Silly Dave thinking the internet chirps him when he does something wrong or dumb. The internet will chirp at anything! Can't wait to see the build finally finished. A 4 cylinder breathing through itbs is going to be awesome in that classic!
Listening to Dave and Moose's banter makes me wish I had friends to build my project cars with. Man I can't wait to see the videos of Connie ripping sub 1:20's at TMP with Beamsy screaming for more!
Nothing wrong with getting the right tool to check the drag torque. Loving this build. Excited to see more! I surprisingly don't hear more comments about Moose knuckles with moose working on breaking things loose...
Idk about you guys, but there's just something so interesting about mechanical gears, bearings being put together that is so satisfying. Times I wish I was good in math to become an engineer.
I like that DP is actually doing some work on camera. He likes to fool you that he doesnt know what he is doing. It just makes the show all the better that he does. Wrencher Racer represent.
There's a certain satisfaction and pride that comes with taking the time to do a job right. Went through the exact same turmoil with my diff and clutch, but it's totally worth it! Watching these videos just gets me so pumped to get back to working on my own car :P Thanks and keep up the great work
You seem to really enjoy yourself with these videos. Even when things go wrong, you have a positive attitude. Here comes the shameless plug... I look forward to watching your videos every time I see an update notice.
Connie's first, but definitely not the last time... leaving Dave looking for more power! So, he took the power to choose the winner and the power to keep the extra bag of swag!
love the build.Had a connie in the 80s and missed it a lot!!! it brings good memories and im glad the celicas are given the status they badly deserved. kuddos to you in assembling the diff!!! Feliz Año Nuevo Amigo!!!
Good to see the progress guys, these are literally the best vids on yoochoob. I got the volvo 240 rear end for my RA23, now I need the truetrac lsd. IT WILL HAPPEN!
Setting up a diff seems a lot like dating. The first step is to take a whiff and see what you're working with. Then you need to try and pry it open and measure a few things to see what fits. Then the set up to see if it's your "forever". You don't want it to drag too much or too easy. The final step is to check the engagement on the ring and make sure it's just right ;-)
just did this same rebuild but on a 2001 4runner. only i just replaced the bearings. no lsd. its good fun and has quite the learning curve if its your first time.
I love that this thing is becoming a modified ae86 with ra24 skin stretched over it. It's gonna be such a beast. Sorry to probably make you feel old but my Dad's car was also a first gen Celica (fastback tho) and he loved that thing. I have a bunch of photos and man those cars were DOPE. Always wanted one. Thank you for doing it justice and not just putting a 1UZ into it (as awesome as that would be).
I dont know why you had to use the paint. The bottle caps you were wearing should have given you the vision to see through the gears and see the contact patch directly Clark Kent! Keep up the great work guys. Loving the diversity as of late.
just a random thing with por15, it is not UV protected so only use on underbody things like Frames, Axles and Diffs. and cant wait to see Connie completed!
Max loved the shout out DP! His eyes went REALLY wide when he heard his name on UA-cam. BTW - Max might have a nice slide hammer & puller set you can borrow the next time you get into this sort of work.
I have rebuilt over 170 diff and I think your diff is ok,moose you can set to fix trucks or big haevy things. I would never let him do anything on my projects. Next time I travel from Norway to visit my daughter in Toronto I can visit and give you some of my experience and some help with your Toyota.
I'm trying a lot of time to understand how to assemble a new ring and pinion gear into an lsd and not blow it...I think you helped me a lot but i think i also needed to see more of the procedure with the pinion installation and torque. Anyway good job. You're an inspiration to me and my Mx5 build!
my '86 corolla gts also had an open diff. Us Canadians didn't get the lsd option; had to order used from our friends down south. awesome vid and I love the moose guest appearances.
I rebuilt my 86's diff with a Weir lsd kit, the backlash is a bit much and the pinion drag is definitely to low but it never made noise and I want to drive it now!
I really like this channel. That said, as most US shops, you're all completely and utterly bonkers but in a really good way. Really interesting, some times you get a bit technical, which I really enjoy by the way and some really fantastic builds. Cheers!
