When I look closely, I realise that all unhappiness and all suffering I have ever experienced arised out of a preoccupation and a fixation on thoughts and feelings and activities and experiences and relationships. And whenever I have been truly happy and well and free and healthily growing in life, it has been because I had somehow found my way to the awareness of being and moved from the peace of it.
there's no you, the "fixation on thoughts and feelings" is just another thought, that's still not you. your current thoughts about you being you is just more thoughts that are not you
Ego is entity! Thinking and feeling imply entity. But there is difference between relative false ego and eternal true ego. False ego is to think separate of God. For example our false ego is that "I am father of my son". If the same thing would be apply to God, it would be true ego, becouse that relationship is eternal. "I am father of Krishna." (of course everyone has specifiq relation to God)
@SIMPLY HUMAN is the ego even a thing? isn't it a made up term by some old dudes like a hundred years ago....um, where is it? has anyone taken a picture of it. where is the empirical evidence that ego even exists except in this thread?
I remember a songwriter describing his process when asked about how a particular song and lyrics came to them. His answer got my wondering. His reply was "the music, the words both came together, almost at once they just came into my mind and I was able to quickly scribble down some notes. The whole process was as though I had been given a gift or that I had created them in another time for later use and totally forgotten, almost in another life. I then had a surprise download"
Thanks so much Rupert and Simon for such a great elaboration. Now, I could somehow get it what it means that behind every sound is silence or behind every hatred is love 🙏

