Perfect opening, and ending! 😂
Haha glad you liked it 🤣🤣🤣
We had a couple of kids turn up to races with Wild Willy's back in the day. They caused carnage as you can imagine, they were mostly out of control. Parents who were there watching the racing were literally crying with laughter.
Yeah I can imagine that was great fun Matt 🤩👊🏻
One of the most fun kits from my childhood thanks for another great video!!!
Thank you for watching my friend 😊😊😊
I fell in love with tamiya when i first saw the Blackfoot then the lunchbox and more, tamiya introduced me to those big wheeled rc models
That’s awesome Gilbert and yes the Blackfoot is 😍😍😍
Without question the best man made object ever produced! Tamiya's Wild Willy M38
Lol😁 what a comical start for a comical legendary Tamiya😁. I think everyone wanted one of these as a kid as they just looked so much fun and so different, amazing to see Tamiya do something so different from the norm back then, and who would of thought that now those kids are all grown up so many of them still love to play with there Willy's 🤣🤣. Loved the vid as always 👍👍
Fantastic thanks Wayne 🤩👊🏻
The ending is even better 😂
@@peteuncle2935 I laughed so much 🤣🤣 so many funny comments as well 🤣 absolutely brilliant vid 👍👍
Looks well cool and you can never get to many Willy jokes
Lol 🤣🤣🤣
Yes. I had to take apart the gearbox to add bearings. Enjoyed building and detailing the Willy. Great video me friend!
Excellent thanks for watching and leaving a comment my friend 😊👊🏻
Great memories of Wild Willy, -my best mate in '81 got his WW the same xmas I got my Rough Rider-
I remember us two driving them amongst the mag wheeled direct drive BMX's of the other lads in our cul-de-sac, awesome '80's memories!
Oh, to get back to those Simpler times :)
Fantastic Ben, it’s all about the memories and nostalgia my friend 🤩🤩🤩
Whew…I’m sure glad that was the Willy you wanted to show us! 😂
Pmsl Kyle 🤣🤣🤣
One of the most fun Tamiyas! I have several of them.
Fantastic thanks for leaving a comment my friend 😊👊🏻
And the closer!
I had one of these around 2001 or so - loved it so much fun to drive - you can’t not smile watching it go 😊
Sounds very similar to how I think of the Lunchbox my friend 😍
Can’t wait to see this build! And of course the paint detail 👌
The first RC car I remember seeing was a Tamiya Wild Willy, on Saturday Swap Shop many, many years ago, and that's what made me want and RC car. I've always liked the Wild Willy, it's certainly different, and I can't wait to see how yours ends up. Awesome video as always mate!!
Omg swap shop 😍😍😍
Now that’s a blast from the past 😊
Well, i thought the start of the video was funny..
But the ending was even better!
My Friday night just got better with Glenn talking about his willy 😂
Haha glad you enjoyed it Pete 😊👊🏻
Jesus Glenn. I thought I was on the wrong channel with that opening.🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰
Alan 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the Giggle Glenn - awesome to see so many kits up on the board ready for Building i can see your not going to have much spare time with all these builds coming up but gee what a way to spoil us diehard fans who love each and every video you post its just superb and as for the Wild Willy 2 im sure it will be a blast to drive as was the Lunchbox which i cant stop driving - soooo much fun feel like a child once again and im sure willy will be just as amusing and a blast to drive , massive thanks for another great video budd :-)
Looking forward to this one. It’s funny as a kid I had no interest in the Wild Willy but now I have an original in my collection and I absolutely love it.
Nice one Glenn this will be a great fun build awesome 😎 fun 🤩
Yeah I’m looking forward to it 😎
Hopefully you can hear me amongst the ladies screams of delight. I don't own this kit but I really like it. The body is a lot of work I hear. The sort of thing that would take me ages plus I would want to put working headlights in it. Such a cool looking RC.