Man you are doing something right! Tomei is the "bees knees", and you did the nost important trick of them all: you took your to do the work, so YOU know you've done right! Cheers from a Dutch Fan! PS: the tomei giftset would be great with my tomei gearknob in my projectcar
When DP is in front of the camera, I spend most of the time waiting for the face reveal episode. When the beard goes and the stache stays. - from a fellow canadian trying to grow an awesome stache
High five on setting back Lash on the rear end, that's hard to do even if you know what you are doing. Also hopefully it doesn't lash back at you either on the first drive or track day.
Nothing better than tearing into a rear end and putting some LSD in it. 😉 I know someone already said it, but that diff is so small! I would love to compare it next to my FJ’s diff. Can’t wait to see Connie completed!
Happy new year! Can't wait to see Celica and her arse sliding sideways. Dave, You can have the fancy key ring, maybe the mouse pad too. Keep the license plate, sadly I can't use it here. But only if you include one of your t-shirt in. To make it easier, you already have my address. Win win. Great stuff as always.
Perfect timing with this one, Dave! I was actually doing some research to install a new ring and pinion in my AE86 soon. After seeing all of the headache you went through, I've decided to just pay someone else to do it. Hahaha. Great video though!
you look like someone who will finish is project car before mine! haha Great content as always from my fellow Canadian. Been a while since i follow you and every video was great
love the video , and love the celica , wish i had a older one , but i do have a 5th gen celica witch i love a lot , cant wait to see more video updates on the celica build , keep up the grate work
So if you comment on my comment, does that commence the commencement of winning your winnings? Keep up the good work guys! This build has been a great reference point for both my 88 Celicas!
Just a heads up my comment will be as flat and boring as the province I live in (Manitoba). Just want to say thanks for the quality videos that you continue to put out, I always look forward to seeing where each project will go, I'll be in Ontario for the TOPP drift boonies bash during Canada Day long weekend, would be great to see you guys out there. Good luck to everyone trying to get that Tomei merch!
I believe the proper name for the “end caps” that adjust the backlash on the pinion to ring gear are called spanner nuts. The special tool used to adjust them is called a spanner wrench. At least with Ford 9” rear ends that is the case. Just sayin. 👍
moose's ring loosening technique confirmed what we always knew in our hearts: moose must be a delicate lover
Silly Dave thinking the internet chirps him when he does something wrong or dumb. The internet will chirp at anything! Can't wait to see the build finally finished. A 4 cylinder breathing through itbs is going to be awesome in that classic!
I´m crazy about your channel, i´ve been crazier if get one of this tomei bag to Brazil. Thanks for all your colaborations.
while all your friends left you for dead doing the diff,
I stuck with you till the very end .
good job,
I really need that Tomei bag please
Moose is a national treasure.
7:17 Look how happy you guys are remembering the good old days, 240sx, FRS and S2K. Please bring them back and give me a bag of goodies man.
Listening to Dave and Moose's banter makes me wish I had friends to build my project cars with. Man I can't wait to see the videos of Connie ripping sub 1:20's at TMP with Beamsy screaming for more!
It's nice to see builds that are not the typical cookie cutter builds we usually see. Keep up the great work guys! Very informative builds.
17:15 Good for you. Setting a great example for your viewers. Getting better every episode guys. Love supporting you. Keep those videos coming.
Nothing wrong with getting the right tool to check the drag torque. Loving this build. Excited to see more!
I surprisingly don't hear more comments about Moose knuckles with moose working on breaking things loose...
Lenin Vera I thought the same thing and have been waiting for it. I was gonna say the same thing but you beat me to it
Idk about you guys, but there's just something so interesting about mechanical gears, bearings being put together that is so satisfying. Times I wish I was good in math to become an engineer.

Don't tell Pete or Moose but I watch the videos for Dave's sense of humour... top quality!
I would love to see more old Celica’s on the road because they are just the best cars out there. Simple fun cars that are under appreciated.
Speed academy definitely at the top of my list of car channels on UA-cam! Love your work!
