    I own an Interceptor 650 and absolutely love it. But to your point about quality, I took a look at my local dealer's first Super Meteor last week, and the fit and finish is in a completely different zip code. If the Super Meteor is a sign of things to come for RE, the sky is the limit for them.

    THIS is what it takes to get more people on motorcycles, not more HP, not more cutting edge technology, not another reason to to charge 20k+ for a motorcycle. None of those things make a bike "practical," so none of those things are going to make motorcycling attractive to someone who doesn't ride. Make bikes that are affordable and reliable, and then someone can justify putting one in their driveway.

      @@matt59fire Congratulations on the bike. There are youtubers based in Texas like yammie noob who have said that RE gave them a lot of looks.
      I think the reason why the Super Meteor might be an exception to receiving the same attention is because cruisers are rather normal in the US.
      Other bikes from RE look genuinely old school, hence people come and ask about them.
      I've heard only great things about the Super Meteor though, People say the rear shock isn't the best.

    Triumph quality? My Triumph Tiger 800XC was so bad that I doubt I'll own another Euro bike. Mine suffered from flaking frame paint, soft wheel powder coat and excessive fading of small anodized parts. Then there was the numerous mechanical failures and "known issues". Top it all off with a dealer that didn't care and a manufacturer that doesn't want to honor warranties.

    I went to a dealer for rear brake pads for my INT650 and would have come out with a new Super Meteor 650 Tour in Celestial Blue if it was belt drive. I am a serious cruiser and if you look at their owner's and service manual they have you stopping to clean, lube and adjust the chain every 500km/310mi. Yesterday I did 400mi (Dallas TX to Harrison AR KOA) and I would have had to stop and service the chain during my ride. Chains are good for dirt bikes or weekend riders but not for people who want to do some serious cruising. I converted my INT650 to belt drive and haven't had to touch it for 29,000 now. Just did my 45,000 mile service. A true cruiser must be belt drive. Royal Enfield hit every other bullet point on this bike. It's amazing! Great review. You helped to make up my mind to get one, probably by year's end, and an after market belt drive conversion.

    Don't be fooled, What is not covered are dealers adding to the cost by bumping up prices and additional fees to the purchase.
    Over 700.00 to take a bike out of the box that is put together is outrageous. They nickel and dime you to the full extent.
    That 7000.00 bike if they are selling them at that price, can balloon to well over10.000.
    many are waking up and realizing this. The downfall for RE is not the bike and quality, but but could be greedy dealers.

Factor in the total cost of ownership including purchase (+ fees, taxes), accessories, maintenance, licensing, fuel consumption and the invisible biggie, depreciation, and it’s hard to argue buying a new bike is “cheap.” If frugality is a significant variable - buy something preowned.

    One area where Royal Enfield did pick the cheap solution is the final drive, a chain. These days cruisers are just about the only category of motorcycles left, where you still have alternatives to chain drive, and to me both belt and shaft drive are superior to a dirty chain.

    • @UncleWally3
      @UncleWally3 7 місяців тому +2

      The shaft on my BMW RT gave out, so I got to see what expensive looks like. That said, I do wonder why chains aren’t enclosed and why belts aren’t on more tarmac oriented bikes.

    • @jlrutube1312
      @jlrutube1312 7 місяців тому +8

      One good thing about chains however is that if the gearing isn't quite what you want because maybe on the freeway you are running at higher rpms than you would like, you can just change out one of the sprockets to a sprocket with one or two more teeth or less teeth, depending on whether you want higher or lower gearing, and you will likely get the gearing you wanted. I have done that to two different bikes I owned in the past and absolutely loved the results. The bike I have now is geared a little low for my tastes but because it is shaft drive I am absolutely stuck with the gearing the manufacturer wanted me to have instead of the gearing I wanted.

    • @olethorhermansen5696
      @olethorhermansen5696 7 місяців тому

      @@jlrutube1312 That's a valid point. You would still have the option to alter the gearing with belt drive, but motorcycle manufacturers seem to fear that Harley-Davidson and Indian will have them shot, if they ever try putting a belt on one of their bikes.

    • @simonlangmead7
      @simonlangmead7 7 місяців тому +2

      I agree, on a new chain bike, over 85% of the maintenance is the chain. Go belt or shaft, and the ownership experience is a whole lot better. One commented on his BMW shaft drive failing, well, that’s what happens when you have a BMW. Not a single Japanese bike maker, category of bike, or model year has shown to have a drive shaft problem.
      Another mentioned changing sprockets to alter gear ratio is a benefit. What percentage of riders who buy a new chain driven bike, change their sprockets for any other reason then when they’re worn out? Well under 5%. If the engineers got it right, it’s not necessary.
      Chains are a messy pig, that eats your wallet and time better spent riding. Aerosol cans of chain lube at $30 a pop on Amazon, chain clean, grunge brushes, paper towel to wipe your hands etc, been there done that. I wouldn’t want chain drive on my car, so why would I like it on my bike.
      People that defend chain, are just used to it. It’s no measure of freedom, adjusting yourself to an inferior situation, that being a motorcycle chain maintenance slave in time and money.

      @@adityan3208 it says "are cheap cruisers any good?" So either we are talking about "cheap cruisers", which avenger totally is, or the title is bs. No third option here🤷‍♂️

      @@occasionalmotorcycling bro what are you not getting? The video is about the American market and this is their cheap cruiser. Who are you to tell them what's cheap for them?
      And I can't believe you don't know at this point in time that youtube titles are mostly made for maximum clicks, nobody cares.
      There is a third option, it is to become a little reasonable and understand the context of the situation instead of making it all about your point of view.
