    you guys are awesome ... My Delonghi 3300 issue was fixed with your video on the flow meter. The Factory authorized tech here where I live could not find the fault twice when I took it in for repair. The first was under warranty the second I had to pay out of my nose for that and it still failed on the second day .... Thanks !!!

    What if your machine does NOT have a solenoid valve? Should you still backflush? For example with the gaggia classic 2015

    What is your thought about what La Marzocco says about descaling: "You should never descale a machine. Just use a clean filtered water. Usually when people start to descale it's the end of the machine as particles will come loose and clog up the machine" ?

      +Stefan Sigfinnsson For a La Marzocco machine, absolutely. Rocket echoes this position on descaling. But as we mentioned, following each manufactures instructions is best.

    I have an Expobar Brutus IV and I recently changed my pump. After installing, I restarted the machine and water is pouring out of the PRV on the top on the boiler.
    Does this mean I need to replace the valve also? or is there something else i need to do?

    Thanks for the video. If I only use distilled water, do I still need to descale?

    I'm fairly certain my delonghi dedica doesn't have a 3 way solenoid. is there another way to clean the coffee oils?

      +Thomas V-P You can always soak your portafilter in cafiza and rub the group head down with a rag :D

    I have a Breville BES870XL, and their instructions are to backflush when the machine says "clean me" (I've never understood how often that is, but I assume there is some internal counting mechanism and the machine knows how many shots I've pulled). I use my machine to make about 14 coffees a week (2 per day). For a home espresso brewer like myself, would you still recommend backflushing every week, or should I just continue to mindlessly follow the Breville "clean me" light like a Pavlovian dog. I will say, I can sort of taste a difference in the shot when my machine is due for a backflush, and I also notice a difference in how my pressure gauge responds to my grind and dose changes, and then usually a week later the "clean me" light will go on, I backflush and everything goes back to "baseline".
    Additionally, Breville recommends the 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water solution for descaling. Any thoughts on risks and benefits of staying with the manufacturers recommendations on that, or making the switch to a descaling solution?
    Any help is appreciated, I love hearing from the experts at SCG!

      +Saxman11290 If you are tasting off notes just before a clean cycle, go ahead and backflush. No harm there. There is an internal counter, but you will know best when the machine needs a cleaning. We'd recommend sticking with Breville's instructions for descaling, we always say, they built the machine-they'd probably know best :D

      +Seattle Coffee Gear thanks so much for the reply! You guys save me hours of digging through forums for people who "might" have the right answer and the experience to back it up.

    Should you back flush all types of espresso machines? I have a Saeco Aroma and the instruction manual talks about descaling but not back flushing. Thanks!

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 років тому

      +Kim You will only backflush machines with a three-way solenoid valve. Your machine does not have one, so you will not be able to backflush. Cleaning your group head every so often will be a good way to keep your machine in tip top shape. When the time comes, this video will be helpful as well: ua-cam.com/video/2YIi3WJYtsI/v-deo.html Cheers!

      +Seattle Coffee Gear Thanks! What kind of routine maintenance would you suggest for the portafilter for the Aroma? Anything to get the coffee oils out? I feel like a couple times recently we've had some weak pulls with no crema....we rinse the portafilter and the filter with water and wipe off the brew head really well and that seems to fix it. Does the portafilter ever require further cleaning? We just got the machine in Dec '15 at your Bellevue store! Wondering if it's possible something got stuck somewhere after doing our first descaling last month as it started happening after that. Thanks!!!

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  8 років тому

      +Kim Here is a helpful trick, take your portafilter basket and put it up to a light source. You should be able to see through every hole. If not, soak the basket in some Cafiza for a couple hours, that will clean it out no problem! (www.seattlecoffeegear.com/cafiza-espresso-machine-cleaner-powder-20-oz) The crema issue could be more related to your coffee. If your coffee is not as fresh as it used to be, you will see a reduction in crema (even a couple of days can make a difference) Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/eqCPO-hs8Lg/v-deo.html :D

    How about if we use mineral water instead of tap water? Does that going to prolong the life of the machine?

    My breville makes a grinding noise when making coffee. Is that a backflush or a a descaling issue.

    That's it! Well how do you go about back flushing the coffee head and basket, without getting detergent in the boiler?🙄