This question is purely logical. Self realization is not a logical deal at all. Self realization is when logic disappears not when a sound logical conclusion is reached.
Hi John! 😊❤😊So in my humble understanding, in the tantric approach, all type of body-mind-personalities can "reach" self-realisation. All type of people can remember their true nature/attain self-realisation. In the teachings all perceptions/all body-minds/personalities are valid. All the intellectual thoughts, feelings, emotions and visions are fine. Including the most mystical type of people and the most logical type of body-mind/personas have the "chance" to attain liberation/moksha. It is just that all perceptions, thoughts, feelings, body-mind-personalities remains their very essence in the one-being-awereness: all of that is considered/recognised as an illusion. So everything "appears" and "disappears" in the one-being/one-awareness/one-being-awareness... 😁❤😊🎉 So, my self-realisation happened in the spring of 2018, when I was 37 years of age. Although, I was always a more of a so called mystical, artistic-mystic, otherworldly type of body-mind/personality, it was still happening to me on a totally non-mystical way. So, as usual, on a day off, I was relaxing, enjoying sunshine, doing my fitness routines (physical exercises), I had been eating animal-cruelty free, (vegan) for twenty or so years, so my whole body was in a purified state, I was eating only raw fruits and raw veggie salads for a few days (as a detox), I had been practising my spiritual dance, my breathwork (yoga breathwork), my mindfulness, as usual. I had been doing my guided meditations, too. On that day, I was just seated in a chair in my garden, in nature, fresh air, sunshine and bamm, my moksha-moment happened. All suffering got released. Liberation happened. In spring 2018. But it was not really a so called mystical experience. It was just a natural moment.😊❤🎉 Although, I had been all my life an extroverted, psychedelics-using and breathwork-practising type, a performing artist type, from toddler age on, had been doing lots activities such as: playing my violin, my flute, acting in plays and musicals, singing, yoga-breathwork, drama, painting, drawing, writing poems and songs, passion for literature, poetry, theatre, exercise, fitness, etc (activities). So my body-mind-personality had been more of a singer, an actor, an artist who had been practising all my 37 years of my life, by that time how to be a "beinginthemoment" type of person. I had been a brearthwork-practiser, a spiritualdance-practiser, a musician, etc. So of course, one could expect that my "moksha-moment" would happen (after living a so called more spiritual-mystical-artistic life) in a dramatic/ extroverted/exciting way. One spring day, I was just sitting in my garden, and the illusion just "evaporated". No drama, no visions, not very "exciting". 😅😂❤😊It just dawned on me, all of a sudden, that the thought that "there are other beings than me" totally an illusion. I got released/liberated from the illusion of thought that there are more than one things. It just clicked that all (seemingly) separated beings are ONE. That samsara and moksha (samsara and nirvana) has never been separated. It has always been one and will always will be one. THAT, who IS, is there in all (seemingly different and separated) beings. There is just one-consciousness/one-awareness/one-being and that all creation "shares" IT. 🎉🎉❤❤😊😊 This emancipation can occur in any body-mind. 😊❤😊 It can happen to: People who are more logical, down to earth/practical or to people who live in theoretic (intellectual) realms. To people whoare more introverted, or more extroverted. To people who academically-skilled or who are more street wise. To people who are socially advanced (eg who are community leaders or a parent who raises 5 kids or someone, or who runs big businesses with lots of staff-members, or teachers, etc) or to people who don't like socialising at all and live their whole life alone. My point is that anyone, -literally anyone, - can self-realise/get liberated. (Because we are literally any-one. 😉) Because our body-mind-persona is seemingly different in all of us, so our awakening will come in all (seemingly) different shapes and forms.❤😊❤ But we are all one and non-seperated. We are THAT, who is: infinite, eternal, beyondtimeandspace being. ❤😊🎉
I've been attracted to pema chodron's statement of viewing thoughts like clouds...they come ago go...sometimes raining...to the degree "I " allow" or give energy to them...❤💖
The mind conceives a universe of apparent multiplicity of space and time where it is imprisoned in their own conception of existence. Everything that the mind builds is insufficient to understand its own source, "that" which makes the mind able to understand what it has built in itself, and "that", is everything that uniquely exists, and is prior to the mind, that is, the One and infinite consciousness. Thank you Rupert for clarifying the mistake of the belief in the ilusiory ego.
Truly, truly fascinating discussion highlighting the immense power of belief to channel the mind's activity. (I.E. creations) As believe is placed on the mantle of truth within the mind's eye, it alters everything that flows from it in accordance with said belief. Hence false belief (delusion) is what casts our felt experience into the lowest and most disturbed states - and it's removal is what returns the self to the Self and utterly frees one from their deathly grip.