Fantastic yeah I can imagine that body set is going to take me awhile but It’ll be fun my friend 🤩
I've had mine 22 years and I still haven't finished it 😋
It's brilliant fun to drive, especially on an open beach with some sand ramps. Watch out for the small holes in the gearbox at the ends of the axles - water will get in if you don't seal them. I also fitted a micro servo and small universal joint inside Willy's body to move his head when steering. There's enough room in the body for this without hacking any material away. I'd recommend glueing the rear tyres as mine started slipping on jumps.
Fantastic information Mal 🤩👊🏻
thanks for taking the time to look at my willy sounds like something you say to your doctor lol =)
Pmsl 🤣🤣🤣
Look forward to the build! The original Willy was my second RC car ever, and my very first Tamiya, SUCH good memories and so very much fun, I ran the first one into the ground, then my Dad bought me a new kit and that was my first full build at 12 years old, and I STILL have it, working now to restore and bought the repro tires, if you can ever get a hold of an original Willy it is SUCH a unique RC experience. Cheers man, love the channel! Thank you.
ua-cam.com/video/ET3Reopobe4/v-deo.html
Fantastic memories and nostalgia Lee 😊😊😊
never in my life have i ever expected Glen to say "I want to show you me Willy!"
🤣🤣🤣
Kit is simply 10/10.
We all say its bigger!😉
Iol my wife was listening and her eyes popped out!!
Love the colour choice Glenn and theme! You will have to get a mini surfboard too😉👍
Haha my apologies to the wife my friend 🤣🤣🤣
@@TAMIYALegends Haha brilliant stuff!😉👍
Hi Glen just watching your video on wild willy 2 just built one myself it's a great thing to build and is a great bit of kit really fun to build and paint it will put a smile on your face trust me....
Fantastic thanks Michael 🤩👊🏻
I had the original way back, so much fun with it.
That’s awesome David 😎👊🏻
Well that’s one way to get de monetised 🤣 loved this car 👍
Lol 😂
Just a bit of fun 😅
I have 2 Willys! :) Got some driver figure painted too (by someone who can paint) Going to build one stock and HOP the other. Also got a couple of the ReRe Willy's Wheeler that I am going to do the same. Too many kits, again(!) and not enough time! Great video Glenn!
Thanks Gareth 😎👊🏻
Great video. I have an original from when I was a kid and bought the Wild Willy 2 when they first came out. Mine came with a old 3 step mechanical speed controller. I just picked up another one a few months ago.
Can't friking wait...👍🇬🇧😎
Thanks Mark 😎👊🏻
Great fun Glen.. simple as that.. the wild Willy was very popular on our estate back in the day!!. I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do with this one👍👍👍
Excellent thanks Darren 🤩👊🏻
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 best opening line ever 🤣🤣👍
😂😂😂 So many Willy puns. They could go for days. A guy could make a full video of just Willy jokes. Can’t wait to see your orange Willy flopping around on a beach where the general public can enjoy it as much as your viewers will. Women and children beware. Glenn’s high visibility Willy is on the loose!!
Pmsl 🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic Jason 🥳👊🏻
Hahaha
I recently painted a jeep body in orange. I recommend using a white primer and Tamiya pearl clear over the top the orange. The results are amazing.
Excellent information thank you 😊
I was just taking a drink when "I want to show my Willy!" And I almost spit it all over the room. Thanks. 🤣🤣🤣
Lol 😂 love it Michael 😅👊🏻
All the pun’s 🤣🤣.. Awesome video Glenn 🔥 love the Willy, got one myself 🙄🤔🤣
Lol 😂
Your willy is going to look amazing.I have 2 willys one is box art and my daughter’s we did a Jurassic park jeep. Anything goes it’s your willy.
Lol 😂 Ian
Yeah there’s some absolutely amazing ones on Google 😍
Your Willy is superb! I just landed an original and I feel the same way. So much better then expected. The original had 2 versions. Early version is the short wheelbase. They then changed a couple brackets on the side and the wheelbase was lengthened.