Celica is the most interesting series a lot of knowledge is put to that project
You seem to really enjoy yourself with these videos. Even when things go wrong, you have a positive attitude. Here comes the shameless plug... I look forward to watching your videos every time I see an update notice.

Feliz Año Nuevo Amigo!!!
warm my heart from this canadian blistering cold we had last week with that goodies bag, hand-it-tomei!
Moose is such a funny guy, do and Pete are awesome guys and speed academy is getting exciting again, u guys and MCM are my favorite UA-cam channels
All the diff-erent things we learned in this episode! For real, I just want the Tomei swag!
Good to see the progress guys, these are literally the best vids on yoochoob. I got the volvo 240 rear end for my RA23, now I need the truetrac lsd. IT WILL HAPPEN!

then somewhere down the line after many years of fun...... . it explodes in disaster anyway :P
just did this same rebuild but on a 2001 4runner. only i just replaced the bearings. no lsd. its good fun and has quite the learning curve if its your first time.

Damn Dave pulled off the finish of the diff assembly, very nice, and congrats.
Like seeing your build. A friend of mine is restoring a 1973 Celica.
Awesome build! I have a Beams swap ready for my '69 Mazda 1500 Wagon. Thanks for the motivation and keep up the good work!
🇨🇦 🇨🇦
i can't wait to see this Celica come to life. the best channel on youtube !!!!
Moose is such a best the needle nose trick really impressed me. Love your vids. Amazing every time I watch
Love your patience with diff rebuild. Did this myself once - after half a year, had to replace diff. Lesson learned :D
I dont know why you had to use the paint. The bottle caps you were wearing should have given you the vision to see through the gears and see the contact patch directly Clark Kent!
Keep up the great work guys. Loving the diversity as of late.
lol! Old man reading glasses are a thing when you get to my age. Your day is coming, junior! :P
just a random thing with por15, it is not UV protected so only use on underbody things like Frames, Axles and Diffs. and cant wait to see Connie completed!
Max loved the shout out DP! His eyes went REALLY wide when he heard his name on UA-cam. BTW - Max might have a nice slide hammer & puller set you can borrow the next time you get into this sort of work.
Loving watching the progress on this project. It has even inspired me to get back into my 1977 RA40 Celica
I have rebuilt over 170 diff and I think your diff is ok,moose you can set to fix trucks or big haevy things. I would never let him do anything on my projects. What a way to start the new year. Great build guys.
my '86 corolla gts also had an open diff. Us Canadians didn't get the lsd option; had to order used from our friends down south. awesome vid and I love the moose guest appearances.
I really enjoy the videos where y'all work on diffs. I always learn something new.
I'd say this episode is at least a 4 bagger and five star for tomei quality gear. love that torque wrench
I rebuilt my 86's diff with a Weir lsd kit, the backlash is a bit much and the pinion drag is definitely to low but it never made noise and I want to drive it now!
Pete and moose in an episode together haven't seen that in a while awesome show you guys!
You're always a winner in my heart, DP
Tomei have always been awesome. If I could get a few of there products for my project car, I definitely would.
I really like this channel. That said, as most US shops, you're all completely and utterly bonkers but in a really good way. Really interesting, some times you get a bit technical, which I really enjoy by the way and some really fantastic builds. Cheers!
the tool he's using is a CDI dial torque wrench, same as snapon but really looks better than the snap on ones
The blue tomei gift bags where originally grey but after a few heat cycles....
Really enjoying this project. I'm using it as inspiration for my 72 Corona build. Keep up the great work.
Love the ra celicas. My favorite car easily. Love what your doing with yours. Wouldn't do it any differently
It's pronounced: Sell-eh-ka you crazy Canucks..... Also more Celica videos, this is the best project on the channel
Man you are doing something right! Tomei is the "bees knees", and you did the nost important trick of them all: you took your to do the work, so YOU know you've done right! Cheers from a Dutch Fan! PS: the tomei giftset would be great with my tomei gearknob in my projectcar
Best channel on UA-cam ! Well and V-tech Academy too!