@SIMPLY HUMAN now you're pushing it to adapt to your assumption. In "it's raining" there's no subject. You can't say "the clouds are raining", this is absurd.
@SIMPLY HUMAN don't patronize me, you understood what I said. Natural phenomena happen without being provoked by any subject. That's my point here. Anyway, thanks for responding, it was nice to exchange opinions.
the fact that you do not experience the thinker directly does not mean the thinker does not exist, just like oxygen, you couldn’t experience it directly but it does exist
thats good point, one thing is to negate, relative "stuff", another is understand true substance. So rejecting false ego does not neccerery implies nonexistence of true ego.
Yes! That´s the difference between thoughts arising from stillness which are pure translations of that and the one´s expressing the yearning for dropping and returning to stillness.
No voice in your life will ever be true, and we only ever hear one voice, it argues this way and that, let it fall quiet, it is only a voice .it paints the world and holds it up for us to see, but if love is alive then it can never show me love.
@@coursefacilitator2342 i mean all phenomena everything is divine imagination except the observer (Self that is dreaming). ...and God coming to visit as all beings, teacher, public, teaching, listening, experiencing ...God is Awareness in all forms and in no form..God isnot a person,God is life as it is..💕
Thoughts dominate a person when he is aloof in the pool of his individual consciousness. Experience of the individual is the basis of his thought. It relate to existence as form, flesh and blood. As we learn to sublimate in the wider consciousness thoughts become meaning less like the insignificance of a drop of water in the ocean. Thought happens. Mind can direct, channelise or shut out thoughts using will. Ego is individuals coloring of the will. It can perfume an experience.
These poor people are so lost in their heads. Could anyone see that all of what’s being said here has no reality whatsoever outside of their own minds?? Of course it’s all much more subtle than just normal practical thought. It has way more of a ‘feel’ to it than let’s say a thought like ‘what are we eating tonight?’ That’s why I was stuck in this for 13 years. Walking around as so called pure awareness thinking I’d seen through the false construct of being a separate individual. All the while being in the most lifeless, detached place I’ve ever been without even realizing it. When we really look inside, in all honesty, can’t we see that all of this ‘nondual stuff’ is coming from the same place as all of our other thoughts and concepts we have about life? That we constantly have to ‘bring it up’ ourselves in order to actually ‘feel’ this consciousness or awareness? ‘Yes, oke, maybe it looks that way you will say. We may not be aware of awareness itself all the time, but we are always aware of something. So it must always be there, right?’ But can’t you see that these are all only just thoughts? Seemingly deep and meaningful thoughts that give you the impression of being deep realizations about the nature of reality. But the actual reality is that they are nothing more than thoughts, concepts or ideas happening in our minds. There is nothing real behind them. We logically start our search into the nature of our reality out of the same place from which we already experience life. That is, for most people, disconnected from their heart and solely in their minds. Experiencing life in such a way is probably the main reason we started this search in the first place because it is so unfulfilling. That’s also why for people who do have a connection with their heart nonduality doesn’t make any sense at all. When you, unknowingly, go through life totally disconnected from your heart, of course nonduality is going to feel like the ultimate truth when you find out about it. Living life only ‘in your mind’ feels already sort of unreal. As if life is just passing you by instead of being totally immersed in it. You are already some sort of a witness to it anyway. So from that place it’s not a big step we have to make to go a bit deeper and look at our identification as a separate individual and see it as unreal. Because this identification with ourselves in our own mind truly doesn’t have any substance. As goes for everything else happening within our minds. When we finally see through all the innumerable subtleties of the mind that keep us from living our most real lifes and experiencing our deepest innermost being, then we are able to open our hearts and we will see how insane it all was to see your God-given individuality as a false construct, as ultimately non-existent. We will experience life in a way that is so much more real, pure and free than we could have ever imagined. And we see that being a separate human being, a unique child of God, is the most real thing ever.
There is no you AND God. Arno is like a wave on the ocean. A human being is a temporary vehicle for the expression of life. At no time is the wave separate from the ocean. “See” all this.