Fantastic Keith yeah I’ve just found that out this morning, I had no idea there were two versions of the original 🤓👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends There is also the Suzuki Jimny body 51495 or the 51475 Vw Type 2 T1 van if you want a different body for this.
Hi Glen, back in the early 80's my two mates who were brothers had the Wild Willy and Willys Wheeler, both a lot of fun but at the time I was an SRB and 4x4 Blazer/Toyota snob and didn't like the new plastic based kits which were nothing like 'scale' replications of cars. Of the two cars my mates had the wild willy was more robust because of the tyre/wheel set that came with it... Until you rolled it then the body would take a hammering, the willys Wheeler was sleeker on smaller tyrres/wheels but seemed a lot quicker being more road orientated and handled unfortunate rolls better than the wild willy...both popped wheelies instantly if you went full beans on the throttle.. which after the novelty wore off was a pain because you couldn't steer them whilst the front was up. Can't wait to see yours finished and running... Looking forward to seeing what you do with the body.. And if you go down the Blitzer beetle wheelset route which I think would lower it and make it look awesome though at the expense of a bit of robustness.
Fantastic comment my friend thanks for taking the time to share this with us 🤩👊🏻
Nice supercool😎. I have this myself. Have not done the body yet, but have the camo decals from the FAV re-release so I'm thinking of using them on the Wild Willy 👍
G'day Glenn mate howzitgowin yeah when I was really young I use to dream of a wildwilly and then I ended up with a Grasshopper lol. Yeah can't wait to see your build video's and maybe a carpark bash or something. Good stuff mate 👍
Thanks Lionel 😎👊🏻
Glenn, I've installed the reproduction original tires on mine. After some searching, I found that they fit nicely on Turbo Optima rims drilled out to fit Tamiya axles.
Looks great on the shelf, but too narrow and tippy for serious driving.... or whatever driving one does with a WR-02.
Thanks again for the entertaining content!
Looks like a fun one. Can’t wait to see it built.
Thanks buddy 😊👊🏻
That intro 😄😄😄!!!
Haha it seems to have gone down well 😅👊🏻
You have to add lights to that body if you can, that would look so cool with all that detail..
Its strange mate you have got me into the buggies and rally cars over the years and now I see more of this sort of tamiya on you channel that I used to be really into.. Tamiya really does makes something for everyone
Oh they certainly do Adrian 🤩. And as I said in the video it’s funny how something that didn’t interest us in the past, now becomes a priority to get lol 😂
@@TAMIYALegends I would think we could add the Tamiya Audi Quattro Rally and Opel Ascona 400 Rally into this groupe as I think they basically had the ww1 chassis
HAHAHAHA Best start to a Vid. Ever!!!!!!!!! Happy days mate!
Haha I’m glad you enjoyed it my friend 😅👊🏻
nice orange ally hop ups
Oh yeah that could be a thing 🤩
Fun trucks! I think you will have a blast with it! I did a red and yellow one that looked awesome so orange should look neat!
Fantastic thanks Steve 😎👊🏻
A really nice Willy you have 😂 Builded mine a few month ago. This project really pushed me to my limits. The bodywork is more like a static model than like a rc car. Filling the gas can, painting the NOS bottle, filling and painting the extinguisher, painting the dashboard, painting the body different to the seat and the wheel arc, and by then I hadn't even started the driver figure. There are really a lot of traps while building the body, I highly recommend to read the manuel twice before you glue. Over all I started building a runner and finally came out with a blingbling shelf queen. Anyway, Ive done mine in silver with slightly modified decals and I am fine with it. Nice car. P.S. Yes please change the bushings in the gearbox to metal bearings. It makes a lot of sense because you can add the missing grease it in one go.
