worked her way to the top to gaslight Chairman Rose to wake Eternatus with the idea of saving Galar but it was just her own twisted scientific curiosity that wanted to test the limits of that legendary beast, I mean I even like the idea of her team, mostly aesthetically pleasing and even "femenine" Pokémon, but not only her last one but also trump card Dynamax Pokémon, is a literal pile of garbage, maybe a good parallel with a more villanous Oleana, all graceful and formal on the outside, but in the inside a dark, morbid and selfish person who only cares about the pursuit of her own goals instead of the wellbeing of the public.
But in the end we have Chairman Rose being like, okay I'm turning in to the authorities and do some community service so I can go back being the CEO of my conglomerate and Galar's own Pokémon League in no time.

Infinite's power showcase issue also has a lot to do with one of the most glaring holes in Sonic Forces: the absence of the Chaos Emeralds. Mania implies that someone with the Phantom Ruby can go toe-to-toe with a super form as seen in Egg Reverie Zone and some even speculate that it can cancel the form. Secondly, ok, aside from obvious stuff that I already mentioned (hacking is a crime no matter how you look at it), thiefs is literally in their name. What they are doing is essentially no different from brainwashing. Yes, they do it only for corrupted people, but by doing so they literally take upon themselves a role of a God. As a Christian, I simply can’t support that. Furthermore, by doing so, they risk to actually kill a person. Yes, they try to avoid that, but accidents may happen.
Even worse, this changed person may even unalive themselves due to regret of all the actions they have done.
I don’t think that PT are villains, they are naive teenagers that undeniably want better for the world, but take too much upon their shoulders. And on a side note, the amount of times the phrase “corrupted adults” was used is ridiculous. Like teenagers can’t be corrupted, or adults - heroes. The world is bad not because of terrible adults, but because of terrible ourselves. To change the world we need to change ourselves first, and definitely not through brainwashing.

Add Sonic to Episode Shadow and show Infinite getting beaten by Sonic again and again until Eggman finds him and gives him the Phantom Ruby. Also have Infinite start out how he was portrayed in the Episode Shadow we got and have him transition into an actual serious threat who causes more destruction to the world rather than just killing some people and moving on.

Infinite is essentially Kylo Ren's fursona : ridiculously shallow, inplausible and haphazarded origin story to why he's evil and hates the heroes, stupid "edgy" design that's highly derivative of a better character (Revan/Vader or Mephiles), looks cool and near invincible at first, but then his power level flip flops whether the plot demands him to be "SO EDGY" or a complete joke, never reallys feels like he's in full control BECAUSE the heroes don't take him seriously and defeat him EVERYTIME he's on-screen, therefore his achievements are either off-screen or on-screen plot-induced stupidity. And lastly, gets shoved aside in the end unceremoniously in favour of an older, yet still soerely bastardized villain (Palpatine and Eggman).
His backstory is pitiful too : in the comic tie-in, he's a rando who's a complete nihilist who joins Eggman for the lolz, in Episode Shadow, he's a pathetic crybaby. Give us SOMETHING to believe this goof is "The Ultimate Mercenary", not just blurt it outloud and pretend us to roll with it.
I don't know, make him a rival to Fang or the Babylon Rogues in the bounty hunter guild, have a flashback to him and Jackal Squad running into Sonic, thus establishing a connection and a rivalry.
Nope, cartoon hedgehog, lol Baldy McNosehair, Boost to win. And it's not any better in Frontiers, by giving Eggman a cringe animu daughter or shoehorning a Dead Space Brethren Moon at the end with no build up.....

Lysandre had such a potential where Kalos (just like France) has riots everywhere. To fix Kalos, he organize the team Flare, developp a super weapon and overthrown the governemnent aka the elite 4 and the champion of the region.
This leads to choas where half of France is govern by team Flare, the elite 4 and the champion are held hostage by Lysandre and his general. You free some cities slowly but surely to free the elite 4 with the help of your friends.
Lysandre and his right hand man (Xavier) escape while his general are thrown in prison by Beladonis (forshadowing the post game).
Lysandre goes to his secret super weapon (with the legendary in the weapon) to gain back the upper hand, fails and locks himself in a bunker (that collapse onto itself because of the legendary outrage).
The place is destroyed, his general escapes jail leading to post-game where you play Beladonis and track down the remainer of team Flare for trial.
I know it's a bit to dark at some piont for a pokémon game but it would be a great call back to the history of France and could create a banger of a story

I could be way, way off base here, but Chairman Rose's incredibly lackluster motivation always reeked to me of "play it safe-ism", like at some point in development the energy crisis was going to be a more urgent problem, but someone at GameFreak took a look at the script and went "Whoa now! We don't want to offend anybody! This is far too extreme for our target demographic! We need to tone this WAY down!" Like, heaven forfend we lose the climate change denier market! We don't people to think Pokemon games are getting *gasp* POLITICAL! I know, it sounds ludicrous, attributing bad writing to a corporate conspiracy instead of just... bad writing. But media corporations are so obsessed with having as broad a demographic as possible these days. Look at how eagerly companies like Disney will try to court LGBTQ groups domestically, then throw representation out the window to appease the governments of countries like Russia and China. I don't think it's hard to believe that a message tame enough to appear on Captain Planet 30 years ago could be seen as a liability by a corporation today.

You have to do a video on Amanda the adventurer. It's one of the best mascot horror game ever in my opinion.

a hero is only as good as their villain. if the villain is a joke, the hero's feats feel simple. for kid shows and sillier things that's fine, but they still have a form of malice and still have a threat level behind them.
why those villains fail is because of how they are made

I fucking hate Aketchi. But thats a good thing actually. I think he's a well written character and its more the storytelling of the game that gets in the way of that sometimes. But he's a well written character. AND I FUCKING HATE HIM RAAAAAAAAAAH, but again that's a compliment, means he did his job well.
For characters like Vanny I'm kind of indiferent. They did bad things, therefore I should fucking despise them. Right? Or at least acknowledge them as a threat in their canon since you can love villains. But I don't. Her game fails to really make her seem like a threat, even though she very much is. Vanny just seems kinda goofy when shes supposed to be this menacing person, that has barely any of her story in her own game.

Rose was such a terrible villain, my brother and I thought he should have been a good guy.
Gen 8 should have been a tournament arc, change my mind.

The best way to generate power in the Pokemon series is just spinning tons of Magnetons around a bunch of coiled wires. His plan was a complete and total dumbass plan.

Klinks would work too. But overall it would be interesting if taming Eternatus was a bit more of a challenge. Have it be a chase from one power spot to another and try and catch him.
