去年全港出生的九萬四千名新生嬰兒中，父母均非香港居民的"雙非兒童"約佔四成六， 對本港公營醫療服務造成沉重壓力，影響更由新生嬰兒加護病房逐步蔓延至母嬰健康院及兒科服務。
醫管局兒科中央統籌委員會數據顯示，在內地居住、包括雙非和單非的十四歲以下港童，來港求醫比率佔公立醫院兒科服務兩成；使用昂貴治療如地中海貧血症的內地港童佔三分之二；來港治癌兒童過去五年激增四倍，兒科服務不勝負荷，醫生促減少內地孕婦產子名額及增加人手。
威爾斯親王醫院兒科部門主管李志光醫生指，雙非兒童增加了病房的使用率，近幾年趨勢更為明顯："過去三年，都有十三個是雙非兒童來香港做骨髓移植，平均每個都要一百萬，如果持續增長得太快，而配套未能應付，壓力將難以承受。"
至於本地媽媽亦深感雙非問題已越來越嚴重，兒科服務直接受到影響，希望新上任特首可以落實"零雙非"的承諾，做好人口政策，否則只會造成各種規劃錯配，出現更多的矛盾。

this is ridiculous. hk should close their border..but of course can't do that because of the chinese government. hk doesn't even have enough resource for its own people, why should it provide for those who aren't citizens?

Also, it should be noted that when the basic law in HK that was drafted before 1997, Chinese central government reminded HK government (governed by the UK then) of the possible risks to HK that allowing any baby born in HK would be HK citizens whatever background of their parents. At that time this reminder from Chinese central government was rejected by HK government and the current policy considering the HK-born as HK citizens. It is simply ridiculous of HK to blame the Chinese for this.
HK citizens are only happy by the fact that mainlanders contribute to the market by consuming luxuries. When HK suffered from financial crisis, mainland government paid quite a lot and carried out policies encouraging mainlanders to visit HK to stimulate the consumption. Consuming goods and visits of course pay taxes, which is never noticed by HK citizens. Hope more voices from mainland can be heard, as opposed to the increasingly more diffusion of such news from HK.