Wow, cool kit brother
Yeah it definitely does have the cool factor my friend 😎👊🏻
My cousin had the original willy, he drove it into a wall within the first minute and bust it into bits!
Oh noooooo 🤕🤕🤕
It wasn't my guess from your post yesterday but it's cool to see a wild willy2. They aren't my cup of tea really, neither is the lunchbox but I do appreciate how iconic they are and why people love them. They do look very cool. If I had to choose a classic truck from tamiya then I'd have the King Cab any day.
KingCab 😍😍😍
Well I’ve got the next best thing coming soon Neil, the Monster Racer 😊😊😊
@@TAMIYALegends NICE!!!
And what a wild willy it is 2
Lol love it 😂👊🏻
It's a sickness, once you start playing with your Willy you'll want more.
The only parts they have in common are the driver tree and the tailgate tree. The rollbar, grill tree and main body have been modified for WW2. 58035 is modeled after the M38 were as the 58242 is a M151 MUTT (kind of). Side note, Tamiya has a MUTT in their collection in Shizuoka.
Willy can do anything. I'm biased but the both Willy series are the best all-round vehicles Tamiya has made. Marketed as "versatile stunt vehicle" the first one were off-roaders, on- roaders and Tamiya's first rally cars. Wild Willy was also Tamiya's first ABS tub chassis, everything before it was fiberglass or aluminum. As that, it's a technicalogical milestone. Willy 2 is a parts bin wonder. With the right parts from other cars it can be just about any style of R/C. Perhaps not the best, but Willy can do it.
As others have said, Willy is a blast to drive. It can be a wheelying, tumbling, goofing around giggle machine or a throttle control training vehicle. You said you didn't like Willy's Wheeler. I get that, at first glance it doesn't make much sence. When they were new I didn't think much of it either. Now 40 years later I get it and my Honda City is my second favorite car in my collection. Above the Willy's Wheeler, second only to SWB Wild Willy I got new in 82.
Wow fantastic information my friend, thanks for sharing this with us 🤩👊🏻
Very nice Willy Glenn :)
Why thank you 😊😊👊🏻
@@TAMIYALegends Are you blushing?....
Best...... Intro...... Ever!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
Pmsl 🤣🤣🤣
They are a great car very tough and difficult/rewarding to drive! I was given mine by the Tamiya rep when it first came out and always love taking it out
Btw the instructions tell you not to glue the wheels
Fantastic thanks Neil 😊👊🏻
TS56 Brilliant Orange 👍
Yeah that’s the one Martin 😍
Hi Glenn, looking forward to seeing this done in a beach style. I believe they did a metallic wild Willy 2 edition as well
Oh really didn’t know that Andy 😎🤣
I haven’t decided what scheme to paint mine. I did get the correct paint, but I saw a Simpsons themed one with Homer driving and it got me thinking.
Oh a Simpson’s special 😍
Holy crap...Mine's been gathering dust for 23 years. might have to clean it up and see if it still runs. it's so old it still has a mechanical speed control.
I just picked one of these up from 2003. It was built, run, then put away in its box. I’ll be restoring it soon on the channel. Not sure if I’ll go green or do some custom paint.
Size isn't everything Glenn, it's what you do to upgrade it lol 😂😂👌😎
Willy hop ups 🤣🤣🤣
This was the first Tamiya I saw a picture of somewhere (magazine?), when I was about 8 or 9 and I thought it was the best thing I had ever seen! I wanted one badly for a couple of years, I think it was because of the huge (scale) wheels and the driver looked so cool. When are going to build it?!
I still have my original Wild Willy, its not in great shape but its still all there.
Build it! :)
It’s in the queue Tom 😅👊🏻
damnit glenn... i usually say wild willy and it never is, now its wild willy's 2 .......i give up lol :D
Pmsl 😂😂😂
I honestly thought you would get this one 🤣
Wild Willy with Bloodshot Eyes.