This also appears to explain those brilliant flashes of intuition that so many scientists and philosophers report, which clarify long baffling problems in a single singing moment of clarify that illuminates the entire solution, which may then take anywhere from hours to years of labour to actually document, test, etc etc. Such flashes surely come directly from awareness itself, the suffering scientist is typically unable to establish any "train" of thought that led to the clarity, which may well have come while they are brushing their teeth or watching a movie.

The ego is illusory but not non-existent! Who or what identifies with the body or with some object? Who or what desires pleasure? Who or what wants to avoid pain? Who or what decides to stop or keep thinking? Who or what decides to give in or not to a desire? Who or what causes such havoc on human beings, individually and collectively? No matter how many times we deny the existence of the ego, the ego is there, functioning in our psyche. It is the central factor of our apparent existence. It is true that the ego is illusory, but the whole universe and the forms (gross and subtle) in it are illusory, since everything in the universe is composed of the same fundamental powers or energies (gunas in Sanskrit), i.e. rajas, tamas and sattva. Everything that is made of the three gunas is illusory, that is, it has a temporary existence, it has a beginning and an end, it is not sef-existent (its existence depends on something else, -Consciousness-), it is not self-conscious, it does not appear in all states of consciousness ( waking, dream, deep sleep states). The idea that when we look for the ego we do not find it is false. We can certainly observe the ego as any other egoic tendency, thought or emotion. The idea that the ego is the identification with the body or thoughts is also false. It is the ego that identifies with the body and thoughts. Without the ego there is no identification with the body, thoughts, ideas, emotions, objects or any form whatsoever. The ego is the agent of our volition, thinking, feeling, decision-making and acting. Depending on the nature of our mind and ego and the way our mind operates at any given moment, there is mechanical thinking, emotional thinking or conscious thinking. Therefore, it is not appropriate to generalize and talk about thinking as if it were only one type of thinking.
where is the mind? what empirical evidence is there for a mind, or an ego. i don't believe there is any such thing. it's made up nonsense for people like you so you can feel smart or something.
@@coursefacilitator2342 Just to help your understanding about the ego I give you these hints about its nature. Extracts of Swami Sivananda Ego or Egoism or Egotism (Ahamkara in Sanskrit) is the self-asserting principle or Tattva born of ignorance (Prakriti). The very root of the whole question of spiritual realisation and emancipation lies in the theory of ignorance. They say, ignorance is the root. How does ignorance manifest in the individual soul? As Ahankara (Egoism). The root of the whole problem is the ego in the individual soul, and the moment the ego is removed, whatever is shines forth in all its splendour. That is your essential nature. That is Satchidananda (Existence-Consciousness-Bliss). To remove the ego is the prime purpose of all Yoga. It is the ego which has created the idea of separateness from God or the Atman. It is the ego which is the root cause for all human sufferings and births and deaths. This ego identifies itself with the body, mind, Prana, the senses. Wherever there is ego, there are mineness, selfishness, likes and dislikes, lust, anger, greed, hypocrisy, pride, jealousy, delusion, arrogance, conceit, impertinence, Vasanas (subtle desires), Trishna (cravings) and Vrittis or Sankalpa, clinging to this earth-life (Abhinivesha), agency, doer (Kartha) and enjoyer (Bhokta). The ego itself manifests as emotion, as attachment 'this is mine', (Mamata vritti). In order to remove this manifestation of the ego as attachment, they said, “Attach yourself to the Lord.” And then, this ego is also found in another aspect of personality, as superimposition, super-arrogation, pride, taking credit for everything, Abhimana (egoistic feeling)-“I have done that, I am a master of the Vedas, I have attained proficiency in that science.” In everything man begins to take Abhimana, and entertain the feeling, “I am the doer, I am the possessor of everything.” You must have very clear understanding of the nature of this ego, if you want to annihilate egoism. The working of egoism is very mysterious. It is very difficult to detect its various ways of working. It needs a subtle and sharp intellect to find out its operation. If you practise introspection daily in silence you will be able to find out its mysterious ways of working. This ego will lurk like a thief when you start introspection and self-analysis. It will elude your grasp and understanding.

