Life structure can turn into ritualistic compulsions for people who aren’t well versed or further off in recovery. I think it’s better to go with the flow as structures can often become the areas of certainty and control

Hey mega - It depends on the person. More often than not and I mean 95% of sufferers need much more focused life structure as theirs is usually quite poor.

@@OCDrecoveryNick I see it could be. I believe I see structures in very all or nothing sense and maybe my Autism impacts it as well..

My 30 year old son refuses to get help. I can see he has ocd/scrupulosity and managed to find a therapist but he refuses to speak with him. He argues, shouts at me, blasphemes, acts completely mental saying hes going to hell. Its terrifying. Yet, he manages to speak with his old school friends as if nothing is wrong. I'm not well through it, I'm suffering from his behaviour. How can I encourage him to get the help he needs

Hey - This is a really tough situation, I wish I had a better answer because I put my wife through the same thing. All we can do is try and suggest but unfortunately we can't change anyone. I wish I had a better answer.

@@OCDrecoveryNick no we can't change others but I'm terrified he'll get to a stage where we'll have to call an ambulance to help control him and then he'll have it on his health records. I know he wants to travel and eventually get to Australia to work (which is a crazy OCD thought because he hasn't even started his career here at home yet as he refuses to take any steps toward finding work). But when he gets so angry and starts hitting, punching himself in the face, he's given himself a black eye, I feel we're having to use all our strength to restrain him, its terrifying.