Haha thanks Jono 😊
My fav one🥰😍😍😍😍
Fantastic 😊😊😊
I'm like you, never had an interest in this. Now you have the wheels turning in my head. I'm thinking a beat up, weathered light blue. You cost me a lot of money!! Lol
Haha sorry Brian 🤣
You must look into the willies wheeler too Glen, as a kid they never appealed to me either, but they are excellent fun in both original and wr02, even rere/homage is getting hard to get now though.
Yeah I’m sure I’d love it if I got to drive one 😎👊🏻
There is some small changes to the body, but just some more details on the sides and on the hood. the grill is also molded in the front instead of a separate one.
So, Glenn, the gearbox is the same as the ones in the 4x4 monster trucks of the same era, but they had 2. i.e. - Wild Dagger & Twin Detonator that you built a few years ago.
Oh excellent I didn’t know that Nick, cheers buddy 😎👊🏻
Cough (Clod Buster Wheels) .
Haha could you imagine that 🤩👊🏻
Tamiya 84334 WR-02 F Parts (Orange), (WR02/Wild Willy 2/Jimny/VW Type 2), NIP ebay
Cool I’ll have a look 😎👊🏻
I received mine yesterday, ansious to build it
That’s fantastic 😊
Bright orange with bright green or yellow flowers are very 60s and 70s sand buggy.
Oh I like that idea 😍
My Wild Willy has a chrome helmet (the ladies love it)
Pmsl 🤣🤣🤣
Hi Glenn. How about a second one on a GF-01 😋😋😋🥰🥰🥰
Haha maybe in the future 😅
The Willie jeep was never a big vehicle it was small. The ones from world war II and somewhat onward.
I remember seeing the original Wild Willy running in the 1980's and thinking how ridiculous they were. They were always overturning and rather poor off-road compared with the other Tamiya special racing buggies around at the time. However, many decades later, I can now better appreciate the design and think it would make an interesting addition to a RC vehicle collection.
The first wild Willy 2 are made in Japan
Then they started making them in the Philippines
Great information my friend 😊👊🏻
I was just wondering what is a good budget RC servo and what KG ?
Oh I’m the wrong person to ask 😂
I use any old thing I have to hand 😅
You're going to have to add ball bearings to the gearbox so the assembled gearbox has to come apart so you can put them in there what a pain.
Yeah spot on full bearings going in 😅👊🏻
🤔 One of the few times I don't mind seeing another man's Willy........ That pre-built gearbox is exactly the same part as the comicals', and the same part as all the WR-01 4WDs and WT-01 2WD monster trucks like the Wild Dagger and Blackfoot Extreme respectively. For runners needs bearings and steel pinion(s) 👍
Top information Lee thanks buddy 😎👊🏻
It says the transmission is pre assembled, top right of box.
Haha thanks for pointing that out 🤓👊🏻
Shapeways has a jerry can back insert. Looks more "finished" than a flat plate.
Excellent I’ll have a look 😎👊🏻
I’ve just a clip of the intro to use as a meme 😂
Pmsl 🤣🤣🤣
Too bad you couldn't get to that auction cuz one had the original wild Willy new in box.
Yeah I’m not that fussed about the original tbh 😅
Oh dear 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Haha 😂😂😂
Mate...I have had this car since 2000, It has been one of the best car's ever, still going to this day. Mine even came with the mechanical speedy .The body is pretty stuffed now as my son's all used it as a training car. it can take a lot, but the body will eventually show signs. It is a great vehicle and i'm sure you will love it.
I also did mine a different colour, hopefully this a link to a short vid of it running. ua-cam.com/video/oLwh0rW6Cko/v-deo.html
Fantastic thanks for the link 😎
Please don't....oh 😂
Please don't go with bushings lol
Full bearings 😅😅😅
i added the link to the shop for the ally parts on the facebook group... this won't add it, keeps deleting it
No worries I’ll pick it up from there my friend 😎👊🏻