Keep going, I'd suggest also seeking out other non-duality teachers. The good teachers who are based in truth all have the same message, but it'll be worded differently, new examples given, etc...and you never know when one teacher's specific approach will penetrate the fog of your specific intellectual mind and the veil will drop, and you'll say, "Oh of course! It's been right here in front of me this whole time!"
We will take a simple little verse and show you why it is not addressed to the natural man, Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”
nice one, its actually pretty simple. We are created on image of God. So we have same ego as now ,eternally, only real substance is uncovered when God comes to picture.
I think because, it want to enter this world to have a context for climbing up the hierarchy of meanings. So this world is the context that meanings manifest themselves, and our goal is to climb up these meanings by understanding those. At the top of this hierarchy of good meanings is God.
If all thoughts come from awareness, how did Hellen Keller--who was deaf, dumb, and blind with NO empiricism experience of the "outer world"--become a college graduate? If our brains are only empirical tabula rasa blank slates at birth with no a priori given knowledge, how did Helen Keller--who could not hear or speak or see--become a college graduate. Also, Mr. Rupert's philosophy originates from Eastern Religions/Philosophies who "see"-believe-think that you are reincarnated if you do not become Enlightened. However, if there is no "you" how can "you" be reincarnated? I'm not a Rationalist Religious Person. I'm a Deist American Pragmatist, thus I see a God but this God is not a Personal God but instead a Generic Impersonal God that ignited the Big Bang and then "stepped-aside" to allow this Universe to develop via "itself" (Deism) and a Pragmatist which is a merging of Empiricism (Aristotle and Eastern Philosophies) and Rationalism (Plato and Theist Philosophies.) Why does everyone try to go to one extreme (1) our Mind is Nothing, tabula rasa Empiricism; or (2) our Mind is everything, s priori Rationalism? Isn't our Minds some kind of mixture? That's what I see. Also, I know what God is. In other words, I can succinctly defined God, but I will not do that here, because someone will steal my understanding (which is every-person's understanding once he or she or heshe can see like I can see which is the natural philosophical view) of the Generic Impersonal. I can prove this Generic Impersonal Deist God. Good luck people. Delbert Blanton Kokomo, Indiana, USA. (Didn't closely read-over this for typos for Grammar Nazis.)
It cannot be said that there is any such thing as a thought, as thought never IS. Thinking appears to be a movement, meaning thoughts appear to be passing, fleeting, never actually being, not really existent, not present. Only Now, the Present is present. Awareness is present-tense only, hence, it never experiences time or change. What Is, is All That Is, there is "nowhere" where Is isn't.
I can choose any thought I want to think .... If there is no person thinking .... then who is chosing the thoughts to think .... perhaps it is the youtube algorithm ....
What’s is the difference between there being a thinker and there being thoughts? Why he doesn’t say that as there are thoughts, which he admits there are, there is a thinker too? Is it because it would make the thinker a real substance apart from thoughts? I hope he doesn’t reason this way, for that can be also said of thoughts too. But if he wants to eliminate the idea that there is no substantial thinker, he cannot show it by contrasting it eith thoughts, since thoughts too are not substantial. Thus, there is a thinker as much as there are thoughts. If you can identify thoughts as he does, so with the thinker, for the idea of there being a thinker is also a thought and if it is a thought and Rupert affirms that there are thoughts then there is a thinker as there are thoughts.
I wonder how many people in the audience actually find lasting peace from this, once the mesmerizing effect of Rupert's explanation wears off. I'd guess not many.
Dear Rupert, only a person can be responsible. If you deny the existence of your own person, there is no one left responsible for anything. Pantheists call this ‘freedom’, but this so-called freedom is actually just imagined freedom from responsibility to which their so-called spiritual practice is ultimately geared and which, if ultimately successful, obviously just separates the person from any real and true connection with other beings. By denying the existence of the individual person one denies the existence of everyone else in the process, yet he may still call his word view ‘connection’ and act ethically because he lives in intellectual self-deception par excellence. He doesn’t act ethically because he has realised some kind of oneness with others but because his conscience, as well as his practical reason, still continues to affirm that the experiences of others matter as distinct from his own. Because their experiences matter to him as such, he rightly behaves like a decent dualist yet preaches bizarre and easily dangerous things like a non-dualist. The unity we have with others is essential connectedness but it is not sameness. We are one but not the same. What we do to others we certainly also do to ourselves. But because ‘mere’ essential connectedness does not absolve the person from personal responsibility, a serious pantheist, still trapped by his ultimately selfish interests which are well masqueraded as spiritual selflessness, would find it unappealing.
If there is not a thinker, what was Ramana pointing to by saying “Silence the thinker by following it to its source.” I have done this, I know it works. Silence is instantly available by locking attention on the thinker. Just saying ;)
So difficult to understand. Most of what is said is contradictory according to the definition of the words “there are thoughts but no thinker”-the definition of the word Thought implies a thinker already… how does one even come up with that? How can one even verify/falsify such a claim?? Lots of questions, no concrete answers.
yes exactly. If we accept that we always have ego, as we experience now, that is true non-duality. Otherwise we would have duality, two states of no-ego and ego. Ego means identity. Identity means relations to surrounding. If our relationships are temporary that is called false ego. If our relationship is eternal, with God, that is true ego.
This video is a perfect example of why something so primal, so simple is totally lost in all this inane philosophical non sense that ultimately only serves to confuse people's imaginations further.

