5 megabytes upgradeable to 13 implies that they have 3 megabytes reserved for the OS.

The most interesting computer-based device was the CDTV, Commodore Dynamic Television. It was released in 1991 and was based on an Amiga 500 with an additional DMA chip and a weird single-speed-Caddy-CD-ROM. The design is great, you can put it right in your stereo system. It was delivered with an infrared controller, but could be upgraded to a full computer including hard drive. It has a video slot wich could even be used for an internal genlock. The CDTV also featured a new CD video streaming format, but the display was very small. The main problem was, the people didn't know what to do with a computer with CD-ROM in the living room. No floppy drive and keyboard supplied? Weird. Another problem was, that it was difficult to upgrade. So it mostly just had 1 MB RAM and the old Kickstart 1.3. Although it was very easy to modify Amiga software to CD-ROM, not many manufacturers did this. However, some CDTV titles are impressive for an 68000-based machine.
Commodore's next gaming console was the CD32, based on the Amiga 1200. Released in 1993, it featured most of the A1200's components and a special chip AKIKO, which was used for planar-to-chunky graphics format conversion. But it wasn't often used. The CD32 could be expanded to a full Amiga 1200 using the later appearing SX-1 and SX-32 kits. The CD32 was the first 32bit console, but Commodore couldn't deliver the ordered amounts until christmas.
So, for a game console which apperaded two years later, equipped with a 66 MHz RISC-CPU, the Pippin was a really bad device. Especcially if you know that the first Playstation from 1994 with a 33 MHz RISC CPU was much better.

marathon is much more enjoyable on a computer rather than a console. the textures and layout are much more seamless. not to mention you can map the sticks in a way that make sense for modern play.

It's a shame this thing failed to sell... I can't help but wonder if that's one of the reasons Apple missed so many landmark games through the PowerPC era. I'm still bitter that Worms Armageddon/World Party port got cancelled. :(

Comes with an anonymous white label interactive encyclopedia because It’s 1996 And Of Course It Does.
1995 interactive multimedia boxes like are getting old hat. 3do is on its way out, CDI is dead, PS1 and Saturn are proper 32 bit game consoles
but somehow Apple had to release theirs years after the fact

They wanted to make a computer that is also a game console, for *599$* and compete with Nintendo, Sony and Sega, with this pile of crap? It's super expensive and the "games" run like shit. They are of the same quality as plug and play consoles. I think they forgot to add the game console part.
