The angle of the mic and distance are everything! in a sound comparo. Kinda useless otherwise.
I like the FMF Powercore 2 and the gold series fatty pipe to give it that special sound.

My son has the shorty on his 04 65sx. That thing barks like a raped ape & he keeps those RRrrrr’s way up high.
To bad we get the cops called constantly for eidng basically live in a subdivision a block away from the schools. But we are outside city limits.
I don’t think 15-20 minute rip in the field side of our property is a big deal! Especially at 4pm when he gets home from school.

Shorty for ever
When comparising sounds you cannot move the sound source or the mic, or change the engle of the mic or sound source. That will change the sound so much that it oractically renders the comparison worthless.
TC 2 is better for low end power and shorty for mid and high, So shorty for Mx and tc2 or pc2 for enduro

Look at my video of the carb I have the part number for the needle that I think you should try in that bike. I have the 82 in mine with the clip on the top
Can’t actually comment as the shorty you have the video camera on the back end of the can, and on the power core 2 you have it off to the side so how are we suppose to judge a video when the video camera is on different angels each time 🤷♂️

i like turbine core more, I ride more trails and need bottom power. Shorty is good for track and MX riding. I think shorty would be overall slightly faster, but honestly I didn't notice big difference

2 different microphone positions. Same position would have been better
I heard the shorty has no spark arrestor .... it sucks living in so cal , everywhere you go they check for the spark arrestor .

The silencer does not change the performance... Its the expansion chamber that does
The modern ktm 250 2 strokes make a lot of power, but many owners' favorite power mods (including mine) is a new silencer for this bike. It really changes how it runs and feels
Tiqo is correct....Silencers don't change jack other than the tone, hate to say it, your ears are what's fooling you. Go plug your bike up to a dyno. Power mods are mainly result of head modification and better jetting....People put a different header pipe (Fatty or a Gnarly) on to change the power delivery. The Factory Fatty with the shorty is a nice combo for the 150 and/or 250 for better power delivery, not power gain. The gnarly for bottom end, but you're robbing peter to pay paul, so you'll lose a little on the top end.
Uncorrect, the silencer change the power delivery because with it you can change the total lenght of the exhaust system

Shorty's kill top end & over rev. Although I have a dyno, a butt dyno (that everyone has) can easily reveal this.

+Maksymilian Kaleta personally I find shorty bit louder, the sound is sharper and makes more noise i think. As for the performance I haven't notice big difference, but theoretically shorty should be slightly ahead.

Shorty will be ahead in terms of TOP end, The turbine core, from my knowledge, well any full sized exhaust will help more on the bottom end

Michael MacDonald short silencer's give you more bottom end power. While longer silencers will give you more mid to top end power with more over rev but with a loss of bottom end snap. FYI

Dirt N Iron so to cut my long tailpipe shorter won't really give my bike more bottom end? As others suggest.
you would get better performance out of shorty, if you dont care about spark arrestor and stay mostly on the track then probably shorty is a way to go. I ride a lot of national forest so I wanted to get spark arrested silencer, I didnt really lose a lot of bottom end. I rejeted my carb few moths ago and it made a lot of difference so even with long pipe I still have more bottom end than i had before with shorty.

@@dirtniron Howdy, just to let you know: I did your exact build that you did on your KTM 250sx, but I did a 200exc. Only difference is that I used a set of 2019 Alta AER48s and a rear PDS shock assembly from a 2008 250sx (apparently that year had the best shock body, housing, needle, and internals. So that is why I used it)
if anything the shorty sounds quieter