This video is so helpful, but I have a doubt, pure Awareness being wisdom, why localised itself as a finite self knowing that the price to pay is is an illusion of séparation which results in suffering ?
Pure awareness never suffers only the apparent individuals suffer. It’s like asking why do we dream knowing that we are likely going to suffer in the dream? I don’t suffer in the dream. It’s only the dream character that suffers.
Man, now I can look back to this sort of advaita stuff and see why it never resonated. "There is no person thinking the thoughts" well of course not, insofar as what we are is not a person. But it's US thinking those thoughts, it is consciousness. Who else would think the thoughts? It's such a disingenious angle on things....and I remember 10 years ago how I strained to grasp the implication............as if there was no person. All of that is not true. Just because we can modulate our perception as souled beings doesn't mean there is no person. Just because we can mediate and see ourselves as BEYOND all sense perceptions "as" the absolute.........does not mean, we don't exist as people. It's really just the human MIND thinking abstractly beyond what actually is the case.
I reject the idea that there is a no conscious self or a conscious thinker because it goes against all experience. Each person certainly does have a very real conscious self with a will and everything. For this guy to make this video and willfully express his opinion that there is no conscious thinker he literally has to consciously think and willfully make the video. This is self-defeating and flies in the face of everyone's experience. Make no mistake God gave you a very real soul or self.
And that’s perfectly ok for you to reject it.. I am super intrigued and curious of your experience though. When you have a conversation, are you consciously selecting every single word that comes out of your mouth almost instantaneously prior to it being spoken? From which place is that self that is willfully and consciously selecting those words located?
This teaching is not Rupert's "opinion." Buddha was teaching the same thing thousands of years ago. There are many sages and teachers to learn from. Rupert is one of them.
@SIMPLY HUMAN I was simply inquiring into @monsterhunters experience. I made no claim of mistaking a perception as myself. Just asking questions. So you’re saying, you are the body/mind out of which consciousness emerges? You also stated it is the brain which formulates before “you” are conscious of them and then said it is the brain that is conscious? So there is a brain which is conscious and a “you” that can also be conscious of what the brain has formulated? Who/what is “you”? Genuinely curious.
@SIMPLY HUMAN Thats all that needed to be said in the first place lol. I didn’t read into anything, again just simply asking questions. Just wanted clarity of your statement, it’s quite simple and complexity isn’t necessary. It’s rather useful to inquire into one’s beliefs and experience like my original comment to the OP was doing to reveal there is no separate self. You went a different route as if I had made a statement towards them. Clarity is the aim, what we’re getting at is the same in essence, the form in which it took differed greatly. Agreed there is no separation, one essence emanating as multiplicity and diversity. All is well.
This is CUTE prestigititation, but the suffering still suffer AF, the chronically miserably ill can never F meditate and we all end up in the ash bin. BFD. Chairs on tha F Titanic anyone?????
When I look closely, I realise that all unhappiness and all suffering I have ever experienced arised out of a preoccupation and a fixation on thoughts and feelings and activities and experiences and relationships. And whenever I have been truly happy and well and free and healthily growing in life, it has been because I had somehow found my way to the awareness of being and moved from the peace of it.
there's no you, the "fixation on thoughts and feelings" is just another thought, that's still not you. your current thoughts about you being you is just more thoughts that are not you
Are you saying happy and peaceful as in feelings?then my friend ur still stuck with the separate self

Thank you ! You have given to me some of the clearest teachings about consciousness that I have ever heard
😂😂😂😂
"The ego is not an entity; it is an activity of thinking and feeling."
Ego is the belief of being a center!
Ego is entity! Thinking and feeling imply entity. But there is difference between relative false ego and eternal true ego. False ego is to think separate of God. For example our false ego is that "I am father of my son". If the same thing would be apply to God, it would be true ego, becouse that relationship is eternal. "I am father of Krishna." (of course everyone has specifiq relation to God)
so are thoughts something, that is, an entity? are feelings a thing or no thing like a non entity ego? are you there, or here, or nowhere at all?
@SIMPLY HUMAN is the ego even a thing? isn't it a made up term by some old dudes like a hundred years ago....um, where is it? has anyone taken a picture of it. where is the empirical evidence that ego even exists except in this thread?
@@coursefacilitator2342 where does this ego reside and what is the evidence that it is actually a thing?
I remember a songwriter describing his process when asked about how a particular song and lyrics came to them. His answer got my wondering. His reply was "the music, the words both came together, almost at once they just came into my mind and I was able to quickly scribble down some notes. The whole process was as though I had been given a gift or that I had created them in another time for later use and totally forgotten, almost in another life. I then had a surprise download"

