- Hello Everyone..!
In This Video, we are Travelling to Shimla Via Toy Train From Kalka ( Himalayan Queen ). This Is one of The incredible Train Route Which Has Been declared World Heritage Site By UNESCO in 2008.
The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow-gauge railway in North India which traverses a mostly mountainous route from Kalka to Shimla. It is known for dramatic views of the hills and surrounding villages. The railway was built under the direction of Herbert Septimus Harington between 1898 and 1903 to connect Shimla, the summer capital of India during the British Raj, with the rest of the Indian rail system.
The 18 stations it covers are: Kalka, Taksal, Gumman, Koti, Sonwara, Dharampur, Kumarhatti, Barog, Solan, Salogra, Kandaghat, Kanoh, Kathleegat, Shoghi, Taradevi, Jutoh, Summer Hill and Shimla. The rail network holds the Guinness Book of World Records for its 96 kilometers steepest rise in the altitude, it is one of the most beautiful hill railways in India. It was considered the “crown jewel” of the Indian National Railways during British times. The Kalka-Shimla Toy Train journey is renowned for its unique charm, and the 102 tunnels, 864 bridges, and 919 curves along the route play pivotal roles in creating this enchanting experience.
Barog is a small hill station in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It's located on the Kalka-Shimla Highway, 60 km from Chandigarh, and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kalka-Shimla Railway. Barog is also named after Barog, a British railway engineer, and is the site of the Barog Tunnel, which is 1,143.61 meters long and is the longest tunnel on the Kalka Shimla line. The train travels through the tunnel at 25 kilometers per hour, taking about 2.5 minutes. Some say that the ghost of Colonel Barog visits the tunnel and chats up with strangers.