Men, that's a dream build. I learn a lot with this vids. Can't wait to hear the Beams ITB's!!
Dave we’ll give you the win, since this looks like the most work you’ve done by yourself...for the most part
lol true story!
When DP is in front of the camera, I spend most of the time waiting for the face reveal episode. When the beard goes and the stache stays. - from a fellow canadian trying to grow an awesome stache
Could happen someday! My wife certainly wants the beard gone...
Lunch break and a speed academy video. Can’t ask for more!!
Always go grip for an 86! Super excited for this build.
High five on setting back Lash on the rear end, that's hard to do even if you know what you are doing. Also hopefully it doesn't lash back at you either on the first drive or track day.
Nothing better than tearing into a rear end and putting some LSD in it. 😉
I know someone already said it, but that diff is so small! I would love to compare it next to my FJ’s diff.
Can’t wait to see Connie completed!
This Moose be the best episode for 2018!
dude... i cant wait to see this thing ripping up the track!! happy building!
Great build series guys, you`re doing everything I wan`t to do to my `77 liftback.
Woot woot. Speed Academy always show love for there fans. Keep up the great videos
Connie just saw the surgeon and got herself a sexy new rear end!
Love your content and interaction with your viewers 👍👍👍
I can't wait to see this driving around a track. Maybe once I get my Corolla running we can get to a meet and go head to head.
Thank goodness for the "don't panic" reassurance. Until I saw it, I was on the edge of hysteria.

Definitely not a bad idea to hire a pro for this job. It's a lot of work and you do need the right tools.
Brave Dave saves the day again
I skipped lunch to watch this video. Worth it.
Edit: I could add a lot of horsepower to a lot of prescriptions with that pen...
I don't think i have ever seen Moose move as fast as he did when he was bolting up that ring gear! It was like watching Moose in fast forward
It’s good that you’re working on her underside, who doesn’t love some good action in the rear? LSD will be a hell of an experience too
Love these guys, always respond to my facebook messages when I have questions about something!
Happy new year from Greece.Great work with Moose diff.
That pen, mouse pad, lanyard, tp gauge and backpack will add at least 15 horsepower. It’s a must on your budget build.
You guys are awesome and I faithfully watch every build! Keep them coming!
Connie is coming along so nicely
You know us all too well, have a good year.
you look like someone who will finish is project car before mine! haha
Great content as always from my fellow Canadian. Been a while since i follow you and every video was great
Moose being gentle and he read the instructions. I don’t know what’s going on anymore lol
I don’t know why I watched that, I’m not really into Toyota’s, but it was interesting, a lot of similarities to a 8” or 9” Ford reared. Nice work!
That looked pretty diff...icult to set up, great job!
Love your work boys! The build is coming along nicely
Can't wait to see this car running.
Ken might have the looks.. but Nam definitely has the skills! Nurses are low key everyone’s weakness.
I started this video and thought, "we need more moose". And there he was!
So awesome, maybe I will adapt an ae86 differential to my kp61, thank for share all of that information, it's useful
Laughed so hard with Dave and Moose. This duo is killeeeeeer!Awesome vid, great install! Also Dave....glasses are sexyyyyy :P
love the video , and love the celica , wish i had a older one , but i do have a 5th gen celica witch i love a lot , cant wait to see more video updates on the celica build , keep up the grate work
So if you comment on my comment, does that commence the commencement of winning your winnings?

We may well be at a Topp Drift event this year. Hope to see you there!
Awesome educational video. Really like these technical videos!
Connie’s rear end needs to be handled like a gentleman, using all the right tools ;)
Roses are red
Tomei's bags are blue
I love speed academy
Because Moose knows kung-fu
Best haiku ever? I think so. E-mail me your shipping address, you got a Tomei gift bag coming your way. dave@speed.academy (no .com on the end)
That's what I call a win!
I believe the proper name for the “end caps” that adjust the backlash on the pinion to ring gear are called spanner nuts. The special tool used to adjust them is called a spanner wrench. At least with Ford 9” rear ends that is the case. Just sayin. 👍