Yes it’s good one. Spira often refers to Awareness as the sky, thoughts as birds in the sky, and feelings as clouds.
Who is the I? me, my past, my belief, my psychological knowledge: ego!
Thank you, that is a very clear explanation 🙏🏼
Live has the striving to live and experience itself as diverse as possible, no matter if as matter, never mind if as mind or whatever.
😂😂😂
Well polished Mirror,
I can look clearly"myself" inYOU
The mind conceives a universe of apparent multiplicity of space and time where it is imprisoned in their own conception of existence.
Everything that the mind builds is insufficient to understand its own source, "that" which makes the mind able to understand what it has built in itself, and "that", is everything that uniquely exists, and is prior to the mind, that is, the One and infinite consciousness.
Thank you Rupert for clarifying the mistake of the belief in the ilusiory ego.
😂
Truly, truly fascinating discussion highlighting the immense power of belief to channel the mind's activity. (I.E. creations)
As believe is placed on the mantle of truth within the mind's eye, it alters everything that flows from it in accordance with said belief.
Hence false belief (delusion) is what casts our felt experience into the lowest and most disturbed states - and it's removal is what returns the self to the Self and utterly frees one from their deathly grip.
Wonderfully thought provoking, loved this
😂😂😂
Clever 🤣
No thinker, no seer, no hearer, no doer, etc....but there is thinking, seeing, hearing, doing, etc.
Where/what is the "it" then for "it is raining"?
@SIMPLY HUMAN now you're pushing it to adapt to your assumption.
In "it's raining" there's no subject. You can't say "the clouds are raining", this is absurd.
@SIMPLY HUMAN don't patronize me, you understood what I said.
Natural phenomena happen without being provoked by any subject.
That's my point here. Anyway, thanks for responding, it was nice to exchange opinions.

Deep gratitude, as always, to you, Rupert, for sharing your amazing insights with the "world." 🙏
the fact that you do not experience the thinker directly does not mean the thinker does not exist, just like oxygen, you couldn’t experience it directly but it does exist
thats good point, one thing is to negate, relative "stuff", another is understand true substance.

The pure awareness can also instantly dissolve the distortion

Thoughts dominate a person when he is aloof in the pool of his individual consciousness. Experience of the individual is the basis of his thought. It relate to existence as form, flesh and blood. As we learn to sublimate in the wider consciousness thoughts become meaning less like the insignificance of a drop of water in the ocean. Thought happens. Mind can direct, channelise or shut out thoughts using will. Ego is individuals coloring of the will. It can perfume an experience.
We intuitively know this
We should call it heart conciousness.
So it must always be there, right?’
But can’t you see that these are all only just thoughts?
Has it ever occurred to you that it is you who might have been lost in your head-please explosre this possibility...if you dare !!

But I do think there are a lot of people who can relate to what I said. That no matter how freeing this nondual message seems to be, especially in the beginning, deep down they know something is not right. They can’t really connect with people anymore or be really touched by life.
When you look at teachers like Rupert or the people attending those nonduality meetings, it’s actually not that hard to see that they look so numb and lifeless. I don’t want to be rude. To me it is just so sad to see. I was there too. And it almost ruined my life.

This also appears to explain those brilliant flashes of intuition that so many scientists and philosophers report, which clarify long baffling problems in a single singing moment of clarify that illuminates the entire solution, which may then take anywhere from hours to years of labour to actually document, test, etc etc.

We do not have a consciousness we are consciousness. We are awareness.
Wow he literally asked and then answered a question I was asking yesterday
Simply wonderful.
Thinking is only one! rather thought is one!
@@coursefacilitator2342 Just to help your understanding about the ego I give you these hints about its nature.
Extracts of Swami Sivananda
Ego or Egoism or Egotism (Ahamkara in Sanskrit) is the self-asserting principle or Tattva born of ignorance (Prakriti).
In order to remove this manifestation of the ego as attachment, they said, “Attach yourself to the Lord.”
And then, this ego is also found in another aspect of personality, as superimposition, super-arrogation, pride, taking credit for everything, Abhimana (egoistic feeling)-“I have done that, I am a master of the Vedas, I have attained proficiency in that science.” In everything man begins to take Abhimana, and entertain the feeling, “I am the doer, I am the possessor of everything.”
You must have very clear understanding of the nature of this ego, if you want to annihilate egoism.
@@atmannityananda-autognosia ego is an illusion and any action its part is also ego strengthening, therefore, no action is the right action, only awareness will dissolve the disorder!

Why does awareness get localised into a finite mind?
Because bodies get born.
Just! 🤷
I think because, it want to enter this world to have a context for climbing up the hierarchy of meanings. So this world is the context that meanings manifest themselves, and our goal is to climb up these meanings by understanding those. At the top of this hierarchy of good meanings is God.
Do I awareness choose which thoughts or feelings or activities I focus awareness on?
What is wrong, when consciousness identify itself with an ego, to experience limitations ?
Kant entered the room
Dear Mr. Spira, my question to you and all who may choose to respond is this: Will we ever remember any of this?
I wonder how many people in the audience actually find lasting peace from this, once the mesmerizing effect of Rupert's explanation wears off. I'd guess not many.
Who is wondering?😊
Peace comes in pieces for most just as the journey becomes the destination
Sir why the infinite localized itself as mind ?
To experience what it’s like to be finite?
If there is not a thinker, what was Ramana pointing to by saying “Silence the thinker by following it to its source.” I have done this, I know it works. Silence is instantly available by locking attention on the thinker. Just saying ;)

All to analytical if u ask me.. complex way of actually leading one nowhere. How does this now stop you from feeling separate ?

🙏🙏🙏
The opposite of love isn't hate. It is indifference.
Whatever...
No one said that hate was the opposite of love!
Why would infinite mind or being want to localize itself on this planet? Or localize itself at all? Does it localize itself in all creatures? Like ants?
💐🙏
⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
Why does awareness chose to localize itself
To experience itself from a different perspective and in turn learn more about itself
Basically thought talking about though in other hand observer is observed as j.krishnamurthy says , but who observing what? Both are same ,both are thoughts thought observing thought and it's has to b happen same time!
👍
Unbelievable, 2022 and still 10% of the people watching ( not truly watching, listening or understanding universal Truth(s), clearly ) are yet so unaware, unconscious.
Yet, after all this time, the sun never says to the moon "You owe me!"
Look what happens with a love like that.. It lights up the entire sky!
Human ignorance and arrogance, based on faulty ego-based/body-mind identification certainly is the parasite on and in relation to the life on/in this planet.

This video is so helpful, but I have a doubt, pure Awareness being wisdom, why localised itself as a finite self knowing that the price to pay is is an illusion of séparation which results in suffering ?
You might have a point here!
Pure awareness never suffers only the apparent individuals suffer. It’s like asking why do we dream knowing that we are likely going to suffer in the dream? I don’t suffer in the dream. It’s only the dream character that suffers.
it's strange why these people think Rupert SPira has all the answers. He's not God and he's not all knowing. He's only speculating.
No matter what this guy tries to say, he is there sitting in his chair thinking.
Why would that be a good thing?
ARE you cognizant of BEING cognizant 😄
"veils", not "fails"
I just answered my own question...says the questioner.....😅😅
I reject the idea that there is a no conscious self or a conscious thinker because it goes against all experience. Each person certainly does have a very real conscious self with a will and everything. For this guy to make this video and willfully express his opinion that there is no conscious thinker he literally has to consciously think and willfully make the video. This is self-defeating and flies in the face of everyone's experience. Make no mistake God gave you a very real soul or self.
Define God that gave you a soul.
There’s only 1
There is obiously me
I understand nothing
This is CUTE prestigititation, but the suffering still suffer AF, the chronically miserably ill can never F meditate and we all end up in the ash bin. BFD. Chairs on tha F Titanic anyone?????
Ego is. edging God. Out
